Sir Elton John has issued a banker with a writ for £700,000 after the man allegedly to failed to pay up after winning a charity date with the star.

Spencer Lodge, of Dubai, won the date with Sir Elton and his partner David Furnish at the singer’s annual White Tie and Tiara Ball, with the money set to go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

It is claimed that despite repeated requests, he has not paid.

The High Court action was issued by the EJAF.

A source close to Sir Elton suggested that although Mr Lodge had signed paperwork, he backed out in “the cold light of day”.

The source told the Daily Mirror: “Both David and Elton, and everyone involved with the EJAF are really angry about this.

“Elton is not personally hounding the man and demanding the cash, but he is fully supportive of the legal proceedings to benefit the charity.”
