Website tracks ‘gay homophobes’

Barely a week seems to go by without a new case of ‘gay homophobia’ – that is, professional homophobes apparently caught in the act they claim to despise.

Now, website Gayhomophobe.com tracks the number of days since the latest scandal.

Top of the list right now is Puerto Rican senator Roberto Arango, who apparently posted photos of his naked bottom on gay iPhone app Grindr.

Mr Arango, who has criticised gay rights, claimed he took the photos to document his “weight loss”. He resigned 11 days ago.

Seventeen days ago, Indiana lawmaker Philip Hinkle admitted setting up a hotel meeting with an 18-year-old man who posted a Craigslist ad for a “sugga daddy”.

Mr Hinkle, who voted against gay marriage, refused to resign but has not explained why he set up the meeting.

While some on the list have now come out out and are speaking up for gay rights, others apparently remain in denial.

In May 2010, US anti-gay campaigner George Rekers resigned from the board of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), after he was photographed returning from holiday with a 20-year-old male escort.

Mr Rekers, who is said to have hired the young man from Rentboy.com, claims he employed him to carry luggage.

Gayhomophobe.com says all proceeds from the site will go to Truth Wins Out, which campaigns against ‘gay cure’ therapy.
