  1. And for all the LGBT detractors of Peter – what have you done recently for equality?
He is a truley great bloke. Happy Birthday Peter :)

    1. Quite a lot actually Ian. I have a lot of respect and gratitude for Peter but that does not mean I agree with everything he has done or everything he has said.

It is rather shameful to try and close down peoples right to agree or disagree with him by trying to make him untouchable unless you have a human rights record of your own, Putting people on a pedestal is one of the things that religious people do in order to defray criticism and creates figures which people feel reticent to question (See Mother Teresa). I doubt Peter Tatchell would thank you for it. If he did I would certainly lose a lot of respect for him.

      1. @Dave G

        I entirely agree.

I value a lot of what Peter has done (and no doubt will continue to do). That does not mean that I perceive EVERYTHING he does as right. It does not mean I venerate and bow at his feet.

I value him, but he is human – and (in my opinion) like me, makes mistakes …

Today is a great time to celebrate him. It does not mean he is revered in sainthood …

  2. Happy Birthday Peter

Whilst, I do not agree with all of your campaigns or methods (particularly some of your recent articles) …. It is undeniable that all LGBT people owe you a great debt of gratitude for many of the campaigns that you have either iunitiated, co-ordinated or participated in during the years.

Without your work (and that of others) some, probably many, of the gains for gay rights and human rights that have been achieved – and those that have been highlighted as yet to achieve would not have happened or been so prominent in the public eye …

I wish you well for the future, and I will support you in many (but not all) of your campaigns in the future …

Some people are born to change things, to challenge, to move things on and to lead … It seems you are one of these people …

Thank you for what you have done and what you will do

    1. Agree in full and don’t need to add any more.
