  1. Fabulous news to start off 2012! Slowly, block by block we are seeing the creation of a path to full equality and human rights.

The nice thing is almost all of the votes in the Washington State senate are there, with one or two that Governor Gregoire has to “massage” to get them on board. I think it will pass safely. Great news though. Another one in the eye of NOM.

  3. Refreshing.

  4. GingerlyColors 5 Jan 2012, 10:04pm

Try telling that to Rick Santorum.

    1. Same sex marriage is comparable with opposite sex marriage. Same sex marriage is not comparable with polygamy as the fecal-foaming at the mouth Santorum attempted.

A Republican State Senator in Washington, Dan Swecker, told the Bellingham Herald: “It’s too bad we’d try to deal with this issue, that tends to be very divisive, in a year when we have these other major financial issues facing us”.

You could stop being a prick, let gay people have their equality and get on with solving the financial issues.

    1. It’s a ‘god’send to politicians though.

Yes it’s divisive so it will hog all the airtime and media attention and divert attention away from the fact that Washington states is part of the former democracy of the USA.

The Democratcs and Republicans LOVE a gay marriage debate. They LOVE to debate the human and civil rights of a minority group as it allows them to hide the fact that they are working for non-elected corporations.

    2. Robert in S. Kensington 6 Jan 2012, 1:22pm

Even if the economy were booming and jobs plentiful, they’d still find it divisive or find some other excuse not to legislate for it. They know it’s inevitable so they’d rather bury their heads in the sand and hope it’s going away, but it isn’t. Their day of reckoning is coming, and soon.

  6. Good for our neighbors to the North. I’m glad someone on the west coast had some balls to make it happen. We need equality. Come on Ca let’s see some action and Oregon, get your head out of your behind and put marriage equality on the books.

    1. Why have LGBT people in the US accepted so meekly that individual states have the right to determine their civil rights.

What is needed is a Supreme Court ruling declaring same sex civil marriage to be legal, in the manner than inter-racial marriage was legalising across all 50 states in the 1960’s.

I suppose to expect the 2011 Supreme Court to do this may be unrealistic seeing as so many judges are corporation approved judges Ie specifically selected to serve the human rights of businesses.

      1. Robert in S. Kensington 6 Jan 2012, 1:28pm

There are I believe 7 out of 9 catholic judges on the U.S. Supreme Court bench, five of whom are staunch believers in catholic teaching. Even if it were asked to rule on it, they’re under no obligation to hear the case and like most republicans would probably defer it back to the states to decide on the issue. However, should they ever hear the case, they could easily ignore the 14th amendment guaranteeing full protection for the minority’s rights. The recently overturned precedent by declaring that corporations are “humans” thereby allowing them to pour vast amounts of money into political campaigns, in other words, buying elections. I don’t trust any of them to rule in our favour, ever.

Good news! The governor has the numbers in the legislature to get this enacted. Here’s hoping all goes well

  8. A Republican State Senator in Washington, Dan Swecker, told the Bellingham Herald: “It’s too bad we’d try to deal with this issue, that tends to be very divisive, in a year when we have these other major financial issues facing us”.

Yes, Mr Swecker… Because politicians aren’t expected to deal with more than one bill at once.

We need good women in offices that are respectful , not racist, and with a view on the families and social structure of it and the economy, this nation and others must get to civililized and back focused on famiiy, and stop being sex fennes and addicts , the problems are coming from the hetersexual genders bothering all of the people and the nation with their sex addictions, and bad behavior, and dangers and violent sex addictions, the gay community or family people and this garbage is not the instigator in these evils, the hetersexual world must be overhauled, they are the problem it is good of this governor to be honest and realize that most of the bad marriages an dangerous one is in the hetersexual communoities, so bad it is costing women and their children rapes and murders everyday by hetersexual men, they are to dangerous to fool with, let alone marry, honesty about the matter we all see every day is the best thing concerning the nation, address the real problem its the hetero

  10. carrie baker 8 Jan 2012, 2:11am

We need a good democratic human rights woman president , that can and will turn this nations focus back to familiy issues and family national security, gay and hetero, addressing serious needs and problems like homleness, everywhere, that should be the top fix for every official in every state and city, sex crimes, bigotry and disscrimination, from schools to organizations, glass celings, to sexual harrassment of women and children, by hetersexual men, their murders, and sex crimes, the domestic wife battery , and gangs, the pedephilia and sex crimes in the heteresex;ual churches, of children and women , like in arizona, and all these bad pastors arrested week after week for their evils, along with high profile men coaches, scout leaders, school teachers all hetersexual evils, Obama, should be ashamed of himself for not addressing and fixing the problem of the san diego, homeless, veterans problems , a good president would have taken the first flight out to get there an demanded a key

  11. carrie baker 8 Jan 2012, 2:18am

A good president would have been down in Sand Diego, for the homeless veterans, on the first flight in personally , demanding a key to an old apartment duplex that has been abandon an sitting vacan t for years, or a skyrise or old hotel, that could be refurbished, HE would have had volunteers and charities with a donations himself from the white house , fixing it up and him and the first lady and the democratic party on the front page of the san francisco tribune and making headlines all over the world at their ribbon cutting , doing what a real president is suppose to do , his job, caring about the people and the atrocities, that it is in and the world, where the hell where these people where were the democratic senators from california and mayors an governors, all of these people should have been reprimanded for not taking care of one of the most important things in this nation, the people , and humanitarian aid, everywhere, the saftey structures, for their familes, as well,

  12. carrie baker 8 Jan 2012, 2:25am

From now on if the mayors and governors in each city and state and country , do not show on paper and in action backed evidence where they have fixed problems for homelessness and teens , senoirs, , the economy , the hate crimes , the gang problems, the school bbullying problems, the abuses in religions, in actions all in positive ways for the citizens of their districts produced within the first year, from the urban areas, to the middle class , because thats where the needs are and all the focus should be and little businesses, their well being , without furthur harming or burdening them, all of those officials who do not must be fired and made to step down and resign and other officials put in to replace them that will act on the peoples behalf , this nation cannot afford to keep allowing low doown officials to sit year after year in officices , where they do nothing for the nations economy and citizens in a positive way, besides set up illegal sex trafficking which has cost millions

  13. carrie baker 8 Jan 2012, 2:31am

This nations should be tired of officials abusing their titles, drawing big paychecks and not caring about the people they are elected to care for all the people, thats why it is paramount not to have bigots in offices, you must care about all the people and their famiies and across the nations, and act on their behalf, Thats what an honorable officaial and president does, these type of people are hard to find, people are to wicked and evil, and the national security and good jugdes must start steping in on the nations and citizen behalf in this time of horrific recession and depression, not letting even the president do and pass legislation that will further harm citizens or burden them are this nations, he is just a man who have already made some very bad decisions like the one in the health care situaltion, where, he tried to burden the people already hurting with fines, if they did not get healthcare, the poor is poor the barley are surviving the un empathic and sypathetic idiot,

  14. carrie baker 8 Jan 2012, 2:37am

People and their families are hurting everywhere, and their hearts are heavy, and sorrowful, unlike this idiot , the president goes up there and had to have the goddam civil rights groups an the naacp to call him into a meeting about not harming the vital people programs and elderly sendiors social security and medicare, because of the livliehood of the nations families and they have earned that , and many are disabled and desrerve that, many are veterans who put their lives on the line for him and his two da;ughters, and his familiy, while they lay up in posh lliving millionare style mansions in glass, golden toilest seat houses, not caring about the little man , who made the shoes on his big feet, and the wash clothes some in sweat shops made to wash his dirty ass, so dont you tell me that a good president should have had to wait till any one tell him to stand up for the little man and the hurting people, he should have had his sleeve rolled up tackling all of those issues first

  15. Governor Gregoireto run for ther presidential campaign when Obama has to go, just on this story alone if I was American she would have ticked one of my boxes
