  1. Well then the ex-wife should have the same restrictions, which means no teenaged babysitter to go out with friends on a Friday night.

This is a ridiculous, not just because they are gay but because this ruling is nearly impossible in todays world.

    1. Jock S. Trap 25 Aug 2011, 8:30am

Exactly, the wife should if the ruling isn’t to be viewed as bigotted. Of course that won’t happen because bigotted people tend to think they are superior to anyone else.

  2. This story – Bigotry taking place in Texas. In other news, water is wet. Simple fact, unless you are in a major city (Austin is nice, I hear) then living in any state in the bible belt must be absolutely hideous for GLBTQ people.

    1. Yeah, memorising all those letters must be a pain in the butt for all those GLBTQ’s not to mention the… QPYFTRUALEHGTNHTD community!

      1. Jock S. Trap 25 Aug 2011, 8:31am

No respect for people… what a surprise…. Not!

      2. Jock S. Trap 25 Aug 2011, 8:33am

        Funny isn’t it Keith,

        I condemn hate.
        You condemn love.

Yet it is us you accuse of being immoral. Pot/Kettle anyone? Could you be projecting any more? I doubt it.

      3. Do you find it difficult to remember 5 letters Keith?

        1. Jock S. Trap 25 Aug 2011, 11:40am

          Yes DE, it’s a bit like …. “K – E – no no let me start again K – E – sh!t no… I’ll get it… better make that 2 letters, whats my name again?”

So how he’d cope with anything intelligent such as LGBTQI is anyones guess.

      4. @Keith, when do you sit your GCSE resits?

      5. You are so boring, Keith. Please go away.

  3. I realise this is beside the point, but it’s hard to feel sympathy for a man who sets up home with a new partner, then tries to take the kids off his ex partner.

    1. Why? We don’t know anything about the case.

      1. indeed we don’t know any of the details. All we would have is assumptions and prejudices on the basis of a very brief preamble lacking any relevant detail.

      2. Keith Lynwood 24 Aug 2011, 6:06pm

Tara please re read. There is no allegation of an attempt by the natural father to take the kids off the mother. This is purely referring to his visitation rights and states that he must not leave the kids alone with his new partner as he is a man. Pure bigotry. The judge might as well just add the fact he believes all gays are paedophiles.

    2. This happens every day all over the world. Having a new partner does not make him a bad parent.

Texas-the poster child of ALL that is wrong in America, the land of the free (as long as you are white, male, heterosexual, Christian, and rich-the rest of us, not so much). Texas, a theocracy rivaled only by Iran!

  6. You know what amazes me about America? It will literally fight for the democratic rights and ‘freedom’ of supposedly oppressed people on the world (do I have to provide a list of examples?) and yet be so oppressive of its own ‘free’ citizens! Discuss…

  7. Don’t let them be left with your trusted partner; but, once the girls turn 12 you can marry them of to an old paedophile member of your church flock without a worry.

  8. America is one giant arse….and Texas, the hole….

  9. Only those with low IQ struggle Keith…..

Pain in the butt….no pun intended eh keith….you really do have gay sex on the brain !!

  10. Ok, I’m not defending Texas (I live in California with it’s own share of messes concerning gays), but times are changing…even there. This video surprised me in a couple of ways. It’s a hidden camera setup in a small town Texas restaurant. Actors portray two gay families…one fermale and one male. Watch how ordinary patrons react when the waitress (also an actress) tries to bash the gay parents:

    1. Trouble with the video is that, admittedly based on stereotyping, some of the people defending the lesbian couple were probably gay themselves. That wasn’t as clear in the New York video.

      1. I did notice that, Dave. Still, I thought the overall result as stated towards the end of video (roughly half of the Texas restaurant patrons defending the gay couples as opposed to about a tenth of the New York restaurant patrons) was noteworthy.

  11. And here’s the same setup, done in New York a year earlier:

    1. Yup,seen similar ‘secret’ filming videos on YouTube, called,I think,”What would you do?” They raise some rather pertinant issues.

  12. W.A.S.P.,(White,Anglo-Saxon Protestant),THAT’S what you need to be to have any kind of life in America,or so it seems.Yeah, yeah,I haven’t forgoten,a ‘black’ man is in the White House,& he aint polishing floors! How popular is he now?! Second term of office? I don’t think so.Texas, the Lone Star State, where the men wear stetsons to cover up their pea-sized brains!

This is a disgrace. It is clearly based on his own bigotted homophobia and serves no purpose in any court of law.

I would hope the days of this disgusting attitude are numbers as a more decent morally sound society progresses with this kind of discrimination.

  14. As the article stands the ruling is sexist as well as homophobic.

The implication is that he can leave the cihildren with an unrelated woman but not an unrelated man.

At 58 years old I’ve NEVER seen anything that was worth a SH!T come out of Texas, Bush: What a F@#King Joke. I have more respect for Hitler than any cow screwing a$$ wipe from Texas. We should give the state of Texas back to the wet-backs, they are all living there anyways. And Perry is no better the ” JUDAS ” PERIOD

  16. Art Pearson 25 Aug 2011, 7:52pm

One can only hope that this will be appealed to a higher court. Judges must be held accountable for poor judgements.

Land of the free my arse – I and other gays have more freedom here in Australia!!!!!

We have unregistered cohabitation or de facto couple legal rights at a federal level here in Australia that recognises same sex couples and their children since 1 July 2009. In America you have no unregistered cohabitation or de facto couple rights – you have to marry to get benefits 1,234 benefits in fact!!!! – But at an American federal level DOMA still exists, even when you get legitimately get married in the states of CA (prior to prop 8), NY, CT, MASS, IOWA, NH, VT, DC – even when the Democrats had their chance a couple of years back to repeal this nasty hateful and outdated 1996 law. But then again it was a Democrat called Bill Clinton who signed the DOMA into law anyway.

The American and Australian gay male couple should be kept together and the Australian man should not be deported.

The outdated and hateful laws that ban same sex marriage in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the American federal DOMA are well known to be unconstitutional anyway.

Speaking of Texas, there is still a law on the books (the Penal Code of Texas) that says “homosexual conduct is outlawed and illegal”: – Penalty 500 dollar fine. Even though the Supreme Court invalidated that law way back in 2003 under Lawrence V Texas.

The Texas Legislature has never repealed that law – since the Republicans hold a super-majority and Governorship in Texas anyway.

A bill to repeal that “homosexual conduct law” (HB 345) to reflect the Supreme Court decision – has never ever made it passed Committee.

Gays in America need to arm themselves if Perry becomes president because he will be a Hitler to minorities. Right Wing Christians have already infiltrated your groups and are working to stop gays. Remember the Jews and gays said that Hitler would never go so far to harm them and he did. History can repeat itself, no matter what they say.
