Sad to read of Janey Buchan’s death, and a good tribute to her. Her range of issues supported was a great deal wider than LGBT rights, and it is curious the first place I read of her death is on Pink News. A first!

The LGBT conference story has another twist to it. Janey was brought up in a very working class household and had no time at all for the ‘trappings’ of office. But she understood their importance to the outside world and the gravitas they would give to the LGBT conference; so having accepted the invitation to be the official representative of the Provost and the City at the conference, she insisted that she should wear the splendid chain of office and arrive in the official grand mayoral car!
