    10:47 AM — Ugandan police have claimed that gay rights campaigner David Kato was killed by a man he had arranged to pay for sex. Mr Kato, who was recently outed by a newspaper, was beaten to death with a hammer at his home last week.

    5:18 PM — Clinton Cards has apologised for a greetings card which features a character called ‘Batty Boy’. The retailer apologised for causing offence this afternoon and said the card was being withdrawn from stores.

    4:48 PM — A study has found a link between homophobia and hormonal changes that can lead to illness. According to research from Montreal's Concordia University, people who had suffered homophobia had higher levels of stress hormone cortisol in their brains.

Speaking to GQ magazine, the disgraced preacher insisted he was happily married to wife Gayle and said he still believes that the Bible says homosexuality "is not God's best plan for people".

    5:39 PM — A man has reportedly confessed to killing Ugandan gay rights campaigner David Kato. The campaigner was killed in his home last week and local police said today that a man had admitted to killing him in a "personal disagreement".

    4:52 PM — Lord Mackay of Clashfern has argued that Christians must be free to act on their consciences when it comes to gay rights. The former Lord Chancellor under Margaret Thatcher and John Mayor said insisting that Christians abide by equality laws - such as in the case of hotel owners - was "Orwellian".

  • Iowa lawmakers move to ban gay marriage 23

    3:41 PM — Iowa's House has approved a measure that seeks to ban gay marriage in the state. The state legalised marriage for couples in 2009 after Supreme Court judges said a ban violated the constitution.

  • Carlisle men fined for shouting abuse at trans women 8

    2:22 PM — Two men from Carlisle have been fined for shouting abuse at two transgender women in the street. Carlisle magistrates' court heard that Wayne Blair and Stephen Currie, both 22, had threatened Simone Armstrong and Kim Oakland and yelled anti-gay abuse at them.

    11:40 AM — A new website to encourage people to report hate crime has been launched. True Vision gives information on what hate crime is and how to report it.

  • Video: Saturday Night Live attacked for ‘transphobic’ skit 13

    10:51 AM — US television show Saturday Night Live has been attacked for including a skit which mocked transgender women. The piece, a mock advertisement for hormone pills, was "destructive and dehumanising", the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said.

    LGBT groups say the killings need to be investigated

    5:57 PM — LGBT campaigners are calling on Honduran authorities to fully investigate the murders of six transgender women in just 60 days. According to Human Rights Watch, the first death was on November 29th and the latest took place on January 17th.

    5:21 PM — The Justin Campaign's Football V Homophobia Day has received support from football's equality body Kick It Out and the FA. The annual day, in February, is now in its second year and encourages teams at all levels to tackle homophobia.
