  1. That old story where straight guys are so in love with themselves, they think no gay guy could resist their charms…. or is it that they just project their own behaviour onto others, and believe everyone is a potential rapist?

      1. Fine him?

        Good idea.

        He plays for Oxford City.

I recommend 50% of his next paycheque is docked.

(Which means that he will get about 2 quid in his next payslip.)

I’m a bit bored with the knee-jerk offence-taking. Is anyone surprised that a football player is somewhat “unreconstructed”? Yes, he should be told his behaviour is not appropriate, but I’m fed up with people being dragged over the coals for what amounts to mis-speaking, something we’ve all done I’m sure.

  10. It’s not really mis-speaking though is it? Mis-speaking is when you say oner thing and mean another, usually on the spur of the moment.
This guy has seen some information about Gareth then actively decided to get his phone out, typed his reaction, created a tag and pressed send. He chose to do this, no-one forced him to and it’s not like he was caught out during a live interview.

Unfortunately no-one is surprised that these views are common. What is reassuring though is that he and others will take notice of this ‘knee jerk’ response and might think again. If we took your route of saying nothing and thinking it was ineveitable then we’re never going to get beyond this intolerance as those involved will feel as if they hold acceptable views.

    1. So, what would you say to him then? You accuse people of ‘dragging him over the coals’, but haven’t made clear your preferred course of action. You have suggested that it is a minor thing, a common error (‘something we’ve all done, I’m sure’) and should basically be swept under the carpet with a quiet word in the ear. Common as homophobia might be, for those at the receiving end it is anything but minor. The man sees himself as superior to gay people and needs to be told, bluntly, publicly and with as little grace as he demonstrated that he is a moron. Dragging over the coals is especially appropriate.

  15. If he had left his comments at calling the housemates ‘a gang of losers’ then he would have been fine (a celebrity line-up where the most famous person is the actress who used to play Sonia on Eastender, is certainly not a gang of celebrities’

His comments about padlocking his a**e are clearly homophobic though. Was the fact that he missed the match related to his homophobic comments as that is not made clear in the article.

I really think Gareth Thomas has made a mistake by appearing in this joke of a show.

This show hasn’t helped ANYONE’s career even though it has been running for years.

I suppose Gareth Thomas simply needed the money.

  17. That’s a brilliant hash-tag – I wish I could come up with something so brilliant and witty. Has Mr Steele been psychologically damaged in a past experience by overstating his unavailable hole perhaps? Ah poor him, I hope he realises that we aren’t sexual predators, just human beings who fancy other human beings. Equally, I hope he realises that tweeting such homophobic nonsense these days almost guarantees a pay packet to be lighter, perhaps even with a little visit from Inspector Knacker of the Yard!
