  1. “Pregnancy is a process…”. So’s buying a house, changing car or the colour of your hair. Being a parent should be more than just a ‘process’ to concieve and give birth. This just discredits ‘Trans’ credulity IMHO…

Why should it….Do you think being trans means you have no biological urge to be a parent? People in all walks of life make what can sometime seem like crazy irrational sacrifices to have children….Its a emotional urge that might make a man with a transsexual history use the potential of his genitalia to reproduce however much having that genitalia might repulse him. Its also worth considering lower FtoM surgery is not very sophisticated at present, many men with a transsexual history opt to wait for a better surgical solution to come along.

In many ways this is no different to me opting to freeze a sample of sperm and at a later date using a surrogate mother and a egg donor to have a child. On my first visit to a well know gender clinic it was suggested if I wanted to have kids to get a sample stored. I do not have that biological urge so I did nothing about it, Yuval Topper obviously had that urge and took action and is now a proud father. I congratulate him.

      1. A very good comment, Helen – particularly about the urge to be a parent. But I still think the way pregnancy was described as a “process” was demeaning and unnecessary, whether it was meant that way or not (and I’m guessing it wasn’t). We don’t talk of love as merely a chemical process of the brain – it’s so much more than that – so to talk of the nurturing of life in one’s body in that way is wrong, in my opinion, so I understand the strength of confused’s comment.

        Congratulations to Yuval Topper.

  2. Haters are going to hate too bad the hate comes from those who profess to be the religious leaders of a God of love. The Beatles sang “All you need is love”, and if only that was preached today instead of hate the would would be a better place. Shalom

  3. Saying that pregnancy is a physical process rather than something gender defining in no way implies that Thomas Beattie considers parenthood to be ‘just a process’! If you inform yourself about Beattie you will find that he is a devoted and dedicated parent.

I don’t really see why this new story about Yuval Topper is a big deal – so what! Yes, some transmen can and do get pregnant. That shouldn’t be so hard to understand.

    1. its hard to understand because, biologically, only women have ovaries and wombs, get pregnant and give birth.
      Is gender different from biology?

      1. Yes, it is.

Men are born with ovaries and wombs all the time just as women are born with testicles all the time too. The fact is the medical profession surgically alters them as children to keep you ignorant of their existence of intersex people and safe and secure in a false gender binary system. Gender is what between the ears not what’s between the legs, that’s sex characteristics.

Given scientific research has moved on from the Dutch findings in 1995 about atypical brain structure transsexuals and that gender identity develops as a result of an interaction between the developing brain and sex hormones. Now research is finding direct genetic factors as to why this is happening, DNA analysis from male-to-female transsexual volunteers shows they were more likely to have a longer version of the androgen receptor genes. The genetic difference causes weaker testosterone signals and female brain development.

Being a woman or a man with a transsexual history is about the biology of gender.

  4. I am sorry, but i don’t think it is right for a transman to give birth. It makes our community look like side show freaks. As an openly gay man i am all for equal rights for the LGBT community. But i think that this is one right too far. Not meaning to offend anyone. Just my own opinion. Society will never accept this sort of thing.

  5. Helen i disagree with your views.

That seems like a great thing……I have no desire to think like or belike you.

  6. being a man now, where is the urge to get pregnant and to have baby is coming from?

  7. Helen, did u used to be a man?

    1. Helen Wilson 17 Jan 2012, 7:58pm

Did you used to be a human?

      1. Excuse me, i asked a simple question. It wasn’t a rude question. So don’t speak to me like that. I was asking out of general curiousity

  8. Mazel tov !
