Israel urged: No war before Madonna’s Pride gig, please

An Israeli man has created a Facebook page calling on his government to hold off on a potential war with Iran until Madonna has completed her pre-Pride gig in Tel Aviv.

Kobi Zvili’s page urges the government to remember the gay icon’s dates, saying: “Netanyahu, No! no to war with Iran, untill Madonna’s tour visit to israel in may 29th.”

Israel is thought to be considering an attack against Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities on fears they are producing weapons. Iran, following the Islamic revolution of 1979, does not recognise Israel as a state.

Tension has been growing between the countries for years and Israeli officials have hinted at military action if Iran continued to develop nuclear weapons, as they believe it is doing. Iran has responded with similar warnings.

It was reported this month by a columnist at the Washington Post that US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta believes Israel could launch an attack on Iran as soon as April.

But during the growing diplomatic crisis, no one has yet considered Madonna, whose late spring concert may delay or avert military action, Zvili hopes.

Madonna’s concert at the Ramat Gan stadium will come just over a week before Tel Aviv Pride on 8 June and is expected to attract an international gay audience.

The page author continues: “War of any kind is bad, we call or leaders, prime minister Netanyahu and Barak, to avoid any attack of any kind against Iran or whatever, at least until Madonna’s tour visit in Israel. god save the queen!

“We are hereby to declare that this page and it’s organisars are anti war of any kind. we are pro peace. We love Madonna, and it’s just our humorous way of dealing with not so humorous life in the middle east. We send our neighbors in Iran a messege of unity, and hope Madonna will grace their country with a visit on her upcoming tour. [sic]”

761 people had backed the call on Facebook today.
