    Congratulations!! WooHoo!!

  2. Congratulations to them both :)

  3. Congratulations to Wright and her new wife,

But again it begs the question.

Why is Pink News reporting this as news, Chely Wright is a complete and utter nobody to the vast majority of this websites readers.

Who decides what is a newsworthy stiory on Pink News.

That person is clearly not very good at their job. It’s blatantly obvious that most people will hear the name Chely Wright and think ‘Who?’

I’m glad I have heard about it. It is relevent and it is happy. I’m not familiar with her but I’m pleased she’s happy and I’m pleased she and her partner are showing the world of bigots that any couple deserve to be happy and celebrate it.
Who cares if people have heard of her or not, it’s happy news.

    2. I’ve heard of her. Her name is frequently mentioned on most of the lesbian entertainment sites I visit. It’s a happy story of a lesbian musician, who is very well known amongst Americans / country music fans / lesbians / any combination of those three, marrying her partner. So, may I ask, why is this news not relevant?

If you are a man (as your username seems to imply, though I’m not 100% sure as the lesbian protagonist in The Well of Loneliness was called Stephen…) you may not have heard of her as you probably don’t go on lesbian entertainment sites. I probably haven’t heard of as many gay male celebs as I have gay female celebs.

I am an avid reader of Pink News, and I often read out the news stories I find “relevant” to my partner. I just said to her, “Chely Wright got married on Saturday” and she instantly knew who I meant, despite the fact that neither of us have ever listened to her music. We also live in the UK. She’s a big lesbian icon.

    3. SteveC, people all over the world and in America read this site too.

It’s news, it’s good news. It also highlights that there are success tories out there and it acts as a beacon to those who are still fighting for marriage equality.

Now, it may not be relevant to YOU – granted. However, I cna assure you it’s relevant to many.

    4. “Why is Pink News reporting this as news, Chely Wright is a complete and utter nobody to the vast majority of this websites readers.”
One of the functions of news reports is to inform: you didn’t know who she is before, now you do. If it’s not of interest to you, why not just click on one of the other items?

      1. Indeed but when instead of reporting on stories of actual relevance to their audience Pink News is simply borrowing / stealing / plagiarising stories from other websites.

As for Chely Wright – she is barely known even in the US.

Stop scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories about non-entities.

    5. SteveC, stop moaning on every story you don’t like. Just set your own website up, or find another. There’s plenty of them.

      1. Everyone’s a critic!

I am from Wasilla, Alaska- Sarah Palin’s hometown. Quite frankly until this story I didn’t know why Wright had stopped being played on the stations here. Now it makes total sense and quite frankly there is cause for activism here but until a story such as this I did not know that.

From what I have see of sites such as PinkNews some of the best articles are the ones about things or people that you don’t already know of. They get you thinking and inspire some people to get more involved. Maybe even get people to advocate as Wright is to gain acceptance rather than “tolerance” like we are trouble making toddlers.

  4. Doesn’t matter who!!! Even if she is a local star from Timbaktu. She is a happy, successful and respective member of GLBT community in committed relationship and this is a good news. More please!!! More!!!

  5. Best wishes to the happy couple.

  6. Congratulations to them both :) I like stories like this shows its not all doom and gloom.

  7. I wonder if anyone reading this story would be able to identify a Chely Wright song (without checking Wikipedia or Google).

    Just saying.

    1. I do, I’ve been buying her albums for 16 years. She’s a very talented woman who has toured extensively for the troops and since coming out has done a lot of good, both in starting and promoting youth group.
And I’m an English country fan
