  1. Good for them!

  2. Jock S. Trap 29 Mar 2012, 2:13pm

    Good luck to them!! :)

  3. I’m sorry, he’s too old to be having children, it’s regrettable that he couldn’t have had one earlier in his life but at 65 he’s too old. (The same applies to straight men like David Jason).

Plus Oscars parties are no place for babies

I think he’d be a more appropriate foster carer. Harsh but true.

    1. Harsh anyway!

    2. Tosh. So long as you are producing sperm, and you have the desire to bring one up, you’re never too old to father a child.

Er right. Men can produce sperm well into their 70s- just ask Sir Ian McKellan (vom) or Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends (double vom). So would you think fathering a kid at that age is a good decision?

        1. Well plenty of dads that age in the bible. Of course it helps to have a younger partner.

          1. drunk as a... 29 Mar 2012, 6:30pm

Oh yes the Bible, that fount of all things honest and truthful.

      2. The ability to merely produce sperm is not what I’d consider the mark of a good father. I bet there’s an awful lot of good father’s who can’t produce sperm properly.

        1. True, but a different point altogether. The point is, biologically, men have evolved to be able to father children at quite an old age, if they are so inclined. To judge them negatively for doing so is no better than judging someone for being gay. Older men having young wives was quite common in previous centuries.

The idea that older men shouldn’t have children is a modern cultural development.

          1. No moralising about something that has no adversarial effect on anyone else and increases the sum of human happiness is not the same as moralising against someone who wishes to fill an emotional desire/ need without taking into account the fact he or she is likely to be incapable of keeping the their half of the bargain/ relationship, ie. being able to be a good parent and raise the child.

Centuries ago men shagged about, got their wives up the duff and then told them it was their job to raise them, that doesn’t make it right.

          2. I don’t necessarily agree that having the biological capability to produce children is the litmus test on the appropriateness of becoming a parent. There are many 12 year old girls who can become pregnant, but we don’t encourage that. Human beings are more than a harvesting species who’s only purpose in life is to procreate, and evolution/nature did not take into account the psychological needs/welfar of a child – we invented that ourselves.

Your reasoning aside, I’ve never disagreed with him having a child at his age. It would seem to me the only objections are 1) his age, more specifically the likelihood of his death in the child’s youth, and 2) how the child will stand out with such an old father.

Firstly, children’s parents die all the time (one or both) and grow up to be perfectly healthy, well rounded human beings. Secondly, (s)he’s going to stand out for being Elton John’s child – that’s where the millions and millions of pounds help out. Or should we castrate celebrities?

          3. @Chris – no the problem is not just the chance that he will die early in the child’s life but that he won’t have the constitution in old age to adequately raise a child, palming the job off on nannies is not an appropriate solution.

I also love how some people will defend all things gay on here no matter the circumstance. Just because we must “protect our own” – not when they’re acting inappropriately we shouldn’t that just leads to heteros thinking we challenge all societal norms.

Whatevs. Elton John is a despicable person. He’s been banging on about being bullied as an adult but anyone who sat thru’ Tantrums and Tiaras can see he’s got the traits of a bully himself. Likewise how he and his partner use Facebook to make derogatory comments about Madonna and her employees cements the idea he’s a bully.

    1. Even divas can be good parents. Since when do you or the State have the right to vet parenthood?

      1. drunk as a... 29 Mar 2012, 4:15pm

I’m not vetting him but the odds on Elton John’s kids growing up to be ‘nice’ people are pretty slim considering how Elton and David conduct themselves in public when a mic is shoved in their faces.

        1. I expect they’ll be nicer than you dear. And I doubt you’re the product of a celebrity home.

          1. drunk as a... 29 Mar 2012, 6:32pm

Zzzzzzzzzzz. Is there a benefit to coming from a celebrity home? I can’t tell by the tone of your writing though I am getting a whiff of stupidy from you.

          2. This is the Internet, you are alone, so any smell can only be from yourself sweetie.

    2. That’s ridiculous. HE never said anything on Facebook or anywhere else on the internet, as he never ever uses computers. And his partner made a comment on his FB profile which is set private. A comment. NO bullying. So bullying more comes from people like you making false statements about them. But I take it you were drunk as a… when you wrote this.

    3. Elton John is a generous, caring person. To describe him as “despicable” is simply complete ignorance on your part.

  5. So will the BBC be giving wife beater Stephen Green of Christian Voice a spot to air his extremist and fanatical homophobic opinions again like they did the previous time Elton and David announced they were going to be Dads?

    1. Let’s ask Pink News commentator – the racist extremist Michael Lucas what he thinks?

    2. Maybe this time they will ask the new Vatican Spin machine Homophobic Voices.

  6. “The couple recently spoke about fears their son will be bullied for having gay parents when he is older.”

And yet they have no problem with selling pictures of their baby for cash.

I hope their children grow up to have some principles.

Because Elton John is a despicable example of a man so motivated by greed that he was willing to perform shows in Apartheid era South Africa, and who is willing to whore himself out as the wedding singer to homophobic exfremist Rush Limbaugh.

    1. Tosh. He simply believes in constructive engagement, and he got RL to endorse Civil Unions, a major concession from that extremist. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Anyway nothing to do with parenting; it’s clear it’s a very loving and supportive family, they are very lucky kids.

      1. drunk as a... 29 Mar 2012, 4:16pm

Pfft A N are you the defender of the Elton industry? He has more detractors than supporters and it has nowt to do with his sexuality and everything to do with his personality. The guy is a walking bag of bile.

        1. No, I just find you repulsive.

          1. drunk as a... 29 Mar 2012, 6:35pm

I don’t know you either yet I feel you’re an individual who is a bit ‘academically’ challenged. Never mind mate the Special Olympics are just round the corner and you’re a shoo in for a bronze medal in something or other.

    2. Yes. Once. The cash went into the Elton John Aids Foundation. Completely. Just like the money he got from Rush Limbaugh. I wish, only one of you he’s-so-despicable-cryers would once get informed before talking trash about this man. Him saying “I’m rather building bridges than walls” somehow makes him a lot more sympathetic than you guys. Sorry.

  7. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Mar 2012, 6:03pm

Why is this newsworthy? Who cares about Elton John adding another child to his family? What is so special about him to warrant a futile column on PN? Why isn’t he speaking out for equal marriage?

    1. He has done, in California.

  8. Taking time out from beating your wife to abuse gay people are you?

    1. Havn’t you worked out this troll is dAVID/ drunk as… yet?

  9. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Mar 2012, 7:34pm

The only heinous crime against morality and your damned god is that idiots like you were even born. Your perverted user name speaks volumes. What are you doing trolling a gay site for? Prurient interest perhaps? What is it like in that dark and oppressive closet of yours? Get back to the cave from whence you came, neanderthal. You sound like that other religious nutter Keith or Buz, probably one and the same, pathetic pieces of human detritus that you are. Your mentally ill.

  10. “Sir Elton, 65, and Furnish, 49, say they both “contributed” to the process and do not know which of them is the biological father – nor do they intend to find out.”

They will find out sooner or later, won’t they?! Then what?!

If you ask me: there are thousands of neglected, abandoned (don’t know which word is correct in this context …) children on this planet already – why not adopting one of them – instead of reproducing?!

Ohhh, right, gay people are no better than straight – they want their own children, not someone elses who doesn’t have “their blood” …

    1. Adopt a child? Like HIV-positive Lev in the Ukraine, who they wanted to adopt, but weren’t allowed because the Ukraine isn’t accepting gay partnerships? Elton still cares and pays for the little boy, and is still heartbroken that he wasn’t allowed to become his father. Maybe that’s a fact you should consider before attacking.

    2. Hyun — I know! Why don’t YOU adopt a child and leave Elton and David to their own business!

  11. Siriussols 30 Apr 2012, 7:44pm

I would like to say them good luck for future.I hope they will prove themselves good parents.
