It’s great to see trans people becoming involved in politics but she will not be the first. The article notes Cllr Sarah Brown in Cambridge; but in Scotland there was Sandra MacRae, who stood for the UK Parliament as an SNP candidate in Glasgow Provan in 1992. She had stood three times previously before gender reassignment.

Lets face it though the Labour party have been rubbish on trans. rights. They pretty much single handedly bxxered my life up for me. What headline things have they done, and watch the small headline stuff more closely. They are just opportunist out for votes, and if you think anyhting else you will suffer…….

    1. I do not agree that Labour have been rubbish on trans rights, not in Uk anyway. Look at all the legislation that came in during Labour’s reign. The equality act, Gender recogition act plus others. We had none of those when the tories were still in power back in 1997 and it’s most definitely not high on their agenda now. For heavens sake cameron voted against gay marriage. What interest has he in trans issues?, they will bugger up trans people by sqeezing the funding to the NHS, so that it will take longer to get treatment and you get less of it..
The laws now put in place by Labour have helped me come out and be myself as a trans person. Especially the workplace laws. We actually have some of the best rights in the world at the moment for trans, but it can always be better.

Anyway, Well done Carol and I hope you kick ass and win!! xx

      1. Cameron has been one of the biggest movers in getting gay marriage through, didn’t he recently introduce it at a party conference?

Labour screwed over trans people in the 2010 Equality Act. And god help us, the Lib Dems have always been better.

Well done Carol – can’t imagine what it must have been like for you to have to undergo a mastectomy.

But, you have come out fighting again and successfully realised your dream.

Good luck in your fight to de-marginalise trans people – I hope you win that seat and then go on to become an MSP
