    As liberal as my state is, I’ve been at a loss as to why we didn’t do this years ago.

    If this is legalised through the state legislature, it is a lot harder to repeal even by a ballot initiative. I doubt if this would stand a chance of being overturned. That’s why it is more important to use the legislature than the courts.
