Police are appealing for witnesses after a gay couple’s Oxfordshire home was targeted by youths with an air gun.

The couple, aged 45 and 39, were at their home in Chestnut Close at around 9pm last Wednesday when they heard a bang at the back of their home.

They discovered that a glass patio door had been shattered. Police believe that an air gun was used to break the glass and are treating the incident as a homophobic attack.

Shortly afterwards, the couple said they heard a group of youths aged between 16 and 18 outside using anti-gay slurs.

PC Laura Pagan, of Thames Valley Police, said: “The door may have been shattered by an air weapon of some sort. The victims believe they have been targeted due to their sexuality.

“They are naturally very distressed by this attack and we are following up all enquiries to identify the youths involved and bring them to justice.”
