And that, boys and girls, is what a REAL apology sounds like…

  2. I think a lill PR going on for the movie…..i give him the benefit of the doubt…It would be hard to be a Director – If you pissed ALL the gays off.

  3. Apolagy not accepted.

Anyone who says ‘fag’ has issues as thats a word where you have to conciously think to use it.

Even if not homophobic you should still understand its offensive.

    1. Butterburr 8 Nov 2011, 11:05am

There are a ot of meanings to the word fag. I use it all the time to
mean ‘a boring or wearisome task’ or chore, as in ‘it’s a right fag’. It’s OK to use the word, I still use the word gay to mean bright and colourful.

      1. Butterburr, true there are different meanings for the word fag, but the meaning in this context is quite clearly the homophobic slur. Yes fag can mean a wearisome chore, but if he intended this meaning he would have said ‘rehearsal is a right fag’. Also that meaning is really only used in colloquial British English, it’s not something you would hear from an American. In American English fag has only one meaning, while in Brit English it has four meanings (tiring task or activity, cigarette, public school servant and homophobic slur). Brett Ratner used the word in an unacceptable way. It is a worry that he did this as it wouldn’t occur to most normal non-homophobic people to do that in the first place. He has made a good apology but I just hope that it is heartfelt!

      2. You’re clearly not American. “Fag” there today has only one meaning (and it’s not a cigarette either).

I am a French Canadian and in the past (til mid-seventies) , the French word ” tapette ” was used as a vulgar term to indicate a gay person ! The word tapette itself is a also a real french word meaning ” a small slap” ( or in French, une petite tape ). The use of tapette to describe gays and lesbians is now obsolete —– only the most ignorant in society might still use it. So much for your multiple meaning of the word fag. In Canada, the LGBT community is equal in all respects to all other Canadian citizens since 1985 !

Ratner is a thick fat c**t, he’s been dropping these little gems of inspiration into his interviews over the past few weeks whilst promoting his third rate movie. He’s been making headlines for saying inappropriate things not just the ‘fags’ comment but actresses etc. Rotten individual.

  5. I’m so fed up of passive voice ‘apologies’! “For any offence my remarks caused”? That’s just not good enough. “I’m deeply sorry for making a homophobic statement and for offending a whole community of people” is a good beginning.

Politicians, journalists and media stars alike have all embraced passive voice apologies and every time I hear one, all I can think of is how insincere it sounds.

When you do something wrong, a proper, sincere apology starts with admitting *you* have done wrong. I wish people in the public eye would start thinking this way.

Hey Mr, HIV Free always! well i do hope that your next meeting is with mr HIV!!! good luck you sicko!!! And i question why a sad individual as your self who is a hater, here to spread verbal abuse!

  7. Suddenly Last Bummer 8 Nov 2011, 11:37am

Keith you fugly old saddo you might not be pleased to know that HIV infections are sky high amongst the hetero community and FYI its only hetero couples who can produce “innocent babies” you thick as pigs**t imbecile. Go back to your bible and and your once a month conjugations. Loser.

    1. keith-For an HIV-free heterosexual man you seem to devote inordinate amounts of time trawling this site looking to make homophobic comments. Is it just attention you are seeking-or maybe something else?

      1. He loves talking about his anus and sex with it, but not directly of course, that would make him gay….

He’s a vile individual, but he gives us all a good laugh. Especially the murdered babies bit. He’s clearly got acute mental health issue, but its funny non the less.

  8. “Keith…HIV free always! ”

Shouldn’t that be “Keith…intelligence free always!”

Learned to spell faecal yet, Keith, or have you asked your hospital ward how to turn on a spell check?

    LOL! Stupid man.

  9. Oh, no! The babies! Help! Help! Won’t someone PLEEEEEEASE think of the little darling babies.

You should not be allowed near children anyway, Keith, your obsession with sexual positions involving your anus would mean your one pen click away from being described in detail on the Sexual Offenders Register.

  10. Keith = closet fag. No well adjusted, secure straight male would find it necessary to troll gay sites. I think this is more than prurient interest hence his constant referral to anal sex which I might add is practiced by many heterosexuals, even the married ones.

    1. Not to mention the obsession he has with his anus….

  11. “The apology he gave I truly believe comes from his heart. … This is about integrity and honouring the Academy Awards, but we all make mistakes and I believe he didn’t mean it.”

If he meant it then he would not be putting the responsibility for the offence he caused on the people who were offended.

Any ‘apology’ which says ‘I am sorry for any offence my remarks caused’ is NOT apologising.

Ratner is a 3rd rate hack director and a known misogynist and homophobe.

The Oscars will really hit a new low with a neanderthal like him at the helm.

    1. Now, this is said totally for the contrast, to put it in a language that Mr. Ratner might be able to experience in the same way as we fags out here. “What, rehersals? What kyke is gonna pay actors to act and not get it on film?” Let the feeding frenzy commence.

  12. it seemed as if that comment rolled off his tongue very naturally, I doubt it is the first time he has used the word “fag”.
Being in the industry he is in he knows how offensive this is and he should pay a penalty for insulting so many of his industry colleagues as well as the general viewing public.

  13. ben pin wang 8 Nov 2011, 6:25pm

Whatever happened to Mel Gibson should happen here, period. Don’t attend or watch the Oscars. As a famous public figure promoting some worldwide products for so many years, he hasn’t learned then he never will. We have the integrity not to take it.

  14. What a silly man. Even in his apology he was offensive: “It was a dumb way of expressing myself.”…I think he needs a thesaurus and perhaps a dictionary to look up the word ‘dumb’ and be thankful he isn’t, even if he uses his voice for in such an unskilled manner. He may not have meant any harm, but he really should know better.

  15. Peter Gregory 9 Nov 2011, 9:15am

Personally I switch off the moment I see Eddie Murphy in ANY film- his obsession with gays is worrying and he’s camper than ANY of the most outrageous queens who drag up and do OTT stuff. Hi homophiobia actually incites hatred. He’s just a sad self-oppresed screwed up guy greedy for money by doing the hate thing and covering up his own sexuality.

Do a google search for “Eddie Murphy homophobia and looksee
Gossip sheets had a heyday in 1997 when Murphy was arrested for picking up a cross-dressing prostitute. Murphy explained that he was just being a “good Samaritan” and he was not charged.
Don’t Eddie’s homophobic jokes back in the darker days of the LGBT community still resonate in the memory as even more hideous than Meet Dave?

“Eddie Murphy says, “Do you know what it’s like to have a nation of fags mad at you?!” (But many say he’s a hypocritical liar who has a things for trannies.)”

See Murphy’s pathetic and disgusting homophobia in this clip:

  16. Imagine if he said, rehearsals are for nlggers, or yids. Do you really think he would still be directing the oscars. Me thinks not. Further proves how homophobic hollywood still is.

  17. Jock S. Trap 11 Nov 2011, 12:44pm

Easy to say but does he mean it?

  18. Jock S. Trap 11 Nov 2011, 12:45pm

    You are a bore.

I am a bit late in reading my Pink News e-mails but wish to thank Dana for the update informing us that Brett Retner resigned from hosting the Oscars. His unacceptable remark about “fags” and his lame apology made him a most unacceptable host for the Oscars !! No comments needed on Eddie Murphy…..
