The BBC is piloting a new sitcom revolving around a middle-aged gay couple.

The show, titled George And Bernard Shaw, will star My Family actor Robert Linsday and Richard Griffiths, if commissioned.

Written by John Finnemore, the creator of Radio 4’s Cabin Pressure, it has been described as a “quirky and warm comedy”.

A BBC spokeswoman said the pilot would not be aired and that the show is one of a number of projects in development.
