An Indianapolis politician who has voted against gay marriage allegedly arranged a gay sex session with a teenager and tried to bribe him not to tell anyone.

Republican Phillip Hinkle, 64, reportedly responded to a Craigslist ad looking for a “sugga daddy”.

In response to 18-year-old Kameryn Gibson’s ad, Mr Hinkle apparently said he could not be a permanent sugar daddy but could offer him $140 for “a really good time”.

According to the Indianapolis Star, the politician wrote from his publicly-listed personal email address: “Cannot be a long time sugar daddy, but can for tonight. Would you be interested in keeping me company for a while tonight?’

The email offers “to make it worth [your] while” in cash, and adds: “I am an in shape married professional, 5’8″, fit 170 lbs, and love getting and staying naked.”

Mr Gibson told the newspaper that the pair met at the JW Marriott Hotel on Saturday evening but he wanted to leave when the older man revealed he was a state lawmaker.

He said that Mr Hinkle refused to let him leave and told him: “You need to do this, because I came and got you, and I’m not taking you back until we do what we need to do.”

He then went to the bathroom and called his sister Megan Gibson. When the politician refused again to let him leave, he asked his sister to come to the hotel.

In the meantime, Mr Gibson said, Mr Hinkle exposed himself and grabbed the younger man’s buttocks.

When Ms Gibson arrived and threatened to call police and the media, the older man gave them his BlackBerry, iPad and $100 cash to keep them quiet, they said.

As the siblings drove home, Ms Gibson said they received a call from Mr Hinkle’s wife on the BlackBerry.

She told the newspaper: “I was like, ‘Your husband is gay’. And then she was like, ‘You have the wrong person.’ ”

Ms Gibson said she then read out the lawmaker’s email address and claimed that after a pause, Mrs Hinkle asked them not to go to police.

She said that after showing the emails to one of Mr Hinkle’s family members back at the hotel, she received another call from the politician’s wife offering them $10,000 not to go to the police.

A spokesman for Mr Hinkle said: “Representative Hinkle is aware of the inquiries by The Indianapolis Star and we are investigating the matter at this time. We request that everyone respect the privacy of the family at this time.”
