  1. So, cardinal, do you feel good about being associated with the likes of Mugabe?

  2. With friends like that, who needs enemies …

I’m sure the Cardinal is proud that Mugabes “free” press supports him. I’m sure he is keen to be associated with the regime in Zimbabwe.

    1. Mugabe’s free press… along with Cardinal O’Brian are wonderful little BASTions of democracy, aren’t they? Or something beginning with “bast” anyhow.
I like how “reactionary bigot” can be spun to mean “progressive mind”… just shows the type of doublethink we’re dealing with.

      1. @flapjack

        Exactly!

They certainly seem to share some backward views and both seek to encourage the promotion of human rights abuses.

I like how they call those standing up to them “militants”. Well, being militant can mean being progressive, supporting social change and social good and being intransigent when it comes to supporting fairness, and the ensuring of human rights.

In their case their reactionary bigotry is militancy of belligerence and bellicose subversiveness that seeks to trample and destroy the rights of others.

They belong together Mugabe and the Cardinal.

  3. Perhaps you’d be better off fighting the sorts of injustice that occur in in Zimbabwe, or campaigning against poverty or something else which really should matter to a Christian’s sense of love for all, rather than worrying about whether it’s okay for couples of whatever gender who love each other to want to mark that in a ceremony which is regulated by government and law and has nothing to do with your silly take on religion.

    *and breathe*

  4. Ha Ha!! What a great recommendation and how apt.

Wonder if this gets a mention in the Telegraph. Don’t hold your breath.

  5. Excellent.

All they need now is President Assad of Syria and Muhamadinnerjacket of Iran and they will have the set.

    1. BRILLIANT comment Socrates!

    2. Please do not write “Muhamadinnerjacket” – this prejudice lowers our cause.

      1. Agree with Chris. Making fun out of foreign names undermines your point a bit.

      2. It genuinely IS the only way I can pronounce his name, however point taken.

It’s a bit like Baroness Thatcher speaking out in favour of marriage equality, it’s the kind of support you don’t really want. Support from Zimbabwe…….how very, very embarrassing!

Bogus names discovered on petition that attacked gay marriage
    http://tinyurl.com/7tgasqe

And now we have names that should not be on the ‘Coalition for Marriage’ petition and 10,000 signatures in one day and yet only 300 hit’s in that same day!

    Dose anyone smell a rat?

    1. Of course. And it wouldn’t surprise me enough that they were such simple-minded morons that they don’t understand that the internet is remarkably transparent if you know how to use it.

      1. Craig Denney 7 Mar 2012, 12:21pm

Yes once you have their IP address you could hack into there site and find out how they are cheating and I’d love to know how to do hacking but I don’t.

    2. Is there a mainstream media outlet that will run with this? The guardian?

      1. Craig Denney 7 Mar 2012, 5:37pm

Funny isn’t it? When the religionists want a story in the Press, the Press are falling over themselves to do it for them. But when gays want a story it’s much harder. I think they call it xenophobia.

  8. This is the best sort of publicity, from our point of view, the dear Cardinal could get. It couldn’t have happened to a better person.

  9. I hope the Cardinal will take note of the company he is in and experience an epiphany.

  10. Ahhhhh Cardinal O’Brian & Mr Mugabe…a marriage made in heaven!!!

  11. It can at least be said for the Zimbabwe government that they have just as much rights as an Irish clergyman in Scotland to tell ministers what reforms to make to the law of England & Wales …

  12. Birds of a feather…

  13. Oh that’s just perfect. I really hope the UK papers publish this before Sunday’s Vatican Diktat.

    :-)

    1. Most won’t, though maybe the Gaurdian and Independant will, Oh and maybe the Times?

  14. He looks so dodgy. If eyes are the window to the soul he’s hiding something

  15. No different from Warsi’s recent statements in which she (as a Muslim) would rather align with a traditional enemy (Christianity) than offer protection and equality to her fellow citizens. Nothing unites bigots more effective than a shared bigotry.

  16. Zimbabwe state media?

    Is it even literate.

How nice for that evil maniac Cardinal O’Brien to realise that he belongs in a backward hellhole like Zimbabwe.

  17. A broken clock is right twice a day.

    1. And wrong for the rest of the day.

    2. David Waite 7 Mar 2012, 6:19pm

A broken mind is never right. If you were merely a broken clock you’d be right 730 (or 732) more times a year.

      1. Even so, the broken clock is much more wrong than right!

The broken mind is never right.

Mugabe and the Cardinal have broken minds

  18. This from a country where a few days ago thousands of people rioted because they believed an unidentifed woman had cast a spell on a child at school turning him into a snake. This is what religion makes people believe.

  19. This is proof they are joining forces with the devil.

  20. well, that puts it in perspective. dictatorship with appalling human rights record supports cardinal

  21. Is this all they can muster in support? A dictatorship state with draconian laws?

The catholic church must be desperate.

  22. Nutjobsareeverywhere 7 Mar 2012, 5:42pm

    Send him over there !!

  23. GingerlyColors 7 Mar 2012, 5:55pm

Since when did Zimbabwe have jurisdiction on Scottish affairs? I can just see it, Scottish independance. Land being seized off English landowners as revenge for the Clearances in the 1840’s, ballot-rigging, a rantinc lunatic as prime minister, the Scottish pound becoming worthless and the US$ becoming the de facto currency, food shortages, government debt, and Scotland going cap-in-hand to the hated English for foreigh aid.

  24. Well of course they would back a non-thinking religious being!

Just a reactionary reply to curry favour with equally abhorrent persons like Mugabe!

  25. What Mugabe is supporting the Cardinal! That says it all.

  26. soapbubblequeen 15 Mar 2012, 7:07pm

I would dearly love to smash his face in with a red hot incense burner.

  27. K. Simpson 27 May 2012, 9:26pm

Methinks O’Brien has hios eye on St. Peter’s chair in the not too distant future..
    That’s what me thinks…!
    Keith.
