  1. Well done…a beautiful piece of writing and a wonderful and refreshing insight into transgender folks which gay men and women may not usually understand.

  2. Muir Dragonne 24 Aug 2011, 11:47am

Good article. I was hoping his documentary would be on a more “mainstream” (i.e. non-cable) channel though. I was hoping to be able to watch it, but unless it’s on freeview there’s no chance. Still, it will hopefully educate people on what trans* people go through.

    1. I agree. I’d like to watch it too and am disappointed it’s on Discovery Real Time. Maybe it’ll be available to watch online somewhere.

      Good article!

    2. I watched online a few weeks ago. I think someone put it on Dailymotion

  3. Paddyswurds 24 Aug 2011, 12:40pm

This womans lifelong battle to out attention seek her mother is getting boring. Now she want to be called a man altho she clearly is sill a woman and retains all or most of her womanly bits, the bits that matter in any case. Are we to call all women who have double mastectomy surgery for medical reasons , men? The fact that she is reluctant to go all the way clearly indicates she still doesn’t know what she wants and probably never will. All in all a very sad and mixed up woman and does real gender disphoria people no favors with her constant whinging.

    1. Lots of transmen don’t do bottom surgery though- not because they are ‘really’ women. Rather because the surgery is a lot more risky (and ineffectual than MTF surgery). It’s a lot harder to construct an order than it is to remove an organ).

Also I think if he wants to be regarded as a man then people should respect that. It affects absolutely no-one, how he self-identifies and therefore he has to right to do so. And it’s a simple matter of common courtesy to respect someone’s wishes.

I know that if you were to tell someone that you are gay, and they replied ‘Oh no you’re not – you’re just sexually dysfunctional and haven’t met the right woman yet.’ you’d be annoyed.

    2. What harm is it to you to respect another human beings identity?

If someone wants to be referred to using male pronouns even if they haven’t had top surgery or taken T, what difference does it make to you?

If someone told me they weren’t a human being anymore and would like me to refer to them as an acorn because it meant a lot to them and caused them severe distress when people did the opposite, I’d bloody well do it because it’s no skin of my nose is it.

No one changes their gender for attention I suggest if you haven’t already you should watch the documentary with an open mind.

    3. Read the indicates that it’s risky…not because they can’t be bothered or are attention seeking..

I very much doubt people would just attempt to change gender because they’re attention seekers and to intinate otherwise shows a fair degree of ignorance.

    4. edwarddwoodjr 24 Aug 2011, 2:45pm

You all fell into the trap of ‘Paddyswurds’ being the attention seeker.

      1. Paddyswurds 24 Aug 2011, 8:06pm

….how is legitimate comment attention seeking any more than any other conributers comment, including your pathetic offerings, which purpose seems only to criticise other posters

    5. I don’t comment on PinkNews a great deal, but even I can see that paddyswurds is an attention seeking bigot – just ignore the troll, people!

      1. You know it.

    6. Please educate yourself! He would get bottom surgery if good bottom surgery existed, but it doesn’t. Hopefully in the near future they’ll be a breakthrough. But regardless gender is between the ears and sex is betweent he legs; learn the difference.

      1. OrtharRrith 25 Aug 2011, 10:00am

You are wasting your time and energy. Paddyswurd has been told this and more, countless times by many different people and he continues to wear his transphobia proudly on his chest like it’s a badge, and taking every opportunity he can to show it off.
Don’t bother with him, instead educate and enlighten others reading the thread.

      2. Paddyswurds 25 Aug 2011, 10:26am

…so by your twisted reasoning, from now on when someone asks what gender the baby is we should say we dont know becuse its between its ears. What you say may be true in most gender disphoric cases but Chastity Bono is a case apart and what she really needs is a good psychiatrist and has done since she was five. Chastity Bono will never be satisfied and thats the nub of the matter. Attention seeker supreme is not a trait that is endearing in any woman, be she real or manufactured.

  4. I wish him well.

But it has to be said that Chaz Bono owes his entire career to his parents (and in particular his mum(..

Without Cher the public would not know or care about Chaz.

But fair play to him – using his mum’s fame to raise awareness of trans issues.

    1. After being forced out in the mainstream press, Chaz worked as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, wrote several books and articles on coming out, and served as media director for GLAAD. So he has in fact had his own career outside of showbusiness.

      1. And all of this happened – beginning with the outing – because of who his parents are.

He’s had his own career for sure.

But he owes his entire career to the fact that he is the child of Cher.

That’s not meant as an insult to him or to his work. It’s simply an acknowledgement that being the child of Cher has given him a career.

        1. He owes his celebrity to Cher not his career. The two are entirely seperate. Frankly it is insulting to say that after committing yourself to the front line of gay rights for so many years, being constantly attacked, was all handed to you by your parents and you “owe” it all to them. Chaz could have sunk without a trace after the outing, he stepped up and took a leadership role in equality. No one hired him on the basis of a free ticket to a Cher concert…

          1. He owes his celebrity to Cher for sure.

And he owes his career to his celebrity – he would never have gotten his media director job at GLAAD if he was not famous.

Ergo he owes his career to Cher also.

    2. Hello! Being the son of celebrity parents made his struggle much more difficult. He wanted to transition 10 years ago, but feared the publicity that would follow. Transitioning in front of family and friends was hard enough, I can’t imagination having to do it with the whole world watching.

  5. The only offspring of Sonny and Cher, no wonder ‘its’ screwd up in the head.

What do you call it, as rightly its not totally a man or totally a woman, Id call this being an IT.

    1. You call him a “he” and refer to him as a transgendered male, and show some respect.

      1. I hate the use of “It”. This is a human being and deserved to be addressed as he wishes. Courtesy costs nothing but adds so much to everyone life.

      2. Paddyswurds 24 Aug 2011, 7:55pm

….but she is not a transgendered man. She is a woman who has a double mastectomy nothing more, She chickened out on the final step because it held some “risk”. Given Chastitys history we haven’t heard the last of her woes. As one said earlier she does the whole transgendered community no favors whatever and is widely seen as a whinger who has gained some notarity on her mothers and to some extent fathers coattails but hardly celebrity..

        1. Paddyswurds 24 Aug 2011, 8:01pm

        2. @paddyswurds…She ….had a “double mastectomy nothing more”. So according to you having your breasts amputated together with months of steriod treatments and pschological profiling counted is now bid deal? What planet are you on mate? And as for “widely seen as a whinger” – always amused by bigots who present their own false opinions as fact without any evidence. Fighting for equal rights as per his previous paid jobs do not equate to notariety either. Your whole post was just pathetic prejudice parading as facts…

          1. Paddyswurds 24 Aug 2011, 11:28pm

….”So according to you having your breasts amputated together with months of steriod treatments and pschological profiling counted is now bid deal?”
I didnt mean it like that and well you knew that but that wouldn’t suit your agenda. I meant that she had half the required surgery to make her a “man” and stopped at that. I in no way intimated that getting ones boobs cut off was no big deal.
Clearly it is a big deal especially for women who because of disease, require such drastic action. Your ignorant rant at me shows you up rather than me. I stand by my assertion that this woman has from an early age been a whinger of one sort or another and is destined to remain so for as long as Cher is on this planet and quite possibly beyond that. I am not a bigot, just a realist who has to point out the obvious to leftie creeps like you who see the truth as somehow un pc.

          2. edwarddwoodjr 26 Aug 2011, 3:29pm

Couldn’t have said it better Sal. Bigots always present opinions as facts, and simply no truth/proof. Funny how they ramble on about the psychology of another person, when… well…
And yes, he is a transgendered man. Gender reassignment surgery is physical only, and that procedure does not predicate being transgendered.

          3. Paddyswurds 26 Aug 2011, 5:12pm

..yet another dump and run idiot… This trash only seem to crawl out from under the woodpile when this sort of thing is discussed and think they know it all. Grow up creep.

    2. edwarddwoodjr 24 Aug 2011, 5:17pm

Great grammar and typing/spelling skills there Lucas. Speaks volumes as to how your unneeded opinion comes about.

    3. Well how about I just call you an idiot because you can’t respect his identity. Two can play that game.

      1. Paddyswurds 25 Aug 2011, 10:34am

….you can call me anything you like but it won’t change reality for the tragic Chastity Bono. A stone dyke who has her breasts cut off is hardly a man and of that there is ample proof.
You however have no proof of whether or not I am an idiot as you have nothing to go on other than my writing. Seems from that scenario that it is you who is displaying Idiotic traits.

  6. Wow some people really have nothing better to do with their lives than troll comment sections on websites do they? Sad.

I agree with the comment somewhere above that this should be on a mainstream channel like Channel 4, not ‘Discovery Realtime’ which I’ve never heard of.

    Good luck to him.

    1. Paddyswurds 25 Aug 2011, 10:38am

…so don’t troll comment sections on gay websites then. Go out and get your self a job and then the rest of us won’t have to read your inane drivel.

  7. She was quite attractive before she tried to look like a man. Now she looks like a brickie.

    1. You were more attractive before you opened your mouth. Now you’re an ugly bigot.

    2. Paddyswurds 25 Aug 2011, 10:40am

…dont be insulting to brickies. Most or all brickies look like men. Chastity Bono just looks like a stone dyke with a bad headache.

      1. @Paddyswurds…you’re such a hateful presence on these blogs. Where do you get off on calling people “dykes”? Is your day job with the Daily Mail?

        1. Paddyswurds 25 Aug 2011, 6:14pm

…. fyi “stone dyke ” is a recognised descriptive term for a certain type of lesbian and is in no way derogatory. Just because my comments don’t sit well with creeps like you who dump and run on this site doesn’t in any way make me hateful, except to you and frankly, you, to me are an non entity. Now run along back to the kitchen sink and know what your talking about in future.

  8. I thought it was Peter Kaye
