Police are investigating the brutal killing of a gay man in Ayshire, Scotland.

Stuart Walker, 28, from Cumnock, was found dead with “horrific injuries” close to Caponacre Industrial Estate, Cumnock, just before 5am on Saturday.

He had been beaten, tied to a lamppost and burned.

There has been speculation that Mr Walker was killed because of his sexuality and police are investigating this theory.

A spokeswoman for Strathclde Police told the Scotsman: “In terms of claims of his sexuality and lifestyle we are not ruling out any aspect of his life to try and identify why someone would want to kill him.”

She added: “His body was scorched but it is believed that this was not the cause of his death. We are looking at CCTV and conducting door to door inquiries.”

Mr Walker, a barman, was last seen alive near Glaisnock Street’s fire station at about 2.30am on Saturday.

His body was found by a passerby two and a half hours later.

Police are attempting to piece together his final hours through CCTV and door-to-door enquiries.

They are also asking anyone with information to come forward, particulary those with information about house parties on the nearby Netherthird housing estate.
