Russian deputy Prime Minister: A national “gay propaganda” law should be considered

  1. Truly bizarre.

For a country like Russia which is undergoing a population crisis (the population is plummeting due to massive immigration; falling birthrate and a life expectancy of 59 years for Russian males – because of chronic alcoholism – compared to a life expectancy of 79 in Western Europe) that they would be focussing on this.

Oh well never mind. Within 100 years Russia will be much smaller than it is today when China decides it needs more space for its 1,300,000,000 population.

    1. We need to make a law to stop Christian propaganda, it has been proven to kill gay children.

  3. We need to realise that Russia is a dictatorship which is posing as a democracy.

Vladimir Putin is ‘elected’ for sure, but that’s more to do with the fact that his special services attack, imprison and kill any opponents to his dictatorship.

That Medvedev muppet is Putin’s puppet.

  4. Yet again one can only despair at the UN’s completely inability and failure of will to address even its own human rights standards on a global scale.

Peter, the UN soes not have the power to enact laws that effect any country. They can publicly condem Russia’s stance and treatment of gays and lesbians and maybe with hold humaniterian funding but that’s about all the UN can do.

But what do you expect Putin and Burlesconi are chums. Two ugly narcissistic bigoted pigs.

A pathetic comment. What … do you expect LGBTI organisations in Russia – and their international supporters – to turn over, turn the other cheek and do nothing? Never was a comment more worthy of that old statement that for evil to prosper all that is required is for good men to do nothing … is this you, Eric?

  8. Words fail me. “Disgusting activity”?? I admit I don’t much like the thought of straight sex but I’ve never felt the need to try to ban the ‘promotion’ of it or punish straight people for having it *rolls eyes*

What planet are these people on?

  9. The trouble with Russia is that it is an extremely insular country.

The vast natural resources in Russia ensure that they are self-sufficient financially.

And thanks to the massive Russian inferiority complex (which is as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the resulting economic collapse), any criticism by Western Europe or the US, will simply encourage the Putin dictatorship to press ahead with these laws.

Boycotts won’t work as they don’t need us – they have oiil and gas. A tourist boycott won’t work as Russia does not want tourists.

Only a boycott of their oil would achieve results. And that won’t happen, as we need their oil and gas.

I think the best method would be to relax the asylum laws for the LGBT population.

  10. And let’s not forget that human rights are an alien concempt to the Putin dictatorship. The European Court of Human Rights had to amend their charter, because of the vast numbers of cases being brought against the Russian government meant the backlog of cases would take years to get through.

    1. way to go russia, kudos for the boldness to address this sickness that is engulfing our world. I still dont get it, why a man will want to sleep with another woman, or a man with another man. It is not convenient, it is sick, is not natural. If you find yourself in the situation, you may want to seek help instead of looking for acceptance.

If this were a story about an African nation, there would several racist posts concerning the (admittedly appalling) attitudes of African states re: gay rights.

Just something to think about the next time Mugabe spouts off. Homophobia is not about race – its about ignorance and intolerance and it crosses racial and socio-economic lines.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree, despite the huge replies to posts regarding Africa’s negative stance on gay people, not once has anyone thought of the suffering the LGBT people in Africa have had and continue to endure; simply because people con’t care.

Blinded by their own projection of prejudice they don’t see the only “disgusting activity” is their own at how they treat others.

Damaging and evil when will these people learn?
