  1. According to French news sites, Vanneste’s exclusion from the party will be discussed at a meeting next Wednesday. His selection as parliamentary candidate for the upcoming elections has also been suspended.

Another one who won’t surprise me if he is revealed to be closely tied with young girls.

I believe denying the holocaust is still a criminal offence in France. Off to jail you go Mr Vanneste, do not pass go do not collect 200 euros.

    1. And yet that isn’t protected by free speech… Double standards from nos amis.

    2. He isn’t denying the holocaust. That refers to the genocide of the Jews in the gas chambers at the seven extermination camps (all but one in Poland). Gays were not normally sent there, being sent to the “ordinary” concentration camps. Of course, this meant that they would be worked and starved to death, and physically brutalized, rather than gassed. Nevertheless, it is a fact that holocaust is a word preserved for the deliberate genocide of Jews and gypsies, rather than the treatment meted out to other groups, which was “merely” brutal and inhumane, but at least theoretically allowed a chance of survival, unlike the gas chambers.

  4. If he is allowed to remain in the UMP then Sarkozy may as well team up with the Front Nationale.

Sarkozy is scum. He heads a party that is comprised of lowlife scumbags.

    1. “In troubled times, when our society needs to keep its bearings, I don’t think that it is necessary to blur the image of this essential social institution that is marriage,” So says the Catholic three times married, right wing President of France. I think these spokespeople of the “sacred institution of marriage” might like to reflect on the meaning of the word, hypocrisy. To be helpful here is the meaning. Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.

  5. It really amazes me how anyone can publicly make comments such as this based solely on personal feelings and opinions without any scientific basis and still think they have something to offer to society. Freedom of speech should never legally allow anyone to incite hatred.

    1. It doesn’t amaze me at all. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean anything unless it includes the right to say something disagreeable to other members of society. As long as there is no incitement to violence, the courts should always err in favour of protecting free speech. It’s up to us to counter ignorant opinions with informed ones.

  6. I am surprised the higher court over turned his conviction a few years ago under free speech legislation as his comments are clearly homophobic. I wonder where the line is for French justice when free speech crosses into hatred? One can only assume it is quite a wide line line!

  7. The good thing about politics in most countries of western Europe – France very much among them – is that coming out and spouting bigoted tosh like this is a sure way to condemn oneself to the sidelines of public life for good. People in general are far more tolerant than that.

Perhaps he just wanted to retire from mainstream politics but found the resignation form too difficult to fill in. Perhaps he couldn’t get the narcissistic fantasies about young men out of his head. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out this guy is a self-hating closet case. Shows all the signs. Sad really…

    1. Unfortunately, this is not true at all in France. We have a weird habit to elect and re-elect politicians convicted and re-convicted of corruption, fraud, clientelism… French people don’t care about morality of public affairs. In this very case, C. Vanneste is a MP since 1993, constantly re-elected in spite of his well-know and various provocations.

  8. What is it with bigots and “the family”?

I genuinely don’t understand how gay is supposed to be some sort of antonym for family.

The two are not even tenuously related.

I have no interests in anyone’s family but my own.

    1. … and let’s remember that when ‘breeders’ discarded unwanted children – the so called future of the family – Adoption often falls to childless couples, including, increasingly GAYS (& very successfully too!)
      – So we are a threat to the future of family unless we’re clearing up the ‘mistakes’ of irresponsible hetros.

  9. ”gays have a “little preference” for younger men who resemble themselves when they were between 17 and 20 years old.” –
but it’s ok for so called real men to lust after females who resemble prepubesant girls as objects of sexual desire is it?

The age of enlightenment has never permeated the UMP, Sarkozy nothwithstanding. Liberté, Egalité and Fraternité mean nothing to that bigoted party. Twice married Sarkozy IS a bigot of the worst kind. Vanneste is no different, a reflection of the UMP.

      1. Three times married. The rest of your post is exactlly right.

  10. Jessica Hardy 15 Feb 2012, 1:33pm

This mans opinion is an echo from a bygone age.
I look forward to reading he has become a bygone politician.

  11. Vauxhall-Boy 15 Feb 2012, 2:28pm

Is he denying the homosexual holocaust?

    1. No. See my post above.

  12. *speechless*

Actually in some ways I suppose it’s good to be reminded that bigotry at its most stupid isn’t restricted to African politicians.

    1. Or the vatican, or eastern europe, or islamic theocracies, or russia, or the majoirty of asia, or the bible belt in america…… the list goes on.

  13. He’s so well informed about our supposed preferences. He is speaking from personal experience and he is too stupid to know

  14. Mr V Naughty 15 Feb 2012, 10:30pm

    He’s gagging for it!
