  1. I wish people who open up guest houses, B&Bs and the like would realise that they are not ‘opening up their home’ but running a business and therefore they are subject to allow the laws and provisions of the land, including equality legislation.

  2. Jonathan Wright 12 Mar 2012, 12:59pm

As has been said before: You are not compelled by your religion to open a B&B or Hotel. Its a personal choice to provide a public service which has nothing to do with your faith. Therefore you are only bound by the laws of the country, and if you choose to enforce your privately held beliefs as part of the operation of the company which go against the laws of the county then there is no ground for ‘religious expression’ as a defence.

Yes, go all the way to the ECJ if you want, but you’ll be in exactly the same position you are now and much poorer for it. Accept the truth that society should be secular and that religion is a private act and nobody should expect your views pushed onto them, and maybe then we can all get along better together.

    1. the problem is that the Bull’s are not paying for the defence, the Christian Institute is, if the Bull’s were paying for it they wouldn’t have even taken it to the Court of Appeal due to the cost of it which would have ruined both their business and personal accounts.

      1. They may not be paying for their defense however they are being made to pay for it by the downturn in guests.

      2. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 12 Mar 2012, 5:16pm

        Tee hee!

      3. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 5:26pm

Yep and the Christian institute and it’s supporters should be totally ashamed of themselves for hating humanity so much.

  3. I see the Bulls are being used and manipulated by the Anti-Gay Institute (aka The Christian Institute) again!

    1. Possibly a good way for them to raise funds generally from the Yanks. It must be totally obvious to them they have no case.

    2. Bit like the gay agenda bullying everyone to accept them, or doesn’t that count?

      1. No Aiden, that doesn’t count. The Bulls can think what they like about gay people, as can anyone else for that matter. What they can’t do is allow their business to discriminate against gay people, or members of any other minority for that matter.

        1. Gahhhh. Should have proof read. The sentiment is valid, even if the wording is all over the place.

      2. Where is this gay agenda that Aiden talks about?

        Where does one sign up?

Surely the issue here is that the civil law says you can not discriminate on the grounds of orientation. The court which has tested this says the Bulls did and acted unlawfully in doing so, they appealed and lost. They can continue to do so, and will lose again.

This is about the law, not orientation.

Now, of course Aiden is probably one of these people who want a Christian version of Sharia law which gives special provision and exemptions for people because they are Christians – in other words Aiden doesn’t want democracy – he wants a theocracy.

Well, Aiden, sweetie – this country is not, and never will be a theocracy.

        1. You seem an expert in law, but you are not.

You Stu are part of that Gay Bullying Agenda.

I encourage people to refuse service to homosexuals, but not to give reason, without reason no action can be taken. I would do it myself.

If Mr and Mrs Bull had just said no, then the gay agenda would have lost.

Stop string things Stu, grow up, get a family some kids and be normal.

          1. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 9:29pm

Get a life and stop abusing everyone elses. Loser!

If someone can tell me where I can find this ‘Gay Agenda’ (magazine is it?) please advice.

Prehaps people should refuse to service bigots, the world would soon be a far better place.

As for you last rather homophobic comment, some of us do have ‘kids’ and we all come from family. Your comment shows you up for the pathetic lowlife You truely are.

I have a son, he is mine and guess what loser, I never slept with a woman to have him, all thanks to planned donation. (hoping your heads exploded as probably can’t compute). Thankfully he has grown into a good young man who doesn’t take discriminating bigots like you seriously. Thats because unlike what you’ll ever give he had a good, solid, non discriminating upbringing.

Any child near you should be removed for there own safety.

          2. You Aiden are one of those anti gay militants.

You are one of those people who give Christians a bad name!

          3. I encourage people when they are refused service to enquire why and pursue it further.

The Bulls did explain they were refusing service and precisely why and have been inconsistent in their service in the past. So those who seek to ensure fairness, equal and respect for the law and humanity had a right and a duty to ensure they were brought to justuce.

Oh how its clear you wish they had just kept quiet – they didnt and they are paying the price in being ridiculed and used by the anti gay Institute.,

          4. @Aiden

Perfectly happy being gay. There is NOTHING abnormal in being gay.

Btw I encourage people to refuse to serve bigots and to eject them from their premises when they show signs of bigotry!

If I am stirring things by seeking equality – then I am proud to do so.

    3. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 5:27pm

Think Bull is an apt name considering they come out with so much of it!

  4. factual error by the Bull’s – the European Court of Human rights is in in STRASBOURG (France), its the European Court of Justice that is in Brussels. Im not sure that they could actually argue anything in the convention for protection for human rights anyway.

    1. Would be fun to see them turn up in the wrong town!

    2. ECJ is in Luxembourg. But you’re right about ECHR.

  5. And if the Christian Institute nutters pay for an appeal, my valuable taxpayers money will be wasted on them! This is the same people who don’t think I should get married but expect me to pay the same abount of money as one of their Hetro brothers. THEY MAKE ME SO ANGRY!!!! I suppose the silver lining is that their business has taken a nose dive! YAY!

    1. I expect the Yanks are paying for it.

    2. Perhaps if the CPS had recovered their costs the last time, the Christian Institute would be less likely to mount appeal after appeal while they flog this dead horse

      1. I hope they do seek to recover costs this time if the anti-gay Institute take the case to the Supreme Court or elsewhere …

  6. I get the feeling that this couple is now being used by the CI and others to generate a platform and publicity for reactionary religion in the full knowledge that it is legally pointless and ruinously expensive. In light of the fact that the legal principle is not going to change – you do public business, you obey public rules – I can’t think of another explanation.

    1. Totally, Riondo

They are being used and manipulated by the anti-gay institute

  7. they do do come under the stupid people category – let them take their case and spent/waste money on the case.

You would think the money could be better spent on other Christian issue such as helping the staving

    1. The problem is taxpayers money ends up being spent on opposing their appeal.

The Christian Institute have not got a genuine Christian bone in their organisation. They are really the anti-gay institute. Faith is less important to them than homophobia.

  8. And once again they will be defeated by the simple fact that faith (which can be neither measured nor proven sincere) can grant the individual the right to choose which laws they will and will not follow.

    1. son of a …. I of course mean “cannot”….

  9. This is just more of the Xtian propensity for playing victim. They are not and if they go to the ECJ they will get shot down.

  10. Niki stark Harding 12 Mar 2012, 1:11pm

    So occupancy is 50% down….only 25% left!….

Tbh if the CI are getting my tax anyway, I would rather they blew a massive chunk on an unwinnable case….it lessens their capigning power!!

Until marriage not CP is available to all, then even if they had the right to apply their private beliefs to their public business, they are still discriminating as gay couples can still not get married.

    1. Sister Mary Clarence 12 Mar 2012, 9:45pm

      “So occupancy is 50% down….only 25% left!….”

And who says there isn’t a God!!

Bless ’em this two numpties are at a cross roads in their lives. They can either put behind them there mistakes of the past and get on with life and work, and try to resurrect their business and build up their trade again

      OR …..

they can continue down along a twisted past of damnation, fueled by hatred and poisoned thoughts until ultimately they are consumed by the fires of hell and the bankruptcy courts.

I trust costs will be awarded against them when they lose the next one.

  11. So let me get this right. The gay couple had a civil partnership and were not allowed to stay as they are not married. Yet the director of Coalition for Marriage says that gay people don’t need marriage as civil partnerships already provide all the legal benefits of marriage…yet he is supporting the B&B owners case….how does that work?!?!

    1. Dave North 12 Mar 2012, 1:17pm

I think we need to shout this glaring contradiction from the rafters…

    2. You have to be a screaming hypocrite. Which is about right for most christians.

  12. The really important news about this case is that the occupancy rates at the Bull’s establishment have fallen – clearly people are deciding they don’t want to holiday in a place run by homophobes – that must be progress!!

  13. Being a Fundamentalist is never admitting you’re wrong.

  14. Straws and clutching anyone?

These two sad homophobes must have loved being in the limelight with this case and appear desperate to do whatever it takes to get back there.

Lets hope they do get it to the ECHR and they rule in our favour, which I hope that they will. As someone has already said, if you open a business of this nature, there wil alway be gay couples and unmarried straight couples looking for somewhere to stay and you cannot ignore the laws of the land!

  15. Actually they are making the case for gay marriage as their original submission was that they only let double rooms to MARRIED people- and therefore were not discriminating against the gay couple as they were “only civil partners and not married’ . If the gay couple HAD been married this differential would not have existed.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 12 Mar 2012, 2:26pm

Exactly right. But…even if they had been married, this couple still would have banned them because they’re of the same gender. This is about homophobia more than anything. How would they know if a straight couple are married if neither wore a ring? Do they ask for proof of marriage I wonder? Even so, that would be illegal too.

      1. Former guests at the time of the original trial said in the press they had been given a double bed by the Bulls automatically. They weren’t married, but had never been asked let alone asked to prove anything. The hotel website also never stated any such policy until the court case was well and truly underway.

The Bulls basically made it up. Not sure why though. If they’d won their case Civil Partnerships would have been replaced by marriage already, and they’d now have to welcome same-sex married couples who may foolishly arrive at their door. They would have lost either way.

        1. Mary Marriott 13 Mar 2012, 4:06pm

It is so hard to imagine they would lie for their cause –

          NOT !

  16. oh not them AGAIN! Don’t they ever shut up?

  17. This is another example of pious christians NOT following the example of Jesus and secondly worrying too much about the ‘sin’ of others. Jesus preached, not to the already religious or the converted, he preached to those that were the out casts, the shunned and apparently sinful, he welcomed them, socialized with them and told them that they are loved by god in spite of their differences and failings. Now I am not a christian but I was brought up in a very devout christian family and if my family can accept my sexuality because of their faith then why cant they? Not only will the Bulls have a problem with taking further action on the gay issue, they will inevitably have more problems with the human rights court as they have said they would have treated straight unmarried couples the same which in it’s self is potentially a breech of human rights. They should not be in the hotel and accommodation industry if they believe their faith allows them to do this.

  18. Spanner1960 12 Mar 2012, 1:37pm

Go for it, that’s what I say.
They will only come back even poorer with their tails between their legs.

  19. At one stage there was a lot of press comment about Peter Bull being quite ill – in which case why don’t they just retire and spend their time doing something useful like fundraisisng for famine relief? As many other people have suggested, surely they are being used by the CI who might also use their money for more usefully for genuine Christian purposes.

  20. Father Dougal 12 Mar 2012, 1:59pm

Some talented musician should write a song about this. Come on Elton/George/Will etc.

    1. I know a song about My Lovely Horse if that helps.

      1. Is there a new verse about flogging the lovely horse when it’s dead? The Bulls are experts in that.

    2. Father Dougal 12 Mar 2012, 4:36pm

Once was enough for me, Stu

    3. Ben Foster 12 Mar 2012, 4:50pm

      isn’t that completely useless

      1. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 9:35pm

Indeed and while we have both remarkable Straight and Gay sportsmen and women fighting to Stop Bullying in our community we have to put up with homophobic bullying within these very pages of which it seems Nothing can be done. How can we fight a campaign when the people who should be protecting us from the homophobic Bullies like Keith clearly aren’t doing enough.

It is just unacceptable that a Gay news website should knowing continue to allow such ignorant bullies to thrive.

        1. Stuff is going on behind the scenes. Patience..

    4. So not only a mentally ill self hating homophobe and a booze hound but also tone deaf too, baby you really got short changed in every department. Now we know what you really want but Will is so way out of your league mate, best stick to your grubby hand.

      1. No mate yours is the self flagellating, self hating, totally crazy hate filled scum that you are. Now do us all a favour anf fu ck off back to your delusional bible bashing chump pals and your imaginary gods, there’s a love.

      2. Ignore the troll. Attention must not be paid.

    5. Spanner1960 12 Mar 2012, 10:29pm

If someone comes up with the words, I can probably do the rest. :)

  21. Do the christian institute do anything but fight against LGBT equality?

    1. Well the anti gay Institute in March 2012 had 13/23 news stories attacking LGBT people and seeking to prevent LGBT people having rights. In February 2012 they had 24/56 news stories attacking LGBT people and seeking to prevent LGBT people having rights.

It seems the anti-gay Institute (aka the Christian Institute) are predominantly a political organisation seeking to promote and encourage homophobia.

      1. Father Dougal? 12 Mar 2012, 3:42pm

Wow, even worse than the Daily Mail! Can they officially be designated a hate group?

      2. Mary Marriott 13 Mar 2012, 4:09pm

        they are twats

  22. Robert in S. Kensington 12 Mar 2012, 2:23pm

These hoteliers were issued a licence to open their business and are subject to the laws governing delivery of goods and services.

Let the Christian Institute support them, it’s only wasting its money on a useless cause. They’ll get nowhere with this one.

    1. Robert

Please do not insult genuine Christians such as the lovely people in the Unitarian church in Manchester mentioned on PN today by suggesting the anti-gay Institute have a Christian bone in their organisation. They may pretend they are a Christian Institute like they pretend that the C4M is not religious. They lie. It is of course the anti-gay Institute.

      1. And let me guess, you also know who the true scotsmen are….

        1. @Valksy

I have met a few true Scotsmen!

  23. Janet Lameck 12 Mar 2012, 2:32pm

Just revoke their business licence, case closed!

    1. If they carry on the way they are that may very well happen. More than likely however is that people just won’t associate with them, or spend their money on their B&B.

    2. I’d rather they let this play out. Any court that allows their case to stand would instantly invalidate all equalities legislation within its area of remit. The Supreme Court and ECHR judges will see that even if the Christian Institute can’t.

    3. Business licence? What are you on about?

  24. All I’m reading from this is two people going “Bawwww, the law won’t allow us to be the exception to the anti-discrimination laws that everyone else has to abide by, we’re so oppressed!”

Whatever court they take it to are still going to agree with the original verdict. These homophobes need to get over themselves.

    1. Dr Robin Guthrie 12 Mar 2012, 2:47pm

Most of these laws came from Strasbourg and Brussels anyway.

They are on a hiding to nothing.

  25. Unbelievable! Two vile vindictive old so-and-so’s, doing everything they can to stay in the limelight and, presumably, not paying their fines. I hope the courts wipe the floor with them.

    1. Father Dougal? 12 Mar 2012, 3:46pm

Not fines, compensation to the real victims in all this.

  26. I am gobsmacked. I truly cannot understand how Peter and Hazelmary Bull can’t comprehend that they have broken the law.
They seriously believe they are in the right – truly bonkers and breathtakingly stupid.

“Hazelmary Bull told the Caterer and Hotelkeeper last month that occupancy at the hotel had dived from 75 to 25 percent during the three-year case.”

Good! Why would anyone want to stay with them (gay or straight) knowing that they’re fanatical nutjobs.

    1. Father Dougal? 12 Mar 2012, 3:50pm

It could be the photos, they did not look at all welcoming. And then this case is all about a lack of hospitality, in the hospitality industry.

BTW, lack of hospitality, and pride, are the definition of the sins of Sodom in Ezekial 16, so by that definition they are also sodomites.

      1. Father Dougal 12 Mar 2012, 3:57pm

        New Living Translation (©2007)

Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.

        Ezekial 16:49

        1. Father Jack 12 Mar 2012, 4:53pm

Lol, well you do pick and choose don’t you! As you claim they contradict each other, are you saying Ezekial is not the word of God?

But tell me, was it right for Lot to offer his daughters to be raped? And why were they not punished for getting their old Dad drunk and committing incest with him?

          1. Who cares.

        2. Father Jack, don’t bother with the troll.

At the end of the day I came to the conclusion long ago that you can’t have a reasoned argument with the likes of this cock.

I mean come on, anyone that uses a username like “Poo on the penis.,=..euu.uu.g.h ..f” really should be treated with a special type of derision.

  27. has something similar to this not already been taken to the ECHR and failed miserably becasue religions and faiths are not above the law and the law will not allow people to be discriminated against?? its probably just he christian institue hiding behind these people trying to get the hate crime laws changed so they can gay bash openly and freely.

  28. In times of economic difficulty…..I think it’s impressive that they are willing to turn away customers. They must have a booming trade!

    1. All part of their martyrdom bid, I expect.

      1. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 9:39pm

Indeed someone given then more shovels, let ’em dig themselves in further.

  29. Next up some ‘christians’ insisting they should be allowed to live their lifestyle according to their beliefs – and stone a load of adulterers to death.

No-one has an opt-out from the law. Why can’t the Bulls understand that? I think they’re too dazzled by their 15 minutes of fame to realise that most people, straight or LGBT, are appalled at their behaviour – or simply laughing at them.

  30. Keith Farrell 12 Mar 2012, 4:21pm

I cannot understand why they did not have to pay damages, seems they want gay people to keep fighting a case which they have already won, and they stand to loose nothing because some bigot is paying for them to defend this case. I thing the injured party must demand that a large amount of money be lodged with their lawyers to cover costs and damages when the case is over, even if they have to loose the hotel

  31. It is a great shame that at their recent appeal which they lost they were let off from paying court fees, that leniency was clearly misjudged.

The Bulls apparently have not learned anything but rather are in complete denial that they have done anything wrong, they think that because they claim to be Christians they should be allowed to do exactly as they please and that they have a religious opt out from civil law.

    1. Then if they do continue in this futile escapade and lose (again), I hope costs are not waived and the Bulls along with the C.I. have to fork out a shed load.

  32. Dave North 12 Mar 2012, 4:27pm

I may have found the reason that these goons are going to the EHCR

    Note the last 2 paragraphs:

“An American organisation, the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), said last year it had also obtained permission from the European Court of Human Rights to intervene in the cases.

Based in Arizona, ADF was founded in 1994 by a group of conservative Christian leaders and opposes abortion, same-sex marriage and adoption by gay couples.”

    1. The ADF come first in this SPLC intelligence report on anti-gay crusaders if you would like more information.

    2. Also, in the 2010 report, under an SPLC-designated hate group called the Illinois Family Institute, this appears:

      ” *Illinois Family Institute
      Carol Stream, Ill.

The Illinois Family Institute (IFI), which says it dedicates itself to issues surrounding “marriage, family, life and liberty,” is heavily focused on attacking gay people and homosexuality in general. It maintains “working partnerships” with other hard-line groups including the Family Research Council (see above) and the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative legal center based in Phoenix. In early 2010, it launched Illinois Family Action as a political-action sister organisation. ”

    3. And this is how the ADF see the people on our side. Finally I know what this “gay agenda” is that our opponents keep talking about :

“Their stated goal is to dissolve religious liberty as we understand it, marginalize human life, and promote an anti-marriage culture in America and globally. By using foreign and transnational law to re-interpret and re-write established precedent, they seek to validate the enforcement of radical new “rights” that will advance the homosexual agenda, destroy marriage, eliminate Christian religious freedom, and impose an aggressive anti-life agenda on us all.”

  33. Stebearleeds 12 Mar 2012, 4:31pm

And when will people get it through there thick heads homosexuality been around since the word GO just like Prostitution and it still be around when we r all dead and gone it will never change life is to short to to go on and on about the same crap day after day, weekend after week etc etc

    1. Both of which are celebrated in your fked up bible. Still having a ham shank over Will? Why not try getting a gobble out of Benny Dickt in the Vatican, he’s more your type.

  34. Good. The more money these anti-gay orgs spend on lawyers, the better. They haven’t a hope in hell of winning.

  35. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 5:23pm

They just ain’t happy until they can discriminated the way they want are they.

Stop running a damaging discriminating business is my advice.

    Nasty people!

  36. Jock S. Trap 12 Mar 2012, 5:24pm

People who run guest house should Not discriminate. End of!

    1. Rashid Karapiet 12 Mar 2012, 10:59pm

The ridiculous Mr.Jockstrap once again raises his jejeune head expecting to be taken seriously. Someone shold tell him to grow up.

      1. Wherever Jock S Trap goes his stalker follows, Mr Rashid… sad!

  37. Bible Basher 12 Mar 2012, 5:25pm

I believe in the passage in Leviticus 25:44-46 where it says “you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this.”
If I am not allowed to purchase foreigners and keep them as slaves, I will go to the ECHR as to why I am not able to practice my Bible Bashing Christian faith.

    1. There’s probably an American organisation that would support and fund you.

  39. Poo on the penis.,=..euu.uu.g.h ..f 12 Mar 2012, 5:28pm

The time has come for me to admit something to you all. I am a Christian, and it is true that I’m also gay. Some of you may know me as Keith but that’s not my real name of course.

I was brought up a Christian by my strict parents who both instilled into me a sense of fear, fear of god and particularly fear or being gay. As a result I started to tear myself apart internally from my early teenage years because I truly thought I was going to hell.

I did eventually tell my mother and my father but have never felt comfortable with my sexuality and I use my religion to shield myself and my true feelings from others.

I do hate myself, I hate that I am sexually attracted to those of the same sex. I am, of course on this site because I’m what you would call a closetcase.

I do also have psychological issues, possibly as a direct result of a combination of self-loathing, fear and religious fervour and perhaps I should see my GP regarding such issues.

    1. Poo on the penis.,=..euu.uu.g.h ..f 12 Mar 2012, 5:31pm

Perhaps in this moment of clarity and lucidity I can finally find some semblence of inner peace. Yes, I hate myself and this may exhibit itself in trying to harm each and everyone of you on here (why else would I trawl these boards) but I too need to admit that I’m gay.

I am deeply sorry for any hurt that I have caused and ask for your forgiveness, after all that is a Christian notion that can be seen in the positive. In return I will try not to be as vile as I have been but of course I can’t promise anything.

Take care and god go with you all.

      1. Not me.

But if it’s not you – and it is what I suspect of you, then I applaud and bow down in sheer humility at the wit and craft in the posting.

      2. Keith’s a bit obsessed with you, Stu :D

That previous post may not have been the ‘real keith’ but it contained so much truth. Obsession/repression. Sad.

    2. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 12 Mar 2012, 5:34pm

Small violin plays sweetly… Boo-hoo, honestly, I’m sobbing. That gurgling noise is me – sobbing. Did your pretty kitten die too? I’m choked… Change your login and join in, or FOD you troll.

      1. Poo on the penis.,=..euu.uu.g.h ..f 12 Mar 2012, 8:38pm

I’m not trollling. I am being deadly serious.

I just feel that the time has come to finally be honest. I’ve had a few life changing experiences as of late which have made me question what my life is about.

As a Christian I am taught that it is better to “love thy neighbour” and I am just very aware that I have been neglecting this aspect of my faith.

I also am drawn to the saying “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” and I seem to be casting a lot of stones lately. I guess in my ignorance I’ve forgotten to adhere to the most basic and fundamental teachings of our lord Jesus Christ. Instead I’ve allowed evil and spite to cloud my views and I believe it is time to make amends.

I’m painfully aware that I have been a horrid, horrid person so I will flagellate myself at the earliest possible moment to purge my sinful wicked ways.

God phoned me not 20 minutes ago and told me that I had indeed been naughty and will have to hand in my 1st class ticket to heaven.

I’m off to listen to Will Young now as further remonstration against my badness.

          Go in peace.

          KEITH. ‘Hic.’

    3. Whoever crafted this is spot-on and a genius !

      Brilliant ! Well done !

All the more funny for being so true !

      1. Too funny

    4. P.S. Never thought I would +1 a post associated with “Keith”, either …

      1. @Harry

I never thought I would +1 a Keith post either. Whilst Keith has tried to pass it off as me (and I would like to be able to take the credit!), it would be wrong to take the credit for such an obvious piece of art and genius! Its a clearly completely accurate portrayal of the sorry mess that is Keith!

        1. @Stu … sorry … can’t type … still laughing …

    5. LOL!

I like whoever put this up, its classic.

Probably closer to the truth than one might guess too!

  40. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 12 Mar 2012, 5:28pm

Sorry but if the good christians are arguing that civil partnerships are every bit as good and equal as a hetty marriage (in defense of the equal marriage bill etc), then how can they then back the Bulls who didn’t treat their unsuspecting guests as a civil partnership every bit as good as a marriage… huh? That doesn’t make sense to me.

But let’s face it, the Christian Institute are just using these poor sops (da Bulls) to test the equality provision – and isn’t it fun that the CI are wasting their hard-begged cash on this no-brainer issue. Although it is sad to hear their B&B isn’t doing so well, again, isn’t wise to accept as many types of customer as you can in such a depression?! Not reducing it solely to just christian married couples… maybe with blonde hair, blue eyes preferably.

  42. Don’t these people EVER give in? Jeez, accept fact, Mr & Mrs Bull. TIME HAS CHANGED, Its time to accept this and stop rolling around in the Stone Age!

  43. Staircase2 12 Mar 2012, 7:43pm

    “Gone too far” by arse!…

    …the bloody idiots…

  44. Swansea_1973 12 Mar 2012, 9:00pm

It is 2012, and if a gay couple want to stay in a gay friendly hotel, B&B, why didn’t they go on line and check first, as it is not rocket science to do! people check out the above for disabled access or pet friendly hotels etc, even book on rooms on line. as a gay guy myself am I being too obvious here? If a establishment who is run by a couple, not a chain have their views or opinions as a Christian shouldn’t they be respected too, this is political correctness gone nuts. at the end of the day they weren’t refused a room, so that they were not left out on the streets, why didn’t the gay couple check before booking and handing over their cash at the time of booking, it really doesn’t make sense to me. The B&B owners are being made to be the scapegoat here, they have their views, why shouldn’t they be respected. The world has gone P.C Mad I suppose if the gay are successful in having Compensation they will be giving that away to the Terence Higgins Trust or other good cause I think not

    1. casparthegood 12 Mar 2012, 9:20pm

if I want to go to a B&B I shouldn’t have to research the damm place first to see if I will be welcome. I cannot think of any case where a straight person or couple married or otherwise have been turned away fro a gay run business. How many businesses would willingly identify as being christian anyway.Looks like the kiss of death to me from the evidence here.

      1. Swansea_1973 12 Mar 2012, 9:35pm

Well you obviously are setting yourself up for a fall in life then, by your way of thinking a Straight couple wouldn’t have to check out a child minder before leaving their kids with them, because the parents are straight, the child minder doesn’t need checking out????. grow up, talk sense and not bollocks hey!!

        1. Jock S. Trap 13 Mar 2012, 3:59pm

Clearly you wish to be treated as other treat you.

The rest of us demand equality not separation and discrimination.

    2. As was pointed out in one of the first articles on this story 3 years ago, they did NOT state on their website ‘No unmarried couples’. Singles holiday resorts say ‘No couples, no children’. Some holiday resports say ‘couples only’, so why shouldn’t they?

Also, the government keep harping on about how Civil Partnership is ‘just as good’ as marriage, so the Bulls cannot win. A Scottish pound note is ‘just as good’ as a pound coin everywhere in the UK, so by the same rules, by refusing this couple service they cannot win.

    3. David Myers 13 Mar 2012, 7:24am

Yeah and if their views or opinions as a Christian says they can’t stand the idea of associating with a black couple, I guess they can refuse them too, right? Try thinking for a change. Clearly this is a case of illegal discrimination and I don’t give a d#mn about their religious opinions. They are providing a public service and do not have the right to discriminate. They are in violation of the same law that prevents racial discrimination and discrimination based on the sex of the customer. Simple.

    4. “The world has gone P.C Mad”

It only looks that way if you’re used to being a bigot and getting away with it simply becuase you think god told you to be.

      1. @Will

The people who cry the world has gone PC Mad usually are those who a frightened because their “special” rights which exclude others are going to be no longer treated as rights to suppress others. The won’t lose their rights of course, but they fear others having the same rights.

        1. Homosexuals have ‘special’ rights, lifestyle choice or behaviour should not come before the belief of the country and what the origin of the country stood for.

The world, if not the UK has gone PC mad and I lay blame with Tony Blair, Maggie had the right idea with Section 28 and Russia too has done the correct thing in banning promotion of homosexuality.

    5. Jock S. Trap 13 Mar 2012, 3:57pm

So we have to check to see if we are ‘acceptable’ to others. Here’s me think you admitted it was 2012.

We shouldn’t have to check or look to be accepted. If people open business thats it, end of. If you want a business you don’t discriminate. You are entitled to you views yes but not if it gets in the way of your business.

Fact, we don’t and should Never have to check if being Gay is acceptable. It’s wrong. People don’t have to check if their race or colour of their skin is acceptable and neither is orientation. If all the owners can think about is sex them that really is There own problem.

My advice:- get there heads out of the sewer pit they clearly belong and deal with human beings.

  45. If a Gay couple ran a hotel and refused to serve christians, there would be hell on. they are discriminating, as they are forcing their beliefs onto someone else. they would outright not allow two men to share the same room, it seems, as the church is against gay marriage, and won’t let civil partners share a room! the church needs to get with the times.

    1. Swansea_1973 12 Mar 2012, 9:31pm

Too Many People, or minorities as they tend to call themselves (and by doing that choose to single themselves out) are on the band wagon banging their drum for this that and the other. Why didn’t the couple check the B&B out in the first place, there plenty of gay friendly hotels etc out there, so why go there if it didn’t check out or come up to their expectations. its just like going on like to look for a vegetarian restaurant and then going there to order a steak and the complaining?? I have seen this couple on the local West Country Tonight on ITV1 and Points West on BBC1 West, and to me didn’t look hurt or put out but smug and had ££££’s in their eyes, if they want to pull a fast one and Sue an company, why not do it to a Major Chain, Travelodge, Holiday Inn, Marriott?? no go for the elderly old codgers in a Small B&B, Its the Gay couples fault they didn’t check out the B&B fully before they booked, the morale of the story check things out before you go!! Don’t Whine

Twat. The EHCR support human rights, not backward thinking, blinkered homophobes who’s principles are still set in stone by 2000 year old outdated dogma and principles defined in a far off, dusty, dangerous and uncivilised bunch of wandering jews.

        1. “What is right today is wrong tomorrow and vica versa. ”

Its called progress, get over it.

“In 2000 years, Darwins theories will also be irrelevant by your reckoning since you hold that time renders literature obselete!”

Only if new evidence comes to light – its called science. Look it up sometime. What will definitely change is people like you will become extinct, you’re genes are weak, and you serve no propose to humanity. You’re already fighting a losing battle to preserve your retrograde belief structure. I get a good laugh out of it though, so keep it up!

          1. Jock S. Trap 13 Mar 2012, 4:04pm

            Fruckin Hell your boring.

          2. Your going down.

          3. Who’s he talking to ? Has he not noticed that no one is bothered ?

          4. Clearly not :D He’s a real manic street preacher, it seems – so full of hate and resentment that he’s blinded by it. Sad.

      3. “It will backfire when it reacheds the Echr and the Bulls appeal is upheld,”

Yeah, like they’ve been doing SOOOOO well up to now.

Like you, Keith, they are miserable failures and utterly powerless.

        Let them try.

      4. Jock S. Trap 13 Mar 2012, 4:02pm

Your clearly someone who thrives on being a victim. You want to be discriminated against and treated differently.

That is of course your choice but the rest of us wish to be treated with as much respect and decency as those others crave.

You are clearly someone who has no self respect for yourself or others, therefore you will always be treated badly.

Shame, where is your self worth?

        1. “the rest of us wish to be treated with as much respect and decency as those others crave.”

Behave and act correctly and ye shall be treated so.

      5. “Don’t Whine”

Like the Bulls are doing, you mean?

    2. Spanner1960 12 Mar 2012, 10:31pm

Maybe I wouldn’t want paganist God-bothering happy-clappers in my establishment either.
Particularly if they were Catholic and there were children around…

    3. “Homosexualitis sufferer Will said…”

Firstly, that’s a different Will you insulted, not me. There is more than one person with that name, you moron.

Second, I suffer nothing. Certainly not being homosexuality. I like who I am, which you clearly cannot understand, given the ex-gay, self hate, drinking, etc…

Thirdly, your response was a load of crap. Learn to write a decent argument. All you’ve proven is that the more religious you are, the bigger the idiot you become.

  46. Let them have their day in court (again). They will lose the case (again) and both they and the unChristian Alliance will be out of pocket (again). Costs and damages will rocket.

Eventually, with spiralling legal fees and compensation payments, and the falling revenue from the negative publicity they are bringing on themselves, they will have to sell their precious church — sorry, I mean B&B — and the point will become moot, anyway.

Sooner or later, they will exhaust all earthly justice and will have to rely upon divine intervention. Shan’t hold my breath on that one!

I’m guessing that when ‘The Rapture’ comes, it will be the Bulls sitting at the back of the bus / travelling in Steerage, not us. If they get a ticket at all, that is.

  47. While I am not gay or homosexual I do believe in equal rights for everyone regardless of race /colour or gender preference and would not stay at any place that discriminated and I urge all others to do the same.

  48. Fantastic news ! I hope they take this to the court of human rights and it costs them and their religious bigot backers millions in legal costs and everyone can read in the news that you can not discriminate against people because of sexuality.

No court of human rights would vote in favour of these homophobes who bit off more than they could chew and now are suffering the consequences.

I love they say they want only to live in peace with others yet are wanting to take people to court at a time of religious love and hope. Not to mention are backed by homophobic bigots.

  49. So, by their logic, I should be able to run a B&B and, in accordance with my religion, if it so dictates, be able to ban blacks, whites, Chinese, Indians, Americans, Brits, Australians, Mormons etc.

  50. The frothing troll has broken the formatting :D That reply above was to Harry re the poor keith troll-bot.

  51. “sending a public electronic message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character contrary to the Communications Act 2003.”

Did you know this is an arrestable offence Keith.

  52. their website still contains discriminating clauses. their booking conditions of this month (march)restrict double accommodation to heterosexual married couples. I have complained to Devon and Cornwall police. I urge others to do the same
