The creators of Spider-Man have revealed a new incarnation of the superhero as a black-Latino teenager.

Marvel Comics has announced that the new character, Miles Morales, is to take over after the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, was killed off in June by the Green Goblin.

This is the first time the man under the mask has not been white and Marvel Comics said he will be “reflective of our culture and diversity”.

Unveiling Miles Morales, the artist who created him also said that Spider-Man could one day be gay.

Sara Pichelli told AP: “Maybe sooner or later a black or gay – or both – hero will be considered something absolutely normal.”
