Hope it works out. However, given the sort of fanfare given to the Pope last year, I won’t be surprised if it gets roadblocked.

  2. Similarly I’ll be surprised if this gets through. The government of Malta is very much under The Vatican’s jackboot. However, I’m glad they are at least publicly proposing it and opening up the debate, and wish them luck.

  3. Malta is bound to lag behind a bit on social justice issues, but the time is right for this.

If they want to be part of Europe they need to embrace equality and human rights. This is a move in the right direction.

They have only recently legalised divorces (some few centuries after most of Europe) but it looks like the Maltese are quickly catching up :)

Labour plans to introduce civil unions upon winning government. The conservative government’s plans to introduce civil unions is merely an attempt to draw some voters away from Labour. The devil is in the detail and we will see what will happen. Clearly Labour has been setting the agenda here as it did with divorce. The PN, after all, is the party of the church. They are a cynical bunch, two of its leading members well known for their homosexuality as the party voted against decriminalisation in 1973.
