An 18-year-old has been jailed for murdering a 67-year-old gay Lincolnshire man.

Aiden Jackson was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 years by a judge at Lincoln crown court for killing David Cowley in November last year.

Jackson, of The Innings, Sleaford, lured the older man to Ballast Pits with the intention of robbing him, Judge Michael Heath.

A trial at Lincoln crown court heard he promised the older man sex but strangled him and left his body lying face-down in water before stealing his car.

Mr Cowley’s body was found on November 17th 2010 at a remote spot at Ballast Pits off Mareham Lane.

Judge Heath said it was not clear whether the murder had been motivated by homophobia but accepted Jackson had not planned to kill the pensioner.

The teenager had pleaded not guilty to murder.

According to Press Association, Judge Heath called him an “inveterate liar” but immature.

He said: “You are immature I accept, although you have demonstrated during this case a degree of low cunning in your attempts to extricate yourself from the predicament in which you found yourself.”
