Well, what can I say? He Said the wrong thing…. But he DID the right thing..
It was a stupid and hurtful thing he said, but at least he has made an unqualified apology .. and (it would seem) realises the stupidity of his comments…
I think his apology should have been enough and it was clearly heartfelt. I don’t think he should have resigned but it seems everyone is now hanged after just one comment these days. Yes it was homophobic but I don’t think he genuinely intended it to be…
I would agree with you, perhaps if he had made that heartfelt apology in the first place he might have not felt the need to resign. Even so I think that this current trend that one mistake – bad one though it was – means you are somehow unacceptable to the gay community to do a job which does not directly affect them is a particularly illinformed trend and may well do us more harm than good
Having said that when our future health minister in Northern Ireland described gay people as repugnant I think he should have stepped down. It’s a matter of whether the views are really ingrained and have the possibility of becoming discriminatory and harmful to LGBT people.
Perhaps he should go into gay porn? He never could direct a decent film…obviously from his comment. Guess he won’t be producing any of Roland Emmerich’s or Josh Whedon’s trash. Obviously just another Hollyweed moron, judging from his film work. I mean, how stupid can he be, knowing 99% of the people working in the industry are gay or bi.
Probably just as well you stay away from a job in journalism given the quality of your response – can you provide a link to substantiate your claim that 99% of the people in the movie industry are gay or bi.

It’s and extraordinary claim which will require extraordinary evidence.
Imagine if he used a pejorative for black or Asian or Jewish…. Yeah, he has been given the courtesy of being allowed to jump before he is pushed. Of course, if he had extended us a touch of courtesy, he’d never be in the position in the first place.
That’s a decent apology.
But it’s absolutely appropriate that he resigned,

So while I think his apology is sincere, the message needs to be learned by these Hollywood people – homophobia will have negative consequences for your career.
The question now is, will archbigot Eddie Murphy host the Oscars? Some of you may be unaware that when asked some years ago what he would do if one of his children were gay, Murphy said that first of all, he’d kick his wife down the stairs. Can you imagine what he would do to one of his children who turned out to be gay? I wonder why this hasn’t been picked up by the gay watchdogs out there, especially the GLAAD organisation?

…unfortunately the word “faggot” or “fag” is , in the USA, a term of abuse used in similar context to the “gay” word used in European schools as a general term of abuse. This has been the case for a couple of hundred years in the US. We must take this in context of a country that still murders criminals even if they have been deemed mentally deficient and still has “In God We Trust” on their money that along with the highest murder rate on the planet and still allows any nut a gun.
Has anyone seen these so called “beauty pageants” where children as young as three as painted and dressed to look like low class prostitutes and paraded on stage. This is a country that has self appointed itself as the worlds policeman, although Highwayman would be a more appropriate moniker…..
