  1. “However, I can say that there would be a huge amount of internal debate and this would not JUST be done to out the individual.” Enough said.

  2. Roz Kaveney 17 Feb 2012, 11:32am

J McK – In what conceivable world is it possible to just take the Sun’s word for something involving the rights of a child, and a whole family, to privacy and say, enough said? A newspaper that makes a practice of hypocrisy, lies and double standards. Get real

Joanna Darrell of the Beaumont Society also needs roundly condemning. We must not forget the treachery from those who claim to be on our own side.

Still no public apology from the Beaumont Society or the sacking Darrell from her role in the organisation.

    1. Black Hawk Down 17 Feb 2012, 12:44pm

An apology from the Beaumont Society has been released on TMW’s Facebook Page

With regard to articles written in the press recently quoting the Beaumont Society as the source.
The Beaumont Society has no knowledge of the identity of the individual who is the subject of the articles, and the Society is not the source of any personal details about the subject of the article.
Within the last two years, an Officer of the Society, whilst on a local helpline, has responded to an anonymous call from a female to male transsexual, apparently making enquiries about the possibilities of bearing a child, even though the caller claimed to have undergone female to male treatment.
Callers details are neither asked for or recorded by those operating the Helpline, except if they are requesting written information.
In this case, the Caller was referred to GIRES.
The Officer has since been contacted by the Press, but only confirmed that she had had an anonymous enquiry and then a follow up call, some ti

A post on the TMW FB page is not a public apology…..Joanna Darrell boasted on Twitter of he act of treachery. It should be expected she is released of all duties and the Beaumont Society issues a full public apology on its own site.

It the bare minimum that should be done to make amends for this despicable episode.

        1. Can’t see any apology on The Beaumont Society website.

“Doing telephone interview with Sunday times today about FTM trans people who have babies – wish me luck !!!!” — Joanna Darrell (@Joannadarrell) February 12, 2012

How do The Beaumont Society explain this tweet by Darrell? it contradicts the piss poor apology on the TMW FB page. No information that was given in confidence on the helpline should have ever of been passed to the press its a major breach of trust, it was a breach of confidentiality to even confirm or deny the story the only comment should of been no comment. What this highlights is if you call a Beaumont Society helpline you are in danger of being sold out to the press.

The story is now being reported by the Telegraph along with quotes from Darrell and the questioning of trans reproductive rights!

Not sure how “Doing telephone interview with Sunday times today about FTM trans people who have babies” constitutes a breach of trust or confidentiality…

It may be useful at this stage to remind everyone how The Sun/News International plays a savvy ‘divide & conquer’ game when dealing with stories of this nature.

By creating a whirlpool of speculation and finger pointing within the very organisations and communities which have so far evaded their infiltration, they are hoping to flush the information out.

If we carry on playing the blame game and avoid pointing the finger where it truly belongs (ie the despicable Sun) we are playing into their (very grubby!) hands…

The Sun should be bloody ashamed of themselves…

There is also a VERY strong possibility they are whipping up this storm in order to a) deflect ongoing criticism of News International pending b) the relaunch of a Sunday Sun (this is, of course, standard News of The World territory remember…!)

          1. Helen Wilson 18 Feb 2012, 12:01am

If you host a confidential helpline any information a client reveals is not to be given to a newspaper journalist, if it is its a clear breach of trust and client confidentiality. Omitting the name of the client to the journalist does not work like magical fairy dust and make BS and its staff member free from criticism and responsibility.

The organisation and person involved in this have to accept full responsibility (and make appropriate amends) because without them the papers would have no story in the first place. The trans establishment are glossing over the treachery within our own ranks and it look like hypocrisy on our part. We all rightfully attack the papers but we should be honest and show our disgust at the actions Beaumont Society too.

  4. “What if the person also turned out to be a serial killer?”

What kind of non-argument is that?? Because someone is hypothetically a serial killer, that would be reason to expose their gender identity? I mean, what??

  5. The PCC are a toothless tiger.

I hope TMW have also referred this to Leveson.

It is beginning to look as if we won’t have to worry about this rag for much longer. It may be joining the criminal NOTW in the dustbin of has beens of Fleet Street. 9 arrests so far and more to come and the arch crim Murdoch scrambling about try to plug the holes in his crumbling empire, and not before time.
I have longed for this since the vile Sun came out strongly against the Good Friday Agreement here in Ireland, and I will be first to dance on the grave of this unedifying gossip sheet. Good riddance…now if only they could find something on Desmond and the Daily Wail…well we can all live in hope.

    1. Unfortunately Murdoch has just announced the launch of The Sun on Sunday. Hopefully no one will buy it!

      1. Paddyswurds 17 Feb 2012, 2:45pm

@Stu… so you’re back. We haven’t heard from the bully Samuel B since your spat and his attempt to besmirch your name which i’m glad to say failed. btw, what has happened to Jock S Trap?

        1. Paddyswurds 17 Feb 2012, 2:47pm

Scrap that question , he has reappeared below…lol

        2. Hi Paddyswurds

Thanks for your support the other day. I was here, just watching and observing from the sidelines.

Thought it best to let the dust settle given the venom being used in the attacks against me.

        3. Mr. Ripley's Asscrack 17 Feb 2012, 4:47pm

What spat with Samuel B? I did notice that that Stu wasn’t posting so much? Can someone reply with the comment link?! Oh, getting all tabloidy!

          1. Apparently Stu committed crimes against humanity for posting under another name and Samuel B was frothing at the mouth because Stu was higher than him in the user charts. But you know what, just forget it. It’s about as interesting as reading the Sun.

          2. @James E

Samuel certainly did make it feel like I should be sent to the International Court of Justice for my errors …

  7. ‘What if the person also turned out to be a serial killer?’

    Complete. Idiotic. Toss. Pot.

I look forward to more Sun reporters being arrested.

(Though, in seriousness, I realise how News works – and though the Sun is more blatent about their approach, the style of obtaining information ‘because the public must know’ not going to go away. BBC News can be included in that one. Not sure how many Trans Men are living in fear, though. Fear? Really?).

  8. Jock S. Trap 17 Feb 2012, 2:38pm

At the end of the day the UK press is acting no differently to that of the Ugandan paper that outed Gay men and Lesbians. It is shameful, harmful and has no business of the public.

  9. Miguel Sanchez 17 Feb 2012, 2:44pm

I guess the media has nothing better to do than invade the privacy of this person.

THEY NEED TO GET A GRIP!!!

  10. the only part of this post that is relevent to us at the moment is
“The Officer [...Joanna Darrell] has since been contacted by the Press, but only confirmed that she had had an anonymous enquiry and then a follow up call, some ti” [sic].

In fact you can narrow it down to one word “CONFIRMED”… there was no story until it was ‘stood up’ ie CONFIRMED by Ms Darrell.

Even more ironic is the fact that ‘Ms’ Darrell describes herself as a part time cross dresser yet manages to hide behind a femme name whilst putting every trans man in the country under a huge amount of pressure.

An apology on TMW facebook reaches a small number of members…. it needs a public apology on the Beaumont Society webpage…. or perhaps an article in Pink News!

    1. Staircase2 17 Feb 2012, 9:45pm

Where was that info then? I couldnt see that in this article…

  11. I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again today: it’s outrageous, disgusting and completely unacceptable. I think it’s high time the UK trans community banded together to take on these bigots who think we have no right to privacy like normal people and who want to parade us around like zoo animals.

    1. Hodge Podge 17 Feb 2012, 5:17pm

Time to be loud, time to show we have opinions and are very p’ed off.

  12. Janet Lameck 17 Feb 2012, 5:17pm

Why all the media hype? I found it in 10 seconds on Google!

  13. Paddyswurds 17 Feb 2012, 8:30pm

I get roughly eleven newspapers per week, although I buy only one (kind neighbours leave the rest on the wall for me) I f anyone comes into my home with the Sun in their Hand, pocket or pocket book, I ask them to leave it out to their car or put it on my fire immediately. That is how much I hate the homophobic anti Irish Sun.

  14. Staircase2 17 Feb 2012, 9:42pm

…” I do not believe that the media should be shackled on basis of possible collateral damage”…

The words ‘evil’ ‘stupid’ and ‘bastards’ spring to mind…
