A range of gay teas has been launched in Australia to benefit LGBT health charities for the coming month and coincide with Australian Mardis Gras celebrations.

The new DiversiTEA range features eight blends: B!tch Please, Disco Ball, D.R.A.M.A Queen, F@g H@g, French Tickler, Pearl Necklace, Pinkies Up and Pride.

B!tch Please includes chilli for a fiery drinking experience, D.R.A.M.A. Queen is blended with lime, lemon peel, and daisies in order to relax the het-up drinker.

Pearl Necklace is a night-harvested jasmine bud tea described as a “pleasure to watch”, with the tagline “Who doesn’t want a pearl necklace?”

20% of proceeds will go to health charities.

Dr Matthew Hynd, Chief Tea Guru at SLURP said: “There’s no doubt that our community is very interested in health and wellbeing so it’s a natural market for us.

“As a gay man myself, I’m passionate about promoting awareness of 100% gay-owned and operated Australian companies.”

February may be the month for gay drinks around the world. In 2011, the Minerva micro-brewery launched what was believed to be the world’s first ‘gay’ beer.

SLURP’s gay tea charity promotion will run until the end of March.

Two dollars from every box, which retail at AUS$9.95, will be split between the National LGBTI Health Alliance and the Queensland Association of Healthy Communities.

Hynd added: “We chose this time of year to launch DiversiTEA because it’s Australia’s peak season for LGBTI people, with Mardi Gras events on throughout February and March, including the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade and Party on March 3.

“There’s also Brisbane’s Big Gay Day on Sunday, March 11, and a huge tradition of overseas tourists coming to Australia for Mardi Gras and travelling around Australia afterwards.

“So it’s a great time to expose ourselves to the LGBTI community, so to speak. And a refreshing, calming cup of tea is the perfect way to wind down after one too many big gay dance party.”

Healthy Communities Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator, Jason Russo said “Healthy Communities appreciates the wonderful support of SLURP.

“Through donating proceeds from their fun DiversiTEA range SLURP and their customers will be supporting our unfunded LGBT health and wellbeing work in Queensland.

“We encourage everyone to get behind this great company that supports our community and buy some DiversiTEA. It also makes a great gift for that person who is always difficult to buy for too.”
