Elton John and David Furnish have spoken of fears their son will suffer stigma for having famous gay parents.

In an interview with Attitude magazine, the couple spoke of the “challenges” facing the family.

Their first son, Zachary, was born on Christmas Day 2010. His godmother was later confirmed to be Lady Gaga.

Of baby Zachary, Furnish tells Attitude: “I think he’s going to have a lot of attention thrust upon him.

“He’s going to be potentially doubly stigmatised, because one of his parents is extremely famous and because he comes from two dads.

“We’ve taken advice from counsellors. We’ve put a whole scrapbook together about his creation, the people who were involved in the process and how the intent was about love. We’re going to raise him to be proud of who he is.”

Last year, John spoke of the “happiest months” of his life being a parent, but warned of the dangers facing gay youth.

Writing in the Guardian, the musician said parenthood was a “blessing” and “an awe-inspiring responsibility”.

He concluded: “And we’re determined that he’ll grow up in a world different from the world that we grew up in ourselves.”

John announced in January that a “surreal” biopic of his life was “very much in the works”.
