  1. Surely the should have halted the game until the banner was taken down and called it off altogether if it was re displayed.

Hear! Hear! And why didn’t Sven Goran Erikson pull all his players off the pitch in response to the monkey noises made towards his black players during an England v. Spain international a few years ago? When the decent majority of fans get fed up of a boneheaded minority ruining the game for everybody else then maybe they will start shopping those morons.

It would be interesting to know what exactly the banner displayed.

Shouldn’t the police have been called and charges pressed?

Not exactly nice. Three years is not a second too much.

Wow. I’m actually stunned by the level of hate and nastiness that can surround European football in 2012. I would argue that America is by far more homophobic and violent than any western European country but we have had nowhere near the level of violence and hate associated with ANY American sport. If truth be told I think that Europeans may just be better at hiding their hate than Americans and football hooligans just publicly display the hatefulness and nastiness that lies just below the surface of polite society.

It is amazing that we never hear of such bad stories regarding Major League American football, baseball, ice hockey or basketball matches.
