  1. Christian mothers and fathers are throwing their young children out onto the streets where they will go hungry and starve or die from being abused by having to live in the cold and rain or summer heat. How heartless Christians have become to turn their backs on their own flesh and blood. These are children, young children who have done nothing wrong. Just because God created their children gay is no reason to kick them out like trash and disown them. How mean and hateful and criminal the Christians have become that they would treat their own daughters and sons this way just because they are gay. Some body needs to stop this madness where the Christian Church is preaching so much hate that they are now destroying the many lives of children, never have we seen in history such abuse of children by the Christian religion. It was bad enough that the Catholic Church has it’s pedophiles raping the children but now to deny their own children a roof and food in the name of Jesus is insane.

    1. Mary – what you say may well be true, but the report does not say they are children of Christian families. For those that are, there are Christians like me who are pro LGBT. However, our voice is not heard much in the media. It is not because we are speechless – more of us need to speak out against prejudice. There is still too much in our society.

If you took the word “Christian” out of your statement and use the word “people” instead, you would have a very valid remark. I beg to differ with you in saying that only Christians toss their children out. This type of thing goes on in every religion. I am not going to pretend I have any figures, because I don’t. Walking down almost any busy street in the inner core of any city is all you have to do. You will find many gay teens who were thrown out by their Muslim parents, or by their Jewish parents, etc.

This is not a Christian problem, it’s a human problem.

      1. Yes you are right it is a human problem. Humans can often find excuses within a religious faith to hold their prejudices, and because it is a faith, it is hard to reason with them sometimes, even when the problem comes as close to home as their own children. The facts speak for themselves. I admit to being just as guilty as any of failing to speak out with a loud enough voice. For years people like me have accepted the status quo. We should not have done.

      2. Whether or not they come from “Christian” families, it’s the overall christian view/distain of homosexuals in the U.S. that is most definately at the core of the problem. In some other countries, it may be other religions…but here it’s the fault of this so called “christian culture”. If you are a “Christian ” and this offends you, I am sorry…but it’s the truth. Do what you can from within to change it…all I ever get from “Christians” is the same old “love the sinner, hate the sin” crap. That line is tired and old, and quite frankly my love is not a sin….

Insane is you, Mary, because real Christian families never has degenerated children.Stop spread your insanity and pretend to be normal, being lesbian degenerate.

  2. SFMuscular 22 Jul 2011, 4:48pm

    I’m speechless.

    1. Rich (original) 24 Jul 2011, 12:42am

      That’s good. Keep silence forever!

  3. That’s a misleading headline. Surely it is “One in four homeless teens is Massachusetts is gay”?

    1. David Gervais 22 Jul 2011, 11:36pm

I interpret the story to mean that too.

      1. John from MN 23 Jul 2011, 4:01pm

No. In the United States as a whole 26% of gay kids who came out before they were 18 got kicked out of their homes in 2008-2009. It’s estimated that just under half, 45%, of all homeless youth in the country are gay. It’s insane, evil, and very few people outside of social work seem to know about it. LGBT homeless shelters have been overflowing in every major city for years. Here in Minneapolis they had to convert this big LGBT youth recreation center into dorms for LGBT homeless kids a few years back. I have a friend who works there and a friend who is a LGBT social worker, and both say they have to turn kids away all the time from lack of space. We also have less gay homeless then the majority of big cities. The problem has actually gotten better since the 80s and 90s. From age 14 to about 19 I had 5 friends get kicked out of their homes. 2 were dead within 5 years.

        1. If you believe that (26% of gay kids blah blah blah), I have some lovely ocean-front property in Oklahoma to sell you. I don’t believe that it was close to that when I was a teen (80s). No way today.

      2. John from MN 23 Jul 2011, 4:04pm

Youth prison and detention centers are also a pretty popular place to stick homeless kids in our country these days, too. The US might be one of the better places to grow up gay in the world, but it is an awful, awful place to grow up gay in the industrialized world.

        1. John from MN 23 Jul 2011, 4:22pm

err, that was supposed to say gay kids, but we do it to our homeless kids as well. Gay + homeless get a double whammy in terms of arrests, convictions, and sentencing. They are well above the norm in numbers and harshness of sentencing.

    2. Yes, the headline is incorrect. ‘25% of homeless teens are gay’

It’s pretty much in line with what I’ve heard over the years from various studies.

A sad commentary on the American ‘family’

  4. If this is true it’s very sad.

These teenagers need our help. All homeless people need our help. It’s outrageous.

  5. David Gervais 22 Jul 2011, 11:41pm

In Canada, similar studies in Toronto and Vancouver have come up with similar results. I recall stories from a couple of years ago about a shelter in Bronx (NY) in danger of losing their funding having similar statistics in their appeal for support.

  6. We see these stats on gay homelessness over and over, and each time we wring our hands and do nothing. I’m as guilty as everyone else. I don’t know what to do. I’ve talked to a lot of these kids, and most are homeless by choice because their home life is so intolerable that they’d rather be on the streets. It isn’t a case of parents throwing these kids out. They merely torture them psychologically until they leave of their own accord. Tragic.

  7. Have you been reading the the comments about people waking up and seeing the churches running around calling themselves christian, as the devils they are, none of the but a few, never help in chariteies, never ever do anything kind or nice for all others, these, peole breed and teach and racims and abuse , the church of god is the main church of abuser of women and children, lies of evil god that is really man made man out of control and wicked like david karesh, telling parents who are fools enough to listen to disown thehire children and if they are not the gender or color that this evil god wants them to be, their god is a real sick real man who is an occult leader and a satan worshiper, they dont walk in real love and charity, which is what real christianity is, people had better start waking up to the monsters posing as christian, in theis day and time everyone say they are a christain and ninine nine arle all liars, the hate and terrorize, they are evil murders rappestd, wicked

  8. Marc Adams 23 Jul 2011, 8:16am

This is why HeartStrong’s Youth Empowerment Project exists!

    1. Yes, and why in the UK we have organisations like the Albert Kennedy Trust.

  9. Rich (original) 24 Jul 2011, 12:37am

Only degenerates became homeless in UK… Would be better if they die and be burden to Mankind.

    1. Rich (original) 24 Jul 2011, 12:45am

Correction: Only degenerates became homeless in UK… Would be better if they die and NOT be burden to Mankind.

    2. Rich (original) 24 Jul 2011, 12:49am

I think all homeless kids are production of degenerated humanoids…. They should die and never be supported and cared. They are unworthy elements of nature. That’s all….

      1. dude, honestly….chill pill look it up…

        1. You are disgusting..I hope you rot from the inside out you piece of hateful filth Rich

          1. Thank you for your hate Rich (original)

    3. Commander Thor 24 Jul 2011, 1:56pm

What a happy person you must be, Rich.

      1. Happy or not, he/she is certainly a repellent one. There must be rattle snakes with more human empathy.

      2. Rich (original) 25 Jul 2011, 12:31pm

I am happy, that’s for sure!

        1. Thanks for your admission that you are gay/happy. We’d known it all along. Most of the vehement trolls on this site are self-loathing, repressed marginal personalities – and you’ve got that in spades with brass knobs on.

  10. Get a life rich and you are the only degenate etc

  11. This is a seriously not good situation and must be addressed (sorted out) immediately. It is totally unacceptable. Why is it like that? What are the stats for other states?
