  1. I’ve always been happy to live alongside people with religious belief. but I’m increasingly concerned at the strident tones that fundamentalist groups with Christianity (particularly) are taking. And their growing insistence that they be allowed to discriminate and to interfere in *civil* affairs.

The sooner religious organisations are kept completely out of the legal and civil framework and restricted to doing their religious stuff, the better.

And yes, I do realise there are plenty of Christians who do not share the views of the organisations themselves, but it would be nice if they actually stood up and told the leaders of these organisations just how out of touch and bigoted they are.

    1. I think the “increasingly strident tones” from religious types – not just the fundamentalists – is because society is changing and the vilification of gay people is becoming less and less acceptable. Their opposition to our getting equal rights has taken this long to happen because our prospect of getting equal rights has taken this long to happen. They are happy to live along side us as long as their privilege to discriminate and condemn us was not affected. Now that they see their “god given right” to be bigots as being under threat, they protest ever more loudly and irrationally.

  2. The idea that same sex marriage could threaten the existence of humanity is based on the theory that if it were widely available everyone would opt for same sex marriage instead of opposite sex marriage and that no people in same sex marriages would have children.

This is obviously absurd. Straight people would not enter into gay marriages. Also people in same sex marriages do often have children. Countries where same sex marriage is legal haven’t seen a sudden drop in the birth rate.

It is based on the wholly unscientific idea that people can choose their sexual orientation.

The Pope can only influence the ignorant so long as they stay ignorant but eventually people see what a load of old cobblers he is spouting and then don’t trust him any more.

    1. Excellent points. I think we can add that Pope Benedict is frustrated that the Roman Catholic Church is losing its influence over human sexuality. You know the old saying – grab the people by the nads and their hearts and minds will follow.
But now we are living in a world where people realize they do not have to marry, do not have to have children if they do not wish to have them and are not condemned to a life of celibate servitude to the church if they do not wish to marry or if they are gay. They are losing control and members.

    2. It seems to me that anyone who thinks homosexuality is a choice must be, by definition, bisexual.

  3. Errol Semple 9 Mar 2012, 2:42pm

Hatred and bigotry. Civil marriage is none of the church’s business.

  4. Dear Pope Benedict,
I really do not know why news outlets feel it necessary to report your every thought – since your realm of influence is only in the lives of Roman Catholics.
Take a good look, sir. Even among Roman Catholics in this country, your influence is failing. Your prejudice and homophobia are yours and not the teachings of Jesus Christ ,whom you claim to represent.
People know this and they are tuning you out. Your words sound like the futile screams of a hierarchy. The real Christian faith will survive and leave behind people like you and Fred Phelps.

  5. Dear Pope Pointyhat, you are a crusty, celibate, decrepit old virgin (probably) who has never been married, nor really lived outside your pampered and cloistered existence. You know precisely chuff all on the subject of marriage and would do well to sit down and be quiet before people start looking at you as a conspirator in some of the most appalling crimes imaginable. Lots of love, everyone who doesn’t believe in your bloody fairy tale and thinks that Joseph was a bit of a prat for not realising that Mary was a slapper.

    1. You have just made my afternoon with that, Genius!

    2. My 2cents 9 Mar 2012, 3:06pm

Well said. If Jesus were alive today, He’d slap this man off his “throne” and order him to never pray to Him again, and He’d be right to do so.

      1. Lets for one moment assume that the Bible is not a fairy tale (I think it is – but just humour me for a second) …

So if Jesus were to return. Then my reading of the (at time interesting) storybook leads me to conclude that Jesus would definitely slap the Pope around the face repeatedly for his bigotry, give interviews on BBC News denouncing the inhumanity of Colin Hart and the Christian Institute, meet with the MCC and other supportive churches and endorse their ministry and find some way of staging a spectacular event that would embarrass all who seek to say that intolerance and prejudice is a Christian trait.

Of course, it is a fairytale … but if it were true then that is what would happen … in the same way that if Aladdin were true I would be able to find a lamp and make three wishes and Andrea Minichiello WIlliams would have a Damascus Road moment – realise she has been wrong and publically apologise and do into a ministry of silence and chastity! – the other two wishes…

        1. It is only partly a fairy-tale…It is also a rag-bag of (some very lovely) poetry, (dodgy) tribal history, and ideological assertion.
Christianity is essentially the fictional reconstruction of Jesus (chiefly by St Paul) as a supernatural being called ‘Christ’. Little can be safely said about Jesus – he was probably an apocalyptic Rabbi who thought the world was going to end sharpish (a view generally held by his first followers). His basically ethical preocupations bear little relationship to the theology woven around him by the Church. He seems to have felt that loving God and one’s neighbour were more important than obeying Torah or other aspects of Jewish exclusiveness, but even this is disputable in light of certain Gospel material.
He would certainly have been utterly baffled by what ‘Christians’ believe about him.

          1. @Riondo

I agree I like some of the poetry, especially Song of Songs (which is almost pornographic in parts!) ….

If real and true, Jesus would not have been impressed one iota with the Pope and Dr Rowan Williams.

  6. Ah! The arch-nonce has crawled out from under his rock for another wail.

    1. Such a twat!

    2. Dave North 9 Mar 2012, 3:22pm

“Poop on the penis…,,,.euuugh” is an anagram of “Pope Pee Hugs Thou Union”

      1. GingerlyColors 10 Mar 2012, 2:46pm

        I just love anagrams!!!

      2. GingerlyColors 10 Mar 2012, 2:48pm

        I love anagrams!!!

        1. GingerlyColors 10 Mar 2012, 2:51pm

Sorry, I was replying to Dave North’s posting about “Poop on the penis…,,,.euuugh” is an anagram of “Pope Pee Hugs Thou Union” and somehow it’s gone and stuck my reply at the bottom of the page.

          1. @Gingerly

Unfortunately its one of the side effects of PN taking the responsible and respectable act of deleting comments by Keith that it interrupts the flow of later comments.

I like laughing at Keith. The anagrams help!

    3. Child abusers do not identify as homo or hetro they steal the childhood from innocents and Catholic priests do not define themselves a gay – because their celibacy denies that human craving –

A former Roman Catholic priest from Staffordshire has been jailed for 22 years for sexually abusing eight boys.

Alexander Bede Walsh, of Church Lane, Abbots Bromley, carried out the attacks while working at children’s homes and churches between the 1970s and 1990s.

Walsh, 58, was found guilty of two serious sexual offences and 19 counts of indecent assault at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

He was convicted of offences against boys aged between eight and 16.

Jurors heard the abuse took place in Coventry, Staffordshire and Warwickshire between 1975 and 1993.

Pedos in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones

      1. I think statistically speaking gay mean are least likely to be the kiddy fiddlers!

      2. my dad was avowedly heterosexual and he abused a little girl

    4. I suppose you’d be happier if it were girls being abused right?

      Grow up FFS.

      1. Yeah, paedophilia is a paraphillia – homosexuality is a sexual orientation. The two are totally different by definition. Paedophilia is the specific attraction to CHILDREN – homosexuality is attraction by one person to the same gender. Paedophilia leads onto an attraction to children in general and given the church is full of young male children you can see the issue. If you found objects sexually attractive and never left the couch store you would suffer the same issue – doesn’t mean you are specific to couches – just means you can’t easily get at anything else if you will. And you can call me a “paedo-homosexual-apologist” until the cows come home – and when they do come home I’ll ask them as to inform me of what on earth it means….

  7. When will this idiotic pratt get it into his head that marriage was always a civil matter before he and his predecessor s jumped upon it to make it religious?

Contrary to what he says, gay marriage will not undermine straight just as straight marriage will not undermine gay marraige (when evantually passed)

Family units are no longer husband, wife and 2.5 kids but 1 mum and kids, 2 mums and kids, 2 dads and kids and so on. These families are jsut as happy as their hetty counterparts and in most cases those kids wqill grow up having a better understanding of the world b not being blinded by those ridiculous rose tinted specs Pope idiot keeps firmly in place.

Finally, the story mentioned that homeless charity liekly to have its funding sropped because of new directors libreal view on gay marriage. If it does happen, it really ios going to make the Catholic Church look even worse isn’t it?

    Freaking fools!

    1. Except all the best figures say it does undermine marriage. If we look at Sweden, one of the first European countires to introduce gay civil partnerships and later marriage, we see massive rates of cohabitation as people choose not to opt for marriage and, along with that, increasing psychological problems among young children as the family unit has been increasingly damaged and many children simply have no idea of who their. Perhaps you could give some facts to back up your statistics next time.

      1. Dave North 9 Mar 2012, 3:13pm

OK. Show us these figures, citing sources.

      2. I ask for your facts then please……

      3. Horsepucky.
        Submit YOUR statistics.

In American states where same-sex marriage has been granted, divorce rates have gone down. Obviously same-sex marriage recognition has nothing to do with heterosexual marriages or divorces.

As for Sweden, couple who register as couples with the state – not “marriage” – have ALL of the exact same legal recognitions as married couples. no wonder they aren’t getting married. there is no need for them to do so.

      4. I think you are talking rot. What is your evidence for all this?

      5. Adam

With respect, in countries where same-sex marriage has been legalized–Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, and Spain–the rate of heterosexual marriage stability has either gone up, remained stable, or declined consistent with other countries in the region that do not recognize same-sex marriage.

Many critics of same-sex marriage cite the work of Stanley Kurtz, a pundit at the right-wing Hoover Institution (which describes him in his official bio as an “outspoken combatant in America’s culture wars”). Kurtz argues that gay marriage in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden has destroyed the institution of heterosexual marriage. There are several problems with his work, most notably that:Same-sex marriage wasn’t actually legal in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden when he wrote this report. These countries had domestic partnership laws, comparable to those of England and Wales. Denmark has voted for equal marriage but not yet introduced it. It will happen later this year. …

        1. … Marriage decline in Scandinavian nations is comparable to marriage decline in other relatively affluent European nations that do not legally recognize same-sex relationships, such as France and Germany.
Marriage decline has been ongoing for decades, and does not correlate to legal recognition of same-sex relationships.
Further research has been undertaken that looks at Norway and Sweden after the introduction of actual equal marriage and demonstrates that there is no negative impact on “heterosexual” marriage – in fact there is a slowing of the already present decline in one state and a growth in marriage in the other.

          1. Ben Foster 9 Mar 2012, 4:47pm

Well, there you go. Adam, the ball is in your court.

          2. Seems Adam doesnt want to respond now the ball is in his court …

  8. Oh Dear!!! This tiresome old man – every time he opens his mouth he, yet again, demonstrates just how irrelevant he and his ‘organisation’ really is!!!!!

  9. Two gay men or two lesbians consensually marrying is no threat whatsoever to marriage.

There is no danger to society from gay or lesbian couples marrying.

There is nothing wrong with the Pope (or any other religious leader or other person) promoting marriage between opposite sex couples. Providing the couples consent to marriage – then I would encourage the Pope and others to promote such marriages. However, that does not mean that they can prevent loving gay couples from demonstrating their love and commitment to each other in a civil ceremony.

The Pope, Cardinal and others are trying to pretend that they are not implying that LGBT people are worse humans because they are gay. They are trying to pretend that it is purely an issue to do with marriage. They are trying to pretend that civil partnership is sufficient. They are trying to pretend that this is nothing to do with human rights. They are trying to pretend they are not prejudiced. They are lying. They are wrong.

  10. Do the likes of the Pope, Cardinals and Archbishops not realise that by pursuing such an arrogant agenda that seeks to treat LGBT people with the same inhumanity as white supremacists treated interracial marriage that they are building the case for a complete separation of church and stae, they are building the case for removal of tax breaks for churches and that they are alienating some of their supporters by their vindictive and offensive language and thinly vieled prejudice. If they do not realise this then they have no place leading any organisation – their lack of perspective and honesty is astouding!

    1. I would so like to see tax breaks removed from these “religious” organisations.

      1. @Pavlos

With the exception of where they fund raise for registered charities who have a definitie non-religious charitable purpose eg Shelter, Oxfam etc (that money whilst it goes through their accounts for legal reasons should be exempt from tax) – all other money should be taxable.

      2. I wouldn’t.

        the reason:

as long as churches are tax exempt, they are (supposedly) forbidden from participating in political discourse, as that is reserved for tax-paying members of society.

the minute you remove the tax exemption, they will get even MORE involved in political activism.

now, the REAL thing we should want is for government bodies to ACTIVELY reprimand and threaten churches who actively pursue political agendas. they should be fined. HUGE amounts.

        1. Good argument. To do that though we need to give real teeth to the Charity Commissioners. They growled at the Christian Institutes political activities which breached charity law, but hardly demonstrated any intention to uphold the law robustly.

  11. A former Roman Catholic priest from Staffordshire has been jailed for 22 years for sexually abusing eight boys.

Alexander Bede Walsh, of Church Lane, Abbots Bromley, carried out the attacks while working at children’s homes and churches between the 1970s and 1990s.

Pedos in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones!

      1. Keith: F off.

Just for your information your statement above is wrong. The majority of sexual abuse is carried out by men on girls.

If there is any “bias” it is that men are far more likely to engage in sexual abuse of children than women, no matter what the sex of the child.

You are a man, but I am not suggesting you are therefore a child abuser.

You are however a pathetic drunk.

And your spelling and grammar is awful. Have you ever considered going back to school?

        1. Poo on the penis..,........euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 2:15pm

In the church the VAST majority of child abuse is men on boys and is therefore homosexual in nature. Even Stu(pid) knows this!

          1. Robert in S. Kensington 10 Mar 2012, 2:56pm

Dumb arse, the reason why that seems apparent is that there are more males available to them than females. So what does that say for the females they’ve molested? In the U.S., government crime statistics for paedophilia outside the church is overhwelmingly heterosexual in nature as well as crimes of incest. Explain that, moron.

          2. Poo on the penis..,........euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 3:58pm

There are altar girls and there are choir girls mot greatly differing in proportion. However, what does differ in proportion is the amount of child abuse. The vast majority is of a male homosexual nature yet the vast majority of children in the church are not boys!
            Clearly a homosexual isue!

          3. My experience of investigating child sex abuse when in the police was that there were more female victims than male.
So you statement about what I know (with you demented inflection on my name) is wrong, but then so is almost everything you say.

          4. Poo on the penis..,....,....euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 6:02pm

PCSO is not police. You know nothing of the law, not even the basics. You thought homophobia nd racism wre crimes until I corrected you!
You also thought I had broken the law on here. You are an ignoramus!

          5. Poo on the penis..,....,....euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 6:06pm

Homosexuals are female too you know!

          6. Poo on the penis..,....,....euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 6:33pm

            A homosexualite buggerer says…
My experience of investigating child sex abuse when in the police was that there were more female victims than male.
So you statement about what I know (with you demented inflection on my name) is wrong, but then so is almost everything you say.

            My reply
Females are homosexual too don’t you know?.

          7. Ignorant tw@t, Keith
I dont care what you think of my former career. You don’t know me or what I did. With nearly 500 arrests under my belt in the police – I clearly was not a PCSO. I don’t care what you think of me. You lie about what I say. You twist everything everyone says. You sad deluded (and probably very lonely and ignorant old and twisted) fool. I never said homophobia was a crime, using homophobia can be a crime – having the thought is not. You are one of the most evil, twisted, depraved, ignorant, odious, and arrogant b@stards I have ever had to misfortune to communicate with. Having been a police escort to and from prison for Steven Grieveson (look him up) when we interviewed him about further murders, my standards of people I have been in contact with is low – and you demean even Grieveson.
You are the most vile and ignorant person I have heard of – and the police are investigating I receive regular updates but can say no more. The best thing is on top of them

          8. … tracing you and hopefully holding you to account for your criminal and reprehensible behaviour, so too will your forecasts that nothing can or will change be proved to be wrong when equal marriage comes into play and LGBT people are given equal rights in the Uk. It will be part of the movement across the world with many more US states, Australia, Nepal, New Zealand, Mongolia, Germany and many more states seeming extremely likely to follow suit. I can’t wait till we rub your sorry, demented ex-gay, alcoholic nose in it. You deserve much worse. Your attitude is vile and crazed.
Anyway. Last comment to you. This subject is not about YOU or me. Its about the equally vile attitudes of the RC church. They will lost and so will you. Drink yourself into oblivion ex gay boy. Enjoy your sorrow.

          9. Please Stu. Let that be the last time you ever leave a comment to him. He feeds off it. He’s probably at home jerking off right now at the fact you bothered to reply. Some people have sex, some people watch porn, Keith jerks off to pink news comments – you just made him cum. If everyone just ignores the troll, it will leave, or at least serve as a reminder to everyone how depraved, screwed up, and full of hate the ‘ex gay’ community are.

          10. I’m sorry. I should just ignore him, and usually do. I know he craves attention and as soon as I have finished venting I regretted it. Not that I regret anything I said … I regretted giving him recognition – he doesnt deserve any.

          11. chris lowercase 10 Mar 2012, 8:03pm

i agree. im a troll but i use my powers for good. if i want to be a part of society i must stop eating people!

          12. Poo on the penis..,....,,,......euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 8:35pm

You are still persisting in your ignorance. You can incite a person to hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation, be it heterosexual hatred or homosexual hatred.
There is no homophobia element it mentioned in the act, any more than heterophobia is mentioned, Simply put (for you), a person can be incited to hate a particular orientation but that does not make it a phobia. Homophobia is not a legal term nor is it actually illegal.
Any phobia is an irrational fear and therefore a medical issue, not a legal one. You cannot incite mental phobias you see which is why the word is used by the homosexualite disorder community but not in statute or criminal law.
So you see, homosexualites do not benefit from their own personal set of laws but since you deem those that are opposed to homosexualiy as having mental problems (phobic), it is only fair that sexually moral persons deem homosexualites to have mental problems. But it sems they don’t like their own medicine!

          13. Dear Poo etc. You are seriously mentally ill, please get help. Really you are not at all well in your mind, get some help as soon as you can for your obsessive disorders, you poor thing, I do feel so sad for you. It must be dreadful to be in your situation. I am quite serious you are terribly unwell and I am concerned for your mental health.

          14. Poo on the penis..,....,,,......euuugh! 10 Mar 2012, 8:39pm

You really are mentaly diseased to view legally held opposing views as worse than murder. Step away from the computer!
Also, the rmode of speech you employ is from the sewer and exposes you as an individual of low character.

          15. Drinking again, are we?

  12. “Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself.”
He has a point, just a few months back the human population of the world hit the 7 billion mark… if this trend continues and we encourage gay marriage we’ll be extinct within a generation.
I mean everyone will decide to be gay overnight if gay people have equality, then there won’t be any straight people left… or something.
I’m starting to seriously wonder about all those people who claim that the Pope is a highly educated intellectual, cause all I can see is a bunch of red herrings, scaremongering hyperbole and a fundamental misunderstanding of population trends.

  13. This is a militant counter-reformation Pope talking to his own barmy constituency. Just ignore him. Lots of his own spiritual followers seem to do just that.

  14. I don’t understand how the hell same-sex marriages affect heterosexual marriages. The only thing different is the gender of the spouses.

    1. Not every homosexual couples wants children. I’m never having them.
    2. Homosexual people can raise children just as effectively as heterosexuals.

  15. Singapore Sam 9 Mar 2012, 3:43pm

It could be said that his stance regarding gays is intrinsically disordered and evil.

    1. It could and it should!

  16. Laura Lee 9 Mar 2012, 3:50pm

With no disrespect intended to the Catholic church, wouldn’t someone who has not taken a vow of celibacy have more insight into what marriage is?

  17. The Pope and the Catholic and Christian Churchs are the ones who are misrepresenting LGBT people as bad people. The Christians have failed to help LGBT people and now they attack them like a wounded and dieing dog who will do anything to stay alive, including low blows.
Now is the time for all LGBT people and yes you who are in the closet to come out and fight while you still have a chance to get your equal and Civil Rights and be free of the Christian oppression that will enslave you if you do not act now to stop them. It is time to end the slavery and discrimination and fear and prejudice the Christians have been forcing on LGBT people for 2,000 years now. Freedom is not free you have to fight back and win.

  18. Oh is Ratzinger speaking again?

yes Ratty – we know that divorce is the greatest threat to marriage which is why you oppose it?

    That’s not what he said?

Well his opinions are hardly relevant since he’s a virgin and therefore completely unqualified to tallk about marriage.

  19. Because definitions are so much more inportant than human rights.

This nasty old huckster is a complete cnut and I find I have absolutely no respect for him at all.

  20. He’ll be dead in a few years and then he can answer to his own hatred in his make believe hell.

    1. Well his predecessor was equally foul. And his successor will be also.

  21. I wondered once if he was right about us converting heterosexuals so I tried my best. All that happened was that I kept being arrested for stalking cute straight guys.

  22. Dr Robin Guthrie 9 Mar 2012, 4:42pm

I think Herr Pope is a liar.

Whenever I hear someone stating that religious marriage is and always has been a union between a man and woman, I simply refer them to the following study.

    http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/2rites.asp

    1. He seems to conveniently forget that the Vatican has a rite for same sex marriage and historical Vatican records demonstrate that in early years the Vatican endorsed same sex partnerships with a rite remarkably similar to matrimony.

  23. Robert in S. Kensington 9 Mar 2012, 4:54pm

“Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself.”

Yes, like hetero adulterers and philanderers, women who don’t marry but have children regardless, sometimes by several different fathers.

Has he and his hierarchy ever heard of bearing false witness against one’s neightbour? Clearly this is what he is doing in regard to gay couples wanting to marry. He like many of them in the major cults are nothing more thatn liars, hypocrites and bigots of the worst kind, in fact i’d venture to say they have a monopoly on it if you look at their history of oppression, their subjugation of women as well as the denigration, villification and dehumanisation of gay people, and of course, last not least the almost 2 millenia old tradition of paedophilia that is still ongoing.

  24. Jock S. Trap 9 Mar 2012, 4:57pm

Funny isn’t it? The way the church carries on about mariage equality is as if we’re telling ‘Them’ they cannot marry rather than introducing a stable more tolerant, equal society.

How exactly is marriage regardless of gender really going to affect them?

Word of advice if your not Gay or Lesbian don’t marry a same sex partner. How thick are these people.

Guess it truely shows these religious people don’t want love nor stability in society. Clearly they have lost control the thing They’re really on about.

    1. Question Time last night was a perfect illustration of how isolated and out of touch the Cardinal and his ilk are with regards the issue of fairness, equality, human rights and marriage!

      1. Jock S. Trap 10 Mar 2012, 2:48pm

Indeed and the applause Will Young got for supporting marriage says that people like this Cardinal are Very wrong and Very not relevent to todays society.

It’s clear, most british people want a decent society whereas the Church and it’s leaders (not all) prefer unstablity. So they can Control I suspect.

  25. Funniest comment I have seen on this story – “Hey, didn’t Darth Vader kill this guy?!”

  26. Here is an article with the text of the letter to be read out in RC churches on Sunday and a video of one of the RC Archbishops reading it out.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/03/09/gay-marriage-catholics-to-be-told-to-oppose-radical-plans-during-sunday-mass_n_1335046.html

    Appalling prejudice and indoctrination.

These clerics are front men for a foreign potentate based in Rome. How dare a foreign religion meddle in the political process. We arleady went through this in the 16th century. Does he want a repeat of what Henry VIII and his daughter did? He’s asking for it. Maybe they should be reminded? Don’t stick your noses in things that really don’t concern you. This is a secular civil matter, nothing more.

A never married virgin at the head of an international paedophile ring speaks.

  29. So, the head of the largest child molesting ring in the world, a man who has never been married and says he has never had sex is going to lecture the rest of us about marriage? I don’t see his qualifications to opine on that subject…

  30. Why are you attracted to this site I wonder?

  31. Abuse isn’t exclusively homosexual. Nor is it proportionately homosexual. Nor are homosexuals attracted to the priesthood.

However, I am sure you spend a lot of your time obsessing about what other people do in bed.

  32. His holiness Pope Benedict XVI is infallibility when he sits Ex-cathedra!

    1. Pope Pointyhat is a pampered twit who isn’t fit to lick my boots.

misrepesentation????? what on earth does he mean????? straight marriage is gonna become between a man and a goat or summat????

  34. Dr Robin Guthrie 10 Mar 2012, 2:41am

    Wow. You really are thick.

    Ever attempted education.

    You know. 1+1=2

  35. That’s what I don’t get every time the church speaks on this subject. How on Earth my neighbours’ right to marry could influence my own right to marry? In what way our respective marriages could interfere with each other or suddenly invaluate each other? Will my neighbour love his wife less if I get married?

  36. Dr Robin Guthrie 10 Mar 2012, 3:08am

Keith. You are just a very ugly human being.

Im surprised you can even live with yourself.

I cannot for one moment imagine fostering such venom.

Please seek help. For your own sake.

You have 1 life. Why are you wasting it?

And PS. My PHd is not up for your usual bile

    1. Dr Robin Guthrie 10 Mar 2012, 11:05am

Thank you. You have just given me all the ammunition I need.

      1. Oh do tell, Dr Guthrie.

Do you have plans? Please tell me that you do!

      2. Keith,,,,,,,,,,hiv free always!!! 10 Mar 2012, 2:10pm

      My reply…
If as you say, homsoexuals are not attracted to the priesthood and most priests are heterosexual, that actually undermines your argument since the priesthood yields a much higher rate of homosexual or bisexual child abuse than heterosexual child abuse.. Why then are the minority (homosexuals) commiting the majority of abuse? As I said, homosexual child abuse is disproportionate in the church. Thank you for your support of my view……

  37. Let’s not let this paper tiger distract us from the fact that Pope Benedict XVI is facing charges of crimes against humanity in the International Criminal Court for “the preservation and leadership of a worldwide totalitarian régime of coercion which subjugates its members with terrifying and health-endangering threats,” and for his part in the Vatican’s pedophile priests molestation and rape scandals, and the Vatican’s “adherence to a fatal forbiddance of the use of condoms, even when the danger of HIV-Aids infection exists.

  39. More rhetoric from the Catholic church – this time in letters to a Scottish newspaper …

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/comment/letters/why-not-implement-a-referendum-on-gay-marriage.16982577?

Do they really not see that civil marriage differentiating between two couples who consent to marriage due to their love and commitment to each other and wanting to share this in a public event where they make a contractual commitment to each other – purely on the basis of the orientation of the couples is inhumane and treating people as less human?

Would the first letter write really hold a referendum on whether people should be segregated on the grounds of race? If not, why is it acceptable to have a referendum about whether it is right to segregate on the grounds of orientation?

  40. Love this line from the parody on you tube about Margaret Court (another fundamentalist who supports segregation of LGBT people)

The bigots say, “No marriage for a couple whose bits are matching, you must be equipped for cock and snatching”

  41. Robert in S. Kensington 10 Mar 2012, 12:21pm

And the roman catholic clergy wonder why there is so much anti-catholic sentiment. Given it’s history of misogyny, paedophilia and oppression, subjugation of native tribes in Latin America (remember the Conquistadores supported by the church?), the Inquisition in Spain and abominable treatment of Jews and Muslims, it’s hardly in a position to make moral pronouncements or judge others. In summation, a thoroughly and morally bankrupt organisation that has no place in a modern civilised society.

    1. Can everybody please ignore and not respond to the poster Poo etc. It is just promoting his mental illness and I am asking everyone to adopt a policy of ignoring individuals who are homophobic and have religous mania such as Poo and Keith etc. It’s a bit like putting a very distruptive child on the naughty step and ignoring them until they learn to behave. So Poo etc on the naughty step / chair and let’s now ignore them?

How many times have we said on these pages that we are not opposed to straight marriages – we simply want equality. Listening to this Pope banging on about homosexuality all the time is getting tiresome. The last Pope, John Paul II also saw homosexuality as a sin but at least he did not obsess himself with the subject.

  45. Then here’s a hint – ban divorce. Done.

    A homosexualite buggerer says…
My experience of investigating child sex abuse when in the police was that there were more female victims than male.
So you statement about what I know (with you demented inflection on my name) is wrong, but then so is almost everything you say.

    My reply
Females are homosexual too don’t you know?

    1. Indeed females are homosexual too.

The crimes I investigated where the victims of sexual abuse were children – the victims were predominantly female with the prepetrators predominantly adult men.

So if you categorise child sex perpetrators on direct orientation basis (for the offence) then my experience is that the vast majority of child abusers are heterosexual.

However, ask any reputable forensice psychologist or criminologist and they will explain to you that (as with those perpetrating sexual assaults on adults) orientation is not important to a sex offender (in most cases), it is more about power, humiliation, degrading someone and control. Thus an offender who normally identifies as homosexual and is male could sexually assault a female, equally a heterosexual male could also sexually assault a male. Its about power and control.

    2. You have a low IQ plus a mental illness with an obsession with all things gay, but not in a nice way. Please get help, your religious mania coupled with the above is seriously worrying. You really must get help. You are such a sad case and you are not at all well in your mind. You poor thing I am so sorry for you.

late comment, but ‘“powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage” makes me laugh. thats vatican spin for ‘most of the population and their leaders of varying political inclinations many of whom may even call themselves catholic’.

As a gay man and as a gay catholic I have problems with Stonewall’s Draft Marriage Bill

I think they have deliberately chosen words and phrases to assist me as part of a minority that will offend the majority.

I believe Stonewall who have done and who do great work have chosen to upset the majority by removing Husband & Wife by amendments completely from the marriage bill. ( see )

Extension of Marriage to Same-Sex Couples Bill 2012 [HC] a husband and wife” substitute “parties to a marriage”.

For those who have been married and see it as an institution, and as Husband & Wife are part of the worlds accepted married status I feel it will create far too much upset to achieve marriage rights for gay people by removing the majority’s right to continue to be called Husband & Wife.

Stonewall should achieve equal marriage rights without upsetting the majority.

It is issues like this that gets people to believe we are going too far when we denigrate others rights to achieve our own right
