    1. I liked him much better before they sent him off to Juvie for 6 months and replaced his actor.

No doubt Brian Sewell will be shocked and appalled.

Will the viewers even muster mild surprise, though? EE has been laying this on with a trowel since the hapless Ben was a tween.

    1. I remember him telling his dad he had a crush on someone in his class called Ashley. Dad asked if Ashley was a boy or a girl, to which Ben replied “a girl, of course.”

This appears to be a natural progression of the character as opposed to being yet another tedious PC box ticking exercise. Indeed, if handled delicately and sensitively, this plot line could help younger viewers of EastEnders who are in a similar predicament. Well done to the EE scriptwriters for weaving this idea into the script – a welcome reprieve from the utter tedium of the Christian/Syed set-up – and showing Phil Collinson at Coronation Street how interesting gay characters should emerge and progress naturally instead of the dull, bland assortment they have shoe-horned into their soap.

Yes Dave, who did you think I was referring to? Dot Branning?

    2. Tut. Boys boys boys, do either of you actually think the producers/writers of Eastenders give a fiddler’s f–k if this story will help younger viewers? Its all about the headlines and controversy guys. It’ll boil down to scenes with Phil Mitchell punching a wall, close ups of him sweating profusely and then thumping someone who calls his son a ‘poof’. Fireworks and fisticuffs are about the only language the people behind Eastenders understand.

  6. Never really watched Eastenders, but might tune in to see how they handle this and how it plays out.

  9. He was always going to be gay wasn’t he? Before he got shiped of to Juvie and changed actor he was into show tunes and tap dancing (I personally don’t mean to stereotype – i just mean that they already were)

They had better hurry up with the “GAY KISS” before the government succeed in moving such activity to post water shed .

ok they will get two- three months (xmas max) out of this and then either a)kill him B) have him turn psycho c) have him wake up and forget hes gay one morning. Does anyone else resent being soap fodder?

      What gives you that impression?

While the characters aren’t always brilliant (nothing is in Eastenders, consistently), Christian and Syed’s relationship has been treated very well within the show.
