Gay football fans have voted Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard the hottest premiership player.

The Gaydar survey of 4,276 men put Chelsea’s Fernando Torres in second place, while teammate Frank Lampard was third.

Peter Crouch bagged just two per cent of the vote, coming in at the bottom of the list.

Users were asked to rate players in a variety of categories. Wayne Rooney’s recent hair transplant failed to impress, and the Manchester United player got almost 50 per cent of the votes in for ‘worst haircut’.

Despite their enthusiasm for the players, 19 per cent of fans said they would not go to a premiership match for fear of homophobia.

Simon Johnson, product manager for Gaydar. co.uk, said: “It is not surprising only a small number of gay men go to football matches.

“What is shocking is so many are not going because they are worried about their safety due to homophobia within the sport.”
