Footballer Federico Macheda has been fined £15,000 by the FA for an anti-gay tweet.

The Manchester United player is on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Macheda had been charged alongside Nile Ranger, a forward for Newcastle and Walsall’s Manny Smith who were fined last week.

The 20-year-old striker’s result was delayed as he had requested a personal hearing, the FA said.

An FA statement read: “Federico Macheda has been fined £15,000 and warned as to his future conduct after he admitted use of an abusive and/or insulting word including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation.”

The content of the tweets sent by Macheda, Ranger and Smith is unknown but West Ham’s Ravel Morrison was fined £7,000 for a tweet which read: “Crack head? Go suck out u little faggot your a guy that talks if u see me you try slap me I’m in manchester every week.”

Macheda announced on Twitter on Saturday he would be deleting his account, which has 200,000 followers.
