  1. Can we all vote on who we think Widdy should marry?

    1. Good luck with finding anyone who would want to marry her!

      1. biggins might if you gave him enough money

    2. The irony is, all her friends will be gay, no self-respecting straight would put up with that heap of sh**.

      1. Seriously mate?!

    3. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 29 Feb 2012, 7:34pm

      She’s married to Je$u$…

    4. Singapore Sam 1 Mar 2012, 1:16am

People like her who have no intention of ever getting married should just butt out, it’s none of their business.

    5. soapbubblequeen 1 Mar 2012, 5:36pm

Craig Revel Whorewould. Craig would give her a right seeing to!

  2. Do people still listen to this mad old cow??

    1. TV Execs apparently. I recall an advert that she is to host a quiz show soon. I’m sure it will be a huge success, not least because of her not screeching, calm and reassuring voice.

      1. Found it!, She’s the quiz master, on a show on Sky Atlantic, called Cleverdicks. No doubt it will be a huge success!?

        1. Singapore Sam 1 Mar 2012, 1:11am

          Shall we vote on it?

    2. Normally I’d take the immature route and say someone this bigoted and old is a relic. Wait, whom I kidding, all this jumping up and down screaming and crying as she’s dragged into the 21st century might make her break a hip, so stop struggling you relic.

  3. Whilst I do not think we have anything to fear from a referendum, human rights should not be determined by referendum nor is it the way we decide policy in the UK.

How many times has Widdecombe said refernda are not the appropriate manner to decide events, now that she doesnt like Tory (and government policy) she wants one …. odd that!

    1. Exactly . . . what a hypocritical thing for Ms Widdecombe to say in light of her previous views on referendums

    2. Singapore Sam 1 Mar 2012, 1:13am

Well she makes it clear she only wants one as she believes it would fail. She would not be in favour of one if she thought it would succeed. What a woman of principal! Not.

  4. Kimiko Kotani 29 Feb 2012, 4:17pm

How would gay marriage redefine marriage for everyone else?! It’s not going to make het marriage illegal.

  5. Dr Robin Guthrie 29 Feb 2012, 4:20pm

Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).

    1. Excellent comment.

    2. I second that as well

  6. The ban on same-sex marriage is actually a ban on religious freedoms. There a number of religions in this country who support equal marriage and by keeping it illegal it is curtailing religious freedom.

It amazes me that the “religion is under attack” brigade seem to be the same ones supporting this ban on religious expression.

  7. Listen Ann, that’s what elections are for, so MPs can make laws on our behalf and most of them support same sex marriage as it is. If we had referendums on absolutely everything, imagine the fatigue and the cost! Let’s face it you’re a bigot trying to stifle progress with any desperate measure you can. By the way, didn’t you retire?

    1. Is it right to call someone a bigot just because you don’t agree with their views? Doesn’t that make you one as well? That one keeps coming back to me. And what is ‘progress’? I seem to remember that Stalin and Hitler had their own ideas – they didn’t work out too well for us minorities, either.

      1. @Dolly

If you are trying to imply that ensuring human rights is not progress and that treating LGBT people as second class citizens is acceptable, then you are also a bigot!

Human rights are not something you can choose to apply to just yourself or some people, they are everyones right – inate. Of course, people who do not respect other human beings will try and use draconian powers to denegrate others.

Throwing out Godwins law doesn’t wash either …

      2. Is it right to call someone a bigot?

        Yes.

When they selectively pick a group of people and marginalise them or make inflammatory comments which can have a negative impact on their lives you are being a bigot.

  8. civil partnership is not equal to marriage, a married couple has more rights in the event of a tragic situation than a civil partnership. I call a civil partnership a marriage because, essentially, whatever the politicians want to call it on paper that is what it should be. I don’t care about the religious part, I am not religious. To ‘tie the knot’ came from the pagan tradition of binding a couples wrists together during the ceremony to signify their commitment to each other – and that could be renewed every few years – or not – and that was that. I do not want to be a 2nd class citiven and not have the same legal rights as my friends and neighbours. Women can vote, slaves were freed, gay men and women want the same rights and freedoms afforded to everyone else. thanks

  9. Also no matter what mad old cow wants, I’m sure that gay marriage is an inevitability even if not under the coalition. Things have been consistently moving forward with only the smallest of setbacks, the question for gay marriage isn’t ‘will we get it?’ its ‘when will we get it?’.

  10. Would women have received the vote if it was left to a referendum? You don’t have a referendum on people’s rights.

    1. I’m not sure Widdy is concerned with women’s rights. Remember she jumped over to the Catholic Church as soon as the CoE permitted women reverends.

  11. Here are a few quotes from Widdecombe:

“THE party leaders were right to oppose a referendum on Europe.”

“”Unless you have a referendum on every single issue you cannot know whether you are representing the majority of your constituents or not, and to be honest is that realistic”

    1. She’s making an exception to her rule just especcially for gay issues, how consistently inconsistent whenever it suits her purposes. Widdicombe has been a stranger to reality for many years now.

      1. How consistently inconsistent indeed!!!

  12. Siklly old closet case. They say misery loves company and she want’s everyone to live a life as unfulfilled as hers

    1. I think she’s probably asexual, never had any want for sex. I have an aunt like her, constantly complaining about sex on tv, ‘filthy’ chat shows like Alan Carr, “Get that off” she screams! Like that since she was 20 my mum says.

      1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 29 Feb 2012, 7:36pm

        Bet her hand hurts.

      2. Singapore Sam 1 Mar 2012, 1:18am

        Repressed nympho more likely.

      3. I don’t think asexual people complain about others sex lives. Cause they don’t care. More likely that Widdy has profound sexual desires she doesn’t like that make her feel dirty, so she makes everyone else feel dirty, and takes her anxiety out on others by making them into the scapegoat, which makes her feel clean.

        1. I don’t think asexual people complain about others sex lives

I think you’re spot on there.

  13. Would it fail for bitter old spinsters like herself too?

  14. I can’t help feeling that having her on the opposing side is helping us win. The more past-their-sellby-date reactionary old bigots line up against us, the better. Bring it on!!

    1. The thought has occurred to me before, although some of the extreme fundamentalist Christian websites seem to clamour for her comments … perhaps just proves how out of touch they are.

  15. Made my comment on the news/toilet paper.

“Would women have ever had the right to vote if it were left to a public referendum of men to decide it? Would the american state-sanctioned segregation of African-Americans have ever ended if left to a public referendum?

You do what is right not what is popular.

There are also far more important things to be worrying about. Rather than carrying on about gay marriage (which will have no effect on anyone’s life but the happy couple) why don’t you look into solving the budget, crime and the other real issues out there.”

  16. Yet more Christian propaganda. It is true that the Christian religion in the west is responsible for stopping gay marriage in the western world. It has been proven in America that the Catholic Church as well as Mormons and Evangelicals are spending millions of dollars now to stop gays marriage and the gay agenda as they call it. There records to prove this and there are many Christian hate groups who are given this money to push the hate and stop LGBT people who love each other from getting married. Google the Southern Poverty Law Center to see a list of these Christian hate groups in America.

    1. We hardly need proof! They tell us they’re doing it!

    2. And yet right here at PN just a couple of weeks ago it was revealed that a healthy majority, 61%, of Christians in the UK supported gay marriage. Governments would love a majority that size! I don’t think that the UK is directly comparable to the USA where, anyway, individual states are gradually introducing gay marriage despite what the fundamentalist so-called Christians are saying.

  17. So, we have the statement…

“While many of the most prominent Coalition for Marriage backers are Church figures, it told PinkNews.co.uk today it had no religious affiliation.”

Whilst it may not have an ‘affiliation’ as suchwe have some interesting facts.

C4M website has a registered address of:

5 Park Road, Gosforth Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8DG

which just happens to be adjacent to to this one:

    CHRISTIAN INSTITUTE
CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE IN A SECULAR WORLD
    Wilberforce House
    4 Park Road
    Gosforth Business Park
    Newcastle upon Tyne
    NE12 8DG

    but wait… there’s more…

A quick scan at the directors list at:

    http://bizzy.co.uk/uk/07880604/coalition-for-marriage has:

    Ms A.R. Minichiello appointed 16 Jan 2012

Appears that Mrs has gone to Ms and Williams has been dropped. Similar to her twitter id of: A_Minichiello

If this is the same Andrea Williams as linked to the Christian Legal Centre this brings us neatly back to the real real reason behind the petition…

    1. Even more interesting check out this website

      http://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/coalition-for-marriage

which gives the company registered address for the Coalition for Marriage as:
      WILBERFORCE HOUSE 4 PARK ROAD
      GOSFORTH BUSINESS PARK
      NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
      TYNE AND WEAR
      NE12 8DG

Note that is number 4 not number 5. So the registered address of the Coalition for marriage is identical to that of the Christian Institute.

So the Christian Institute and Campaign for Marriage are engaging in lies and duplicity…. what a surprise!

      1. Also if you check out the C4M London address (8 Marshalsea Road, London SE1 1HL) they are in the same building as the Christian Medical Fellowship, Lawyers Christian Fellowship and an extreme sounding organisation called Care Not Killing …

The website for C4M is registered to Jon Errington who also crops up repeatedly with the Christian Institute. Surprise, surprise!

One of the directors of C4M is Don Horrocks who happens to be head of public affairs at the Evangelical Alliance. He was quoted as follows in The Guardian in May 2006 “But Don Horrocks, head of public affairs at the Evangelical Alliance, said allowing same-sex couples to marry would set a dangerous precedent. ‘Where does it stop?’ Horrocks asked. ‘Soon there will be people wanting to marry their horse or perhaps three or four people all want to get married. If the word marriage is going to be infinitely plastic it loses all meaning.'”

The campaign director for C4M is Colin Hart who is a director of the CI.

        1. One of the other directors of C4M is named as Samuel Stephen Webster. Coincidentally one of the solicitor advocates who has acted for the Christian Institute is called Sam Webster.

Another of the directors Nola Margaret Leach is also a director of Care Not Killing (note the repeat). This organisation seeks to oppose euthanasia on the grounds of faith. Nola Leach is chief executive of CARE (the extreme Christian organisation discussed many times on PN).

Another director is Andrea Rose Williams Minichiello (director of University and Colleges Christian Fellowship and Christian Legal Centre) and a barrister and Christian lobbyist.

Another director is Norman James Wells who is also a director of the Home Education Advisory Service (that is well known for its extreme Christian Fundamentalism).

          Here:
          http://www.christian.org.uk/news/coalition-for-marriage-launched/
The Christian Institute name Colin Hart (Director of the CI) as Chairman of C4M, so of course no link at all!

          1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 1 Mar 2012, 8:02pm

Brilliant comment, Stu. I did a wee search for this Colin Hart bloke as I was interested to see he had a PGCE (Postgrad Cert in Education), it seems that the christian institute were lobbying the Scottish Executive (now Scottish government, of course) for the right of parents to continue smacking their children… Always handy to know that the goodie-goodies christians like a form of child abuse! Know your enemy indeed! Hope PN does an expose soon.

          2. @Mr Ripleys Asscrack

Thanks. I have emailled PN the full details of everything I have found so far.

They have said they are also conducting their own research and thanked me for my input.

So, watch this space I hope …

      2. Well spotted Stu,

…and the address that was on the Coalition for Marriage website looks like it’s been changed within the last few hours to this one:

        C4M, 8 Marshalsea Road, London SE1 1HL

as already spotted by another reader.

and the blog below is excellent:

        http://mediafrenzyuk.blogspot.com/2012/02/truth-about-coalition-for-marriage.html

    2. Please PN can you run an article exposing this. Most of the donkey work doing research has already been done for you!

      1. Mumbo Jumbo 29 Feb 2012, 7:11pm

        I second that.

        1. I triple that

          1. Dr Robin Guthrie 29 Feb 2012, 9:09pm

            I quad….. err. 4th that.

      2. Mumbo Jumbo 29 Feb 2012, 7:17pm

Alternatively, you could contact Joan Smith or Nick Cohen at the Independent or Polly Toynbee or Riazat Butt at the Grauniad. Pink News can then just re-write it as is normal.

      3. This blog might help:

        http://mediafrenzyuk.blogspot.com/2012/02/truth-about-coalition-for-marriage.html

Might forward it to Nick Cohen as suggested!

        1. Have been doing some more research will post to the blog shortly

          1. More interesting information on this continuation from the blog above:

            http://mediafrenzyuk.blogspot.com/2012/03/more-truth-about-coalition-for-marriage.html

    3. Singapore Sam 1 Mar 2012, 1:24am

This woman has more hats than a milliner. Check out “Christian Concern” too.

I was thinking of getting a dog and calling it the Agnostic Research Council.

    4. Excellent deductions, @Martyn and @Stu. If you haven’t already, please make your findings know to PinkNews via the ‘News Tips’ email, or contact the editor directly. Stories can oft-times be overlooked in the comments section unless brought to the immediate attention of news staff. And THIS, I think we can all agree, needs investigating.

At present time, the Coalition For marriage has (incredulously) amassed just under 70,000 signitures. A hate campaign now clearly orchestrated by the Christian Legal Centre, as right minded people in their thousands surely don’t spend their time essentially trying to undermine the rights of fellow human beings.

Let’s see this campaign for what it really is – gay-bashing by popular vote. To Christians, relationships and “marriage” are indivisible – as in, one is the inevitable, ‘natural’ conclusion to the other, so the motivation behind this campaign is obvious.

      1. (Cont’d) …And, as we all know, the bible condemns homosexuality.

        1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 1 Mar 2012, 7:56pm

Actually it doesn’t. The word for homosexual used in the original greek was ‘malakoi’ which actually means soft as in a material, it is a non-sexual word, and probably the levitical law meant to say being morally weak is an abomination. Makes sense now dunnit.

      2. Have informed PN and they have thanked me for the information – so hopefully an article soon.

        1. Thanks, Stu. Much appreciated.

  18. Marcel Wiel 29 Feb 2012, 4:53pm

G-d in the sky, I am so fed up of barmy old bigots like her thinking they can take a pop at us whenever the mood takes them.
I can’t think of anyone I’d rather moon.

  19. As those eligible to marry has already been redefined since 2001 to enable same sex couples to marry in 10 countries already and another 10 countries with proposals in place to introduce marriage equality, the bogus claim that there is to be some new redefinition of marriage can only be viewed as absurd and not reflected in reality, marriage is already no longer defined as being exclusively available to one man and one woman but is now in an increasing number of countries access to marriage is now inclusive of same sex couples.

More anti-gay nonsense from the virginal Doris Karloff (aka Ann Widdecombe) UK’s self appointed cultural attache to the Vatican.

  20. Widdecombe is an ex-Anglican according to Wikipedia. Yet she goes on about how it’s wrong to ‘re-define marriage’. THE ANGLICAN CHURCH WAS FOUNDED BECAUSE…oh, never mind.

  21. can anyone writing for daily express be taken seriously.

  22. Christopher Biggins does not speak for the gay community at large! Every single person I know, both gay and straight want equal marriage rights.

Maybe old Widders & Biggers shoiuld bugger off to an island somewhere together?

  23. Oh and PN you’re a bit slow on the uptake of this story today!

  24. Isn’t the dried-up old hag dead yet?

    1. No, Thatcher is still very mu…. Oooooops, yes sorry Widdy is still alive.

  25. Just the infantile ramblings of a crusty old crow who never married and lived with her mother her whole life…. As if she knows anything other than her putrid bloody fairy stories. She is free to believe in whatever asinine cr@p she wants, she just doesn’t get to force the rest of us to do it to. When will the bloody christofascists ever learn?

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Feb 2012, 6:04pm

They never learn because 1) they have devolved brains and 2) they’re incapable of discerning between religious and civil.

      1. I know. It was more of a lament, to be honest. As Dr Gregory House said “if you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people.” (And his word is as good as any other fictional entity…god, for example).

        1. Groan lol

  26. An unmarried virgin wanting a referendum on marriage?

    Haha.

F*** off you crazy old bat.

  27. There can be no masters anywhere, there just must be civilized citizens working together in peace strides with on anothers famiilies to help promote civilization and humnity, and sanity, and stabalization, by showing to each other they can go about their buisness gracefull in courtesy of others and respect not corruption and terrorism, but ordinary people not uppity an pioused people who like to abuse others because of their arragance and greed to do evil and harm others, regardless of what you have or not your blood is still the same color, and your make up under your skin is too, your pain feels basicly the same and all need a physician if shot in the ass, and most would not care who took them to the hospital to save their wretched lives, gay or colored, their bigoted asses would just want you to get them their , did you watch DRIVING MISS DAISY, A PRETTY MUCH BIGOTED FAMILY TRYING TO HIDE IT IN SUTTLE WAYS WHILE PRETENDING TO BE PROPER, BUT SMUGLLY UGLY AND HURTFUL IN A SNEAKY WAY

    1. Quick! Nurse!!!!

  28. A well thought out, poigniant, balanced, sensible comment that I could have contributed has unfortunaely been overshadowed by this: Go fck yourself you virgin witch.”

    1. @pc: please don’t use ‘witch’ as a perjorative. It’s no better than using ‘gay’ or ‘lezzer’ or ‘trannie’ as a pejorative. It’s misogynist and you should know better. And I’m a witch and proud of it.

      1. oops…………males are witches too by the way

  29. tHE OLD RACIST WOMEN IN DRIVING MISS DAISY AS I SAID BEING UGLY AND TACKLESS AND RACIAL ARRAGANT AND SMUG, IN MAKING OTHERS FEEL LESS THAN THEMSELVES, COMES OUT IN A TRUE STORY ABOUT HOW RACIST REALLY ARE, THEY ARE ARRAGANT AND SMUG, UNTIL SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO THEM AND THEIR OWN RICH OR UPPITY FAMILIY LIKE MURDOCK, AND OTHERS, THEY ASKED A GROUP OF MIILLIONAIRS, HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW THAT YOU ARE POOR BECAUSE OF MURDOCK, HOWEVER, WILL YOU DEAL WITH THE FOODSTAMP LINE, AND MY OH MY CAN YOU BEAR TO BE YOUR OWN MAID AGAIN AND CLEAN YOUR OWN DIRTY DISHES THAT YOU USED TO ANYWAY. SO THE OLD BIGOTED WOMAN IN DRIVING MISS DAISY, SHE FOUND OUT THAT THE ONLY ONE WHO REALLY GAVE A DAMN ABOUT HER BESIDES HER REAL SON , WAS, THE SAME COLORED MAN THAT THEY SEEN AS SECOND CLASS BECAUSE HE WAS COLORED AND HAD MISTREATED IN WHAT THEY CALLED A NICE AND SUTTLE WAY , GAVE HER TO KNOW WHO SHE REALLY WAS IN THE IN , WHICH WAS NOBODY, UNLESS YOU LOVE AND TREAT OTHERS PROPER, MISSING OUT ON HUMANITY

  30. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Feb 2012, 5:58pm

Dream on, Widdecombe. Not going to happen. What a pathetically sad old boot always getting her knickers in a twist, or maybe bloomers.

I wish someone would shut this old cow up once and for all. She clearly doesn’t understand the political system of her own country. We in the UK don’t subject civil issues to referenda or mob rule of a minority. it’s not going to happen and I suggest she leave the Tory party once and for all and join the BNP or join a nunnery, she’s ugly enough.

  31. HELL NO, YOU DONT NEED TO VOTE ON WETHER TO TREAT OTHERS FAIR, AND EQUAL, THAT IS INDEED A STUMBLING STAGNATION TO DOING WHAT YOU KNOW TO DO ALREADY AND THAT IS TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED AND THAT IS RIGHT AND FAIR, EQUALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS JUST IS THE ONLY RIGHT PLATFORM AND FOUNDATION THAT EVERYTHING MUST BE FOUNDED ON, WITHOUT IT YOU ARE NOT EVEN HUMAN, YOU CANNOT TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT IF FIRST YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT OTHERS, ALL OTHERS, THEIR FAMILIES, THEIR CHILDREN, I WROTE A SHORT STORY ABOUT COLOR ME HUMAN, NO GENDER OR COLOR JUST TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT HUMANE, DECENT FAIR, EQUAL, THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD IF THESE PLATFORMS WHERE ALREADY IN PLACE LIKE THEY SHOULD BE, YOU VIOLATED WOMEN VOICE IN THE PAST HISTORY AND MINORITES IN MANY WAYS ALOT OF THOSE WRONGFUL LAWS HAD TO BE OVERTURNED, AND STILL HERE WE ARE A DISGRACE AND DISTASTEFUL NATION OF INHUMANE HETERSEXUAL PEOPLE WHO CANNOT LIVE THIER OWN PERSONAL LIVES WITHOUT BOTHERING OTHER PEOPLE,

    1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 29 Feb 2012, 7:41pm

      … and… rest.

      1. Lmfao!!

  32. So what happened to all that old-fashioned prinicipled Tory dislike of referenda as undermining the sovereignty of Queen in Parliament?
Hypocritical old witch. And has everyone noticed that every advance in our rights will bring the sky crashing down? A bit like the Duke of Wellington saying that the 1832 Reform Act (which increased the electorate from about 3% to about 10% of the population) would ‘destroy English Gentlemen’. Some bloody hope.

  33. Chris Tucker 29 Feb 2012, 6:05pm

Who does she think she is?! Claims to be a cancelled”politician” whilst appearing on reality TV, hosting tv shows and being all round c**t. Why doesn’t she just sit on her Z list Celebrity fat arse and keep quiet. Thank you.

  34. So one group of adults is to vote on whether or not another group of consenting adults can marry? Is that the Plan Ann? And to add to the unfairness we are not even talking about religious weddings, just civil weddings?

Ms. Widdecombe, should we have a vote on whether or not people should be allowed to have secular funerals? You would if you could get away with it wouldn’t you?

  35. So what if she knows gays who don’t support marriage equality? There were women who didn’t support suffrage and black people who didn’t support integration. There were even black people who didn’t support emancipation. ALL minorities, have their own “Uncle Toms” who are usually desperate to fit in and are willing to blame their oppression on their own natural, innate characteristics rather than upon the bigots who use these characteristics as an excuse to oppress them, discriminate against them and exclude them. People like Widdecombe will always be able to find a couple of Uncle Toms to point to as evidence that they aren’t bigots because people within the oppressed minority share their view and Uncle Toms will always be available and willing to provide cover for them.

  36. I never thought I’d type these words: I agree with Ann Widdecombe.

    Wow, that feels odd!

BUT, my reasoning is 180 degrees away from hers. I’m firmly convinced that the Christian loonies she represents would be astounded to find themselves massively out-voted and without a leg to stand on.

    1. I agree the campaign for equal marriage would win a referendum

That doesnt mean there should be one.

Having a referendum on human rights and rights for minorities sets a very dangerous precedent.

      1. I think I should clarify my post above.

I meant that the desire to have equal marriage would win!

      2. Stu

Yes, mate, I’m with you on that point. I should have phrased my comment fractionally differently.

  37. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Feb 2012, 6:14pm

She knows gays who oppose marriage equality? who can’t be homophobic? Really? Has she heard of self-loathers? I bet you anything if she does happen to know just one gay opponent, he or she is probably a religious nuuter like her. Always amazes me when the bigots start their tirades the also bring up…”I have gay friends, or I know gay people” who oppose this or that”. So transparent. She’s delusional.

  38. NOW LADY GAGA AND HER MOTHER ARE DOING A GREAT THING FOR TAKING ACTION IN SCHOOLS, THIS IS WHAT IS NEEDED , WE NEED ACTORS AND ACTRESSES AND SONGWRITERS, AND PRODUCERS , TO DO SOMETHING ALONG WITH TALKI SHOW HOST ABOUT THE ATROCITIES, IN THIS NATION MAINLY DO TO RACISM AND BIGOTRY, MOST OF THE ACTRESSES HAS BAD MARRIAGES , AND HAVE BEEN ABUSED, GET YOUR ASSES UP AN OPEN DOMETIC ABUSE CENTERS FOR WOMEN FUND THEM AND PUT YOUR NAMES AND FACES ON THEM , DO SOMETHING THAT TEACHES AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OF WOMEN AND FAMILY, ELLEN , AND ROSIE SHOULD BE TEAMING UP WITH ALL GAY HOLLY WOOD, AND SPORTS PEOPLE OPEINING TEEN SHELTERS AND TEEN CENTERS AND LGBT CENTERS JUST LIKE CHELY WRIGHT IN KANSAS, GET OFF YOUR ASSES , THEIR IS NOTHING FUNNY GOING ON,
THEY ARE STILL FINDING BODIES OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NEWYORK BEACH, SOME IN NEW JERSY, MASSACRES EVERYWHERE, CHILDRENS NAMES AND FACES PASTED EVERYWHERE IN WALMART STORES, BECAUSE OF HETERSEXUAL PEDEPHILES, MORE KIDS IN SUICDES , WAKE UP!!!!

    1. Lower case, sentences, and paragraphs would help people to read your posts. Without them, you suggest you have taken no time over your post: and most people will not bother to read.

    2. Spanner1960 29 Feb 2012, 6:44pm

NURSE! She’s fallen out of bed again!

  39. “People who never go inside a church from one year to the next oppose it. ” So now they are associating marriage with going in a church? Does that therefore exclude Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and any other religion from claiming marriage if they don’t conduct it in a “church”?
When this lot realise that marriage is not an exclusive property belonging to the “Church”, they might recognise that having both opposite and same sex couples marrying actually increases the solidity of the “institution of marriage”.

  40. THE MAJORITY OF THE HETERSEXUAL RELIGIONS ARE JUST MAN MADE OCCULTS , BAD FRATERNITIES , HAZING , SEX CRIMES, ORGIES, RACISM , ABUSES GALORE, VERY FEW OF THEM ARE GOODWILL CHARITY EQUALITY VOICES, OF HUMANITY, THOSE ARE THE FEW THAT ARE HONORABLE, TH ESE ARE THE ONE WITH COMMON SENSE, THAT NEED TO HELP TEACH CHILDREN , TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER , AND THE OTHERS TOO, HUMANESS, YOU DONT ALLOW THUGS IN CROSSES AND ROBES TO BREED HATRED INTO YOUR FAMIIES , TURNING THEM INTO POLLUTED PEOPLE, OF TERRORISM, YOU LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO FORM A BETTER SOCIETY OF PEACE KEEPERS OF FARINESS AND HARMONY , CIVILIZED PEOPLE LIVING AMONG OTHERS, HETERSEXUAL BIGOTS, CAN STILL GET MARRIED , THEY CAN STILL GET MARRIED TO WHO EVERY LOVE THEM BACK AND IS AN ADULT , AGE APPROPRIATE, GAY MARRIAGES DO NOT AFFECT THESE PEOPLES LIVES IN ANY WAY, ITS SIMPLY NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS ABOUT THE GAY FAMILIES THEY ARE OBSSESED WITH , MAKING UP LIES, ABOUT THEIR REASONS AN CANT FIND IN JUSTIFIABLE

  41. Thinly disguised homophobia. In summary: gays can have all the legal rights with civil partnerships but don’t expect society to accept you with marriage.

  42. 45. it’s Leap Year. Keep away from Widdecome – who may propose!!!!!!!

  46. jamestoronto 29 Feb 2012, 6:53pm

Be careful what you wish for Anne. You will be opening up a Pandora’s Box which you and all your allies will wish had been kept shut. If a referendum on equal marriage were to be held, it will only be a very short while before many other issues will be put to a public vote.

    1. Are you in favour of retaining the unelected House of Lords?
    2. Are you in favour of allowing religious organisations being exempt from all taxes?
    3. Are you in favour of having all politicians’ salaries and perks subject to annual approval?

When you open that door, it is hard to close. You may soon have a lot of your allies wishing you had just shut up about the whole thing.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Feb 2012, 7:08pm

      4. Are you in favour of taxpayers not supporting faith-based schools, especially gay tax payers?

      5. Are you in favour of banning divorce, a very catholic thing you know, Anne?

      6. Are you in favour of banning birth control and abortion?

      7. Are you in favour of banning heterosexual couples marrying who choose not to or cannot procreate?

      8. Are you in favour of banning catholicism altogether since it’s a foreign import with allegiance to a foreign head of state which often meddles in the internal CIVIL affairs of the UK?

      1. She would probably word the question the way the Coalition for marriage worded their recent opinion poll:

“‘Please tell me the extent to which you agree or disagree with [this] statement about the definition of marriage… Since gay and lesbian couples already have the same rights as married couples available to them under civil partnership, they should not be allowed to redefine marriage for everyone else.’”

How loaded a question could they come up with?

  47. YOUR GOALS IS FOR A PEACEFUL CIVILIAZATIONS, NOT THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO DESTROY IT. AND CREATE TERRORISM AND ABUSES EVERYWHERE, THIS IS WHY IT IS PARAMOUNT THAT YOU CHOOSE AHEAD OF TIME GOOD OFFICALS AND JUDGES BEFORE YOU PUT THEM IN TO OFFICES, AND GOOD HUMAN RIGHTS PLATFORMS OF TEACHERS, EVERYONE MUST SIT ON THAY PLATFORM , IN ORDER TO BE FAIR , IN ORDER TO REALLY CARE AND IMPLEMNET ACCURATELY FOR ALL FAMIIEIS, WERE YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE ABUSING OTHERS AND NEGLECTING OTHERS, LIKE RACEST ABUSE MINORITIES AND WOMEN, AND LGBT, NEGLECT THEIR URBAN AREAS AN NEEDS IN THEIR DISTRICTS, THATS WHY THE DISTRICTS MUST OVERHAUL TO FAIR HUMAN RIGHTS, OFFICIALS ON BOARDS WITH MINORITIES INCLUDED FOR THEIR DISTRICTS, , GAY , SPANISH, AND OTHERS, ON BOARDS, SEEING TO IT, YOU ARE TAKING CARE OF THE MOST VITAL PROBLEMS WHICH ARE IN THE URBAN AREAS AND POOR AND MIDDLE CLASS AREAS, THEIR SCHOOLS , THE OVERCROWDING , THE HOMELESS, SHELTERS, THE ADDED GANG PATROLS DOMESTIC PROGRAMS AN AID

  48. IF YOU HAD THE RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE AND HUMAN RIGHTS PLATFORMS YOU WOULD NOT HAVE THE ABUSED CHIDREN IN SCHOOLS BY HATE GROUPS AD SOME OF THE FACULITY OF THE SCHOOLS AN ADMINSISTRATIONS COMMITING CRIMES AGAINST STUDENTS SEX CRIMES, AND HATE CRIMES HARRASSSING STUDENTS, IF THESE PEOPLE WHERE CHECKED BEFORE FOR THAT STABLE PLATFORM AND THEN HALLED INTO A CONFERENCE BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED BY UNDERCOVER POLICE OFFICES AND LOCAL POLICE OFFICERS, NOT ATTACHED AN FREINDS TO THE SCHOOL BUT THERE FOR THE CHILDREN AND OTHERS SAFE WATCH AGAINST VIOLENCE OF ANYKIND, FORM ANYONE INCLUDING FACULTY AND ADMISTRATION, TELLING THE PEOPLE WE WILL NOT STAND FOR YOU ABUSING ANY PARENTS CHILDREN IN ANYWAY, YOUR PERSONAL RELIGIONS HAS NO PLACE IN THE FACE OF THESE CHIDLREN, YOU TEACH ACADEMICS, YOU SEE ALL OF THE CHIDLREN THE SAME, AND HELP AID SPECIAL TO THE SPECIAL ED, FOR LEARNING DISABILIETES M BUT YOUR CHARACTER OF KINDNESS AN COURTESY,MUST BE THE SAME LOVEING ATMOSPHERE TO ALL, NOT AS THUGS

and she lights up a cigar pushing her laptop away and chuckles to herself, says “I think I got my message across,” but little did she realise that readers just scroll down the comments page looking for an end to the screeds of uppercase text.

WHO CAN BE BOTHERED READING YOUR CAP-LOCKED COMMENTS, CARRIE!?

      1. Joking aside (and I did laugh), we shouldn’t criticise @carrie too harshly. This is, demonstrably, the end point of repression squeezed to breaking point, discrimination, and homo/transphobia.

This, ultimately, is what our enemies want (short of death). Mental torture gone unchecked. Men and women forced by the wayside by the so-called “moral majority”. Lost, lonely and ostracised, their only outlet is the internet forums.

A sorry state of affairs compounded by mad harridan Widdiecombe – and every other rancid bigot – demanding we go quietly into the night. I pity both @carrie and Ann Widdecombe, but for entirely different reasons. Only one genuinely needs protection from the other.

  49. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 29 Feb 2012, 7:59pm

Getting a bit fed up with the gays against religious practices debate. They must know they are losing badly on this issue. If religion does have a place in our society, it’s a church. It should just stay there – and only there. So let’s have a gay marriage ceremony in the registrars office with full benefits of the entitlement, the tax break, the pension, the everything the hetties are entitled to and call it quits. Love is blind and knows no god. Hate Anne Widemouth. Euch.

  50. de Villiers 29 Feb 2012, 10:03pm

Living in a democracy does not mean that everything must be decided by a popular vote. A vote weighs just one unit – no matter how seriously a person feels about something. It is for elected politicians to determine the weight for such matters, which the Coalition appears to be doing.

As for the referendum question about defining marriage for everyone else – the question seems rather dishonest. There is no re-definition of marriage in respect of heterosexual couples. It re-defines it in relation to homosexual couples. I fail to see how it re-defines marriage for everyone or alters it beyond a fundamental principle of it uniting two people together in a relationship of one.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 1 Mar 2012, 11:33am

Exacttly right, de Villiers . In fact, allowing same-sex couples to marry expands marriage to encompass everyone. In a democracy, rights are expanded not contracted. What boggles the mind is that Widdecombe is incapable as are all of the naysayers in descerning what is a religoius or civil matter. Many of us disagree with religion, many of us don’t believe, but we don’t call for referenda banning religion. If anything, Widdecome et al are anti-religion when they dismiss denominations that want to recognise and perform same-sex marriages.

  51. Well I think MPs should be supporting their party’s policy of marriage equaliy and should be working on the behalf of their constituents yet we have the likes of Dobbins, Bruce, Burrowes who have a total disregard of their constitutents and are voting entirely on religious grounds.

The coaltion for marriage is set up the usual gang opposed to LGBT rights and it’s been signed by the usual gang of Christians and homopboes.

Thank heavens we don’t rush into a referendum on all govt policies otherwise we’d get nowhere..

  52. I really like this article,Perhaps you would be interested in Ralph Lauren France Boutique

    1. “Perhaps”? Absolutely, you spam wh*re! Whilst fending off YET ANOTHER assault by religious fundamentalists who think we should be burnt at the stake, gays enjoy nothing more than a time-out browsing Ralph Lauren’s quality knitwear range – pimped by virtual pick-pockets who would have us believe gays have resigned ourselves not only to being bludgeoned to death by the bible, but to absolutely make sure we do it in style.

      Mmmm… Feel the quality!

  53. Is she smoking crack? The government that won’t give us a referendum over membership of the EU should have a referendum about changing the laws on marriage?

  54. When in the UK I asked my father “who’s Ann Widdcombe?” He replied “DON’T go there… just don’t you’ll make my back bristle!” I never asked again.

Reading about her on PN I under stand why he said it, boy oh boy she has every body’s back pricklier than a porcupine!”

“Excellent work by commentators here today! kudo’s for research well done!”

  55. We have a similar crazy woman in the US named Maggy Gallagher, who runs the virulently anti-marriage equality National Organization of Marriage. While she insists that children should be raised in married hetersexual households with both the mother and father present, she was a single mother. She deprived her own children of the very environment she insists has to exist to the exclusion of same-sex househeholds. Can you say “hyporcrite”?

  56. Nutjobsareeverywhere 1 Mar 2012, 7:30am

Did we have referendum for women being allowed into parliment or did you see this as your right Ann ?

  57. GingerlyColors 1 Mar 2012, 7:55am

Go ahead with the referendum, Widdy, you will find that your idea is going to backfire in your face because the British electorate know better. Widdecome Unfair to gays.

    1. tinmaninoz 1 Mar 2012, 8:58am

Is it possible to have an argument without it deteriorating into some mud-slinging exercise? it feels cheap to fight dirty. Just because the rest of them do it, why do we have to be like that? If we behave like second-class citizens, maybe we get what we deserve…

      1. Why don’t you ask Colin Hart of Andrea William Minichellio … they seem keen on the mud slinging …

or Ann Widdecombe for that matter …

See I call treating people as second calss citizens, dehumanising … and mud slinging certainly has potential to be dehumanising …

One does wonder if Colin Hart is human, he clearly has no emotional heart given his vile, immoral approach to the issue.

  59. Hypocrisexual:

    homosexual+homophobic+hypocritical

    1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 1 Mar 2012, 6:27pm

      And your point is, caller?

  60. She and others like her are only getting their homophobic knickers in a state because they realised that the gay marriage aganda is on a non stop route to the finish! But why are they so affraid? How can for example my marriage to my same sex partner, alter of affect the marriage of two hetrosexuals?or vise versa. Just what does it affect? Nothing! Because marriage like religion or any other belief, is about the personal relationship with that partner/faith/whatever and nothing else. It has nothing to do with anyone else and never will have. This ‘fundemental change to society’ crap is a total red herring to stir the homophobes into some sort of action. Desparate homophobia in action!

  61. tinmaninoz 1 Mar 2012, 9:06am

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the reason you had to have witnesses was precisely because marriage is NOT a private or personal matter, otherwise you might as well do it by candlelight in your garage with just the cat for company.

Plus, if being married doesn’t affect anything, why bother doing it at all? You could just keep on living together.

Can’t help asking, it’s what others are saying…

    1. Here’s me correcting you because you’re wrong. Have a nice day bigot!

      1. tinmaninoz 1 Mar 2012, 9:29pm

Sorry, am I wrong about the reason for needing witnesses or wrong because of something else?

  62. She’s a dried up, out of touch old windbag, much like Carey.

  63. Dear Ms Widdecombe

I would like to clarify something you seem to not understand about the Words “Freedom of Religion” and “Minority Protection”. Please look them up or call you lawyer to inform yourself abou these words. Just because a majority is for or against something doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do nor is Religion good enough reason to allow or withhold equality from anyone. We cut Religion so much slack in todays society which it does not deserve as so often it calls for discriminatory acts against a variety of minorities, including gays, single parents or members of other Religions. Let us stop biggotry and allow the people to live their live the way they choose not how you prefer them to have it.

    Best Regards

    Mat

Posters to this list can huff and puff all they like as well as make insulting comments about Ms Widdecombe but the fact is that she is a Roman Catholic convert who adheres strictly to the Catholic Catechism on homosexuality and that says it all.

    1. So what, Its not going to get her very far is it.

  65. Just found this out about the old c**t –

She has never married nor had any children. In November 2007 on BBC Radio 4 she described how a journalist once produced a profile on her with the assumption that she had had at least “one sexual relationship”, to which Widdecombe replied: “Be careful, that’s the way you get sued”. When interviewer Jenni Murray asked if she had ever had a sexual relationship, Widdecombe laughed “it’s nobody else’s business”. – So how come this vile old bitch can rant on about other peoples pvt existance like we were cattle.

Can she not be arrested for stirring up hatred? She isn’t even an MP anymore!

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 1 Mar 2012, 12:31pm

She’s probably one of those self-loathers, a closeted lesbian who hates herself so much she clings to a cult which has a long history of oppression and subjugation of women. Maybe she’s suffering from Stockholm Syndrome?

  66. What a stupid old bat. Most people forgot who she was years ago. Silly woman.

  67. I’ve got an idea- why don’t we repeal every single civil rights law in this country (equal pay, discrimination act, votes for women, etc.), and put them all down to a referendum where the majority of white, heterosexual middle-Englanders can decide which rights we shall afford which people? Sounds like the way forward, doesn’t it?

And anyway, I feel that Widdecombe is underestimating the tolerance of the British people. Recent polls have put support for gay marriage at around 60% (or over). And a lot of the people who oppose it have never voted in their lives anyway, so why would they start now? Although I disagree with her idea in principle, it would be funny to watch Ann Widdicombe be the person who brings gay marriage to Britain.

    1. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 1 Mar 2012, 6:31pm

Yeah and only allow those with mansions to vote! Yea, 16-19th century Britain! Let’s get a time machine and pop Widemouth into it and save us from listening or reading her religious poison…

  68. Call her bluff. Hold a referendum. I’m willing to wager my life savings on marriage being supported by a landslide majority and on Widdy looking like an idiot. Not that she doesn’t already look like one, but it’s good to have public opinion backing you up on these things now and then.

  69. soapbubblequeen 1 Mar 2012, 5:34pm

What is wrong with this old bat? Is she mentally ill or something? I wished someone would do an ‘Anita Bryant’ moment on her.

    1. George Broadhead 2 Mar 2012, 10:20am

The fact is that she is a Roman Catholic convert who adheres strictly to the Catholic Catechism on homosexuality and that says it all.

      1. soapbubblequeen 2 Mar 2012, 5:40pm

I never realized she was a converted Catholic. Perhaps that explains her right-on attitude. Rather like born again Christians. I’m still hoping she gets a pie in her face!

  70. Every one should live their lives the way they want. If people want to ban same sex relationships, then the LGBT should lobby the male-female marriage rights. The opinions of the Church, Government and narrow minded people should not interfere in people’s lives. Miss Widdecombe should pay more attention to her life and no one else’s. If she has nothing better to say may be she just stay silent.

  71. I think Anne Widdecome is probably a lesbian….

  72. I am gay and i am in a civil. Partnership it is my human right to haveit reconised as a marriage

  73. What a waste of money that would be. The right to marry whoever you want is a human right not a political football.

    1. The European Court of Human Rights has, within the last month, confirmed that same-sex marriage is NOT a human right.

  74. What a logical idea, which cuts out the bandying of accusations of fiddling the figures.

  75. I think the proposed legislation does affect existing opposite-sex marriages, because if one partner wants a sex change, this would no longer be a grounds for divorce. So in that sense people who are already married are having their marriages redefined somewhat as when there is new divorce legislation.
