This is not a surprise. Michigan is a “drunk on religion”, very conservative backward state akin to some of the “bible belt” states in the southern USA.All three branches of government are controlled by the Republican Party and its “damn nigh” impossible for an LGBT person to obtain justice in the state. The legislature will not even pass and enact anti-bullying legislation to protect “any” school children because they think its really aimed at protecting LGBT children and part of the homosexual agenda.
You’re right Jen. I left Michigan last September after living there my whole life of 43 years. I have read so many things since then, that “good riddance” has become my mantra.
I’m sad to say my partner and I are moving there. Since our decision to move there (it’s pretty much a must for us), I have not read one good piece of news from there. And to top it off, I just found out that it was one of the states, where Lawrence v Texas struck down sodomy laws, not its own court and not its own legislature. Pretty depressing.
Hamish – you’ve hit the nail on the head. The people who will suffer in this will be the children denied access to one of their parents. It is sad that some people can’t put the love of their children ahead of their hatred of an ex-partner.

Hopefully she will keep on fighting. Kids should not be used as a way of punishing the ex partner!
