Ahead of the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival starting later this month, PinkNews.co.uk brings you an exclusive first look at the trailer for feature film Stud Life.

From award-winning film-maker CampbellX, Stud Life is the only new UK feature film at the BFI festival and aims to examine unseen gay urban life in Britain and its interplay with black street culture.

The film’s style pays homage to Spike Lee’s ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ and the self-documenting style of Steven Soderbergh’s Sex, Lies and Videotape.

JJ, played by T’Nia Miller, is a wedding photographer who has a close relationship with her best friend, a white gay man called Seb, played by Kyle Treslove.

When JJ falls in love with the beautiful Elle, Robyn Kerr, she must choose between her new lover and old friend.

The film’s tag line reads: “Who did you wake up with today? Your lover or your best friend?”

CampbellX’s directorial début was produced by Stella Nwimo and co-produced by Nadya Kassam and Lulu Belliveau, and financed through a mixture of private donations and crowd funding.

Nwimo said: “This is a heart-warming feel good urban romance, showing the lives and loves of people not often seen in British cinema.”

CampbellX said: “Nothing prepares you for the obstacles and challenges of making a feature film.

“Hopefully ‘Stud Life’ will entertain as well as demystify some of the stereotypes surrounding the dynamic of Lesbian and Gay relationships and illustrate the often overlooked importance of friendships.”

The BFI’s 26th annual London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival starts on 23 March and runs until 1 April.
