Four men have been found guilty of murdering a lesbian in Cape Town, South Africa.

Zoliswa Nkonyana, 19, was stoned and stabbed to death after a night out in Khayelitsha on February 4th 2006.

Lubabalo Ntlabathi, Sicelo Mase, Luyanda Londzi and Mbulelo Damba were all found guilty of her murder on Friday.

Two men were already cleared of the killing, while Magistrate Raadiya Whaten said there was not enough evidence to convict three other men: Mfundo Kulani, Themba Dlephu and Sabelo Yekiso.

The magistrate said that the testimony of two witnesses led the court to conclude that Ntlabathi, Londzi, Damba and Mase were guilty.

The case has dragged on for five years, having been postponed 40 times after complaints from the defendants.

Ms Nkonyana lived openly as a lesbian and gay rights campaigners say her killing was motivated by homophobia.
