  1. maybe people just don’t want to be married or because of the economy is bad…
if gay/lesbian people could get married i bet it would reach a new high which he’d deny…

  2. Santorum 1. The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. 2. Senator Rick Santorum.

  3. Santorum polls in single digits. What we see is a protracted job application, paid for by donations, for a place on Faux Noose, or at a conservative “think” tank or some of christian “family” or marriage group. He isn’t even a sitting politicians and is selling bigotry to the knuckle-dragging slack-jawed gullible and easily frightened few. The only problem? He doesn’t have the empathy, common sense, education or knowledge to understand that naming a minority as a less-than-human “other” endangers safety and even lives. All done in the name of Religion Inc.

As ever, Rick reminds us to click on this link to help keep it top of the Google searches for “Santorum”:

Thank you for doing your bit…….

    1. Commander Thor 15 Dec 2011, 6:43pm

Ah yes, that reminds me: I need to wash my bed sheets.

  5. The logic of Rick Santorum absolutely baffles me. I just can’t comprehend how anyone especially a politician can be that stupid.

Or maybe he doesn’t actually believe what he’s saying and it’s part of a wider politcal game…..but somehow I doubt it.

    1. Pastor Rich N. Fat 15 Dec 2011, 11:57am

It’s the standard line against marriage equality that opponents use, that it will harm heterosexual marriage. The logic is baffling indeed. However it was spectacularly exposed as baloney in the Prop 8 case, which is one reason that the homophobes insist on preventing the videos of the trial being published.

That apart, Sick Rantorum seems strangely obsessed with gay people.

    2. That’s probably because logic is notable for its absence in this instance, Daniel!

  6. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2011, 11:26am

Absolutely pathetic. Was a crazy man with mush for brains if he seriously expects other to believe that drivel.
    -
Will they stop at nothing to prove their bigotted discrimination?
    -
Shameful man, shameful party what left?
    -
Let’s hope Obama gets another 4 years at least then we know the world is safer.

  7. Maybe people have finally realised that marriage is supposed to be a lifelong commitment not an excuse to have a party to show off how big your credit limit is.

Perhaps seeing other people fighting for their right to marry has made others think about this. Or maybe some have learnt lessons from people like Kim Kardashian.

It’s far more likely that people are just broke.

  8. He’s dead right. So many of my straight friends who at present are just shacked up together have all warned me that they won’t consider marrying legally if my boyfriend and I can get to do it.
What an idiot. There must be GOP members shrivelling up with embarrassment.

  9. I really hope the American electorate will expose the lies that Sentorum is telling … the report may point out at a fall in marriage rates but does not equate this with equal marriage …

Indeed, the msot esteemed review of the impact of equal marriage on heterosexual marriage has been consucted in Scandinavia and shown that heterosexual marriage benefits in terms of rate and reduction of failure rates from the introduction of equal marriage.

    1. Pastor Rich N. Fat 15 Dec 2011, 12:03pm

It was exposed in the prop 8 trial, the videotapes of which are being suppressed by the equality opponents.

  10. STUPID STUPID AMERICAN TWAT – HOW IS THE LGBT COMMUNITY ANY REAL THREAT TO THESE DICKHEAD CANDIDATES UNLESS THEY ARE (AS WE ALL SUSPECT) SELF LOATHING CLOSET CASES – SURELY THERE ARE MORE PRESSING ISSUES IN THE USA TO CAMPAIGN ABOUT – STUPID

    1. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2011, 1:03pm

Er… thanks for the large print, not quite in need yet but very much appreicated.

  11. It is my understanding that this man is a MD? If that is true, how the “hell” did this “quack” get through medical school or maybe he became a physician through one of those by (buy) mail education mills where you purchase your degree?

    1. It could be that he knows without a shadow of a doubt that what he is saying is towering rubbish, and that he also knows that it is the required diet of the political constituency he is courting. It is reminiscent of homophobic nuts like Anita Bryant in the 70s saying that gay rights caused the Florida orange harvest to fail and that American liberties are based on the Bible. Whether she believed this tosh or not, she knew her fans. Santorum could work that sort of thing out whether he had an education or not.
Politicians and demagogues being lying, manipulative cynics? Hold the front page!

  12. Pastor Rich N. Fat 15 Dec 2011, 12:16pm

To quote the California Supreme Court:

The California Supreme Court states in their decision that “the exclusion of same-sex couples from the designation of marriage clearly is not necessary in order to afford full protection to all of the rights and benefits that currently are enjoyed by married opposite-sex couples; permitting same-sex couples access to the designation of marriage will not deprive opposite-sex couples of any rights and will not alter the legal framework of the institution of marriage, because same-sex couples who choose to marry will be subject to the same obligations and duties that currently are imposed on married opposite-sex couples.” (2008 decision)

  13. Oh honestly, is there no nonsense he won’t stoop to in his desperation to generate column inches? Silly little man.

  14. Sick Rantorum 15 Dec 2011, 12:28pm

The court record of the prop 8 trial establishes as an indisputable fact that that marriage equality for gays does not harm heterosexual marriage.

    http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2010/06/10/david-boies-prop8-trial-establishes-as-matter-of-fact-that-marriage-equality-doesnt-hurt-straight-marriage/

  15. The American Taliban (aka the Republican Party) truly are despicable creatures.

This non-entity is not even a contender in the race.

    1. I’m sorry if I come over all Guardian-readerish about this, but I really think you diminish and trivialise the Taliban by calling the Republicans that. Their respective attitudes to women alone bear no comparison whatsoever.

  16. Santorum doesn’t even realise that a lot of people can’t afford to get married in this recessive economy that bordered on a depression. Next he’ll be blaming same-sex marriage on the record number of housing foreclosures or inclement weather. I’d like him to explain why marriage rates are at all time lows in other countries that don’t even allow same-sex marriage such as France, Germany, even England. What an idiot. People like him make America look like a laughing stock. The problem with these conserative religious nutters is that they don’t read anything, low intellectual grasp on just about anything. In his country, one in two marriages have been failing long before marriage equality happened in the first state to allow same-sex marriage. He should ask fewllow presidential contender and arch bigot republican Newt Gingrich who exactly was to blame for his two failed marriages and his adulterous affairs before he went on to his third.

  17. You could just as easily say that the fall in marriages was a silent protest by the American public about the lack of marriage equality. Maybe someone should point this out to Mr. Santorum.

  18. Any else you’d like to blame LGBT for Rick?

Honestly, the man is a complete loon.

  19. jamestoronto 15 Dec 2011, 2:04pm

Is there no end to this man’s idiotic logic. Heterosexual marriages in the US — and elsewhere — have been on the decline for many, many years now well before equal marriage. The percentage of failed straight marriages ending in divorce has been climbing for decades. I defy the candidate to bring forward one example of couple getting divorced and using the introduction of equal marriage as the grounds for their divorce.

Santorum is faltering miserably in the polls and is desperately clutching at straws to score points with the electorate. But they aren’t buying into lies.

  20. What else can you expect from a man who brings home the dead fetus of his prematurely born son so his other children can bond with it:

    http://radio.foxnews.com/2009/08/13/rick-santorum-took-dead-baby-home-to-meet-family/

  21. I hope the United States of America has manu. many therapists because after viewing the Republican candidates, ‘therapy’ is what they all so desperately need!

  22. Hoyle McCain 15 Dec 2011, 2:43pm

Santorum, the only group to blame for the decline in marriage popularity in the US is heterosexuals since LGBT people are not allowed to partake in the institution of marriage. I remind you that your group includes the likes of Brittney Spears and the Kardashian witch who have notoriously shat upon your definition and institution of marriage with their very short ‘fun’ weddings. You are truly a disgusting and twisted young male. Not even a “Man”.

  23. Errol Semple 15 Dec 2011, 3:13pm

    Ignorance and absence of proof.
Expanding marriage eligibilty has increased the number of marriages.
What are the marriage statistics without gays? Even less!

  24. O’Cathain, Court, Santorum: with so many nutters filling the pages of PinkNews, it’s beginning to read like the daily mash!

  25. It’s TRUE! So many of my betrothed straight friends have ditched their intended and switched to a gay civil partnership – it’s just so much better! It’s a REAL and PRESENT danger :)

  26. Christine McQueen 15 Dec 2011, 3:26pm

Even if I considered myself a Republican, (which I’ve never been!) there is no way in HELL I’d ever vote for ANY of the idiots that party has put forth in this election cycle.

  27. Rick Santorum – a complete stranger to logic and common-sense. But oh so obsessed with LGBT people!

Yep, Rick, you go right ahead and think that. In fact, why stop there – forgot to pay your credit card bill? Gay men’s fault. Dropped your toast butter side down? That’ll be the fault of some lesbian hundreds of miles away then. *rolls eyes*

Doesn’t he realise what a prat he sounds?

  28. Thank God he did not blame it on the hippies, like the Catholics blamed their pedophile priest on the hippies. Like blaming your problems on somebody else solves your problems, only a fool does that.

    1. You mean gay hippies of course, anything gay, we’re to blame, including bad weather, economic decline, natural disasters, you name it, we’re to blame with or without same-sex marriage.

  29. What can we expect from the son of Sicilian immigrants? Sicily is an extremely homophobic island much like the rest of it’s mainland, Italy and it’s equally homophobic government.. Such a shame, such a beautifully rich culture that has given so much to the world, 60% of the world’s art, arguably the greatest food in the world, unsurpassed musical heritage, fashion, architecture, banking, the world’s oldest university that predates Oxford by 700 hundred years. Sad!

    1. Sorry Robert, but that’s a preposterous argument. Andrew Cuomo is of Italian descent too, yet his track record is rather different. Resorting to national stereotyping almost lets Santorum off the hook, whereas I’m sure he’s perfectly capable of making up his own (clearly rather small) mind.

  30. What a complete and utter nutcase. I think that the problem with marriage is that it is wingnuts such as Santorum that are the face of marriage in the US. With that connotation with marriage, I wouldn’t want to get married, either!

  31. spiritbody 15 Dec 2011, 7:32pm

Well this isnt very suprising. No doubt we’ll get blamed for every hetrosexual divorce that there is for some time to come.
It sometimes feels like, for a minority, we sure hold alot of influence. Its amazing the amount of things gay people are blamed for.

  32. PHD “Piled Higher & Deeper”
He’s full of it! a little research would have told him where legal SSM takes place it has actually reversed declines in marriage numbers for those states. As a further bonus cash infusions in the economy and job increases have been statistically proven.

Highest rate of marriage was in 1949 and declined to 1970 when through 1985 saw increases. From 1985 through 2009 saw it’s largest decline. where as 1970 through 2009 common law increased 5 fold.

He would be better informed if he read these statistics
    http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2011/12/14/barely-half-of-u-s-adults-are-married-a-record-low/2/

    1. cont:
Further information is available at this link, which also has an informative GLBT section for review.

      http://www.unmarried.org/statistics.html

The GLBT section outlines further that even where permitted SSM is not recognized by the Federal government.

The Federal government does not recognize any same-sex marriages or civil unions, so federal marriage rights and responsibilities like Social Security, federal tax breaks, and immigration rights are not accessible. States are not required to recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions performed in other states, and most don’t, but some do (e.g., New York and Rhode Island).

  33. Because we all know allowing more people to get married results in less marriage >.>

  34. Robert in S. Kensington 3 Jan 2012, 4:40pm

Maybe he hsould look at his own roman cult and explain why church attendance is at the lowest level in decades, and catholic schools closing, a good thing in my view. Why doesn’t he ask fellow Catholic Newt Gingrich about family values and his serial adultery, 3 marriages no less. The hypocrisy and stupidity of these people are breath-taking.

  35. GingerlyColors 6 Jan 2012, 11:02pm

I am pig-sick of all these religious fundies, regardless of whether they are Muslim, Jewish Christian or whatever.
