  1. Meet the old bigot by all means.

But use the meeting as a way of telling him face to face that as soon as he starts lecturing or condemning gay people or women or single parents or divorce, or atheism, that he can expect swift and vocal condemnation for his cult’s greed and bigotry.

  2. One day, Bishops from all Christian denominations will be leafletting single mothers and gays for attendance… because they’ll be under the mistaken belief that only gays and single mothers are gullible enough to believe their controlling, badly-written shyte, after everyone else has deserted and the pews are empty.

  3. “The church is not a moral institution that goes around pointing its finger at people.”

Oh really? What a joke! Yeah, right…like saying same-sex marriage will herald polygamy and incest, bestiality. If anything, his cult is morally bankrupt given its almost two millenia old tradition of paedophilia, pederasty, ephebophilia and misogyny.

  4. Archbishop-elect Rainer Maria said,

“The church is not a moral institution that goes around pointing its finger at people.”

Really! Has he told this news to Pope Ratzinger yet?

Apparently I now have to put a disclaimer to say that I do not mean all religious people.

(Although there are rather too many of them).

Was wondering what the problem was, but apparently he gave an interview to Der Spiegel in April when he said we were against the “order of creation”.

Whereas suppressing your sexual urges, gay or straight, for a lifetime, is obviously a natural thing to do.

    1. The possibility they’re hurling bloody great boulders around a fragile glass edifice doesn’t seem to occur to them, does it?

I’m not sure irony is big in Germany.

        1. Strictly to be fair, I don’t think this irony bypass is restricted to German Catholics.

  7. As horrible as the Catholic Church is, and sometimes it can be particularly horrible, it’s far more sane, generally, than the evangelical protestant Christians and Sunni and Shiite Muslims, who take the word crackpot to a new level.

    1. You forgot the Wahhabis, possibly the most cracked of pots.
      .
I don’t think there’s anything particularly sane about avowedly celibate men dictating on matters of family relationships and sex. Bonkers though many if not most evangelical types are, it could be said they’re likelier to practise what they preach (except when they’re employing male prostitutes of course).

  8. I’m surprised that Pink News thinks it worth reporting such arrant nonsense.

  9. “I have respect and esteem for all people, independent of heritage, skin colour and individual nature. I am open to all without reservations.”

By definition, the man’s a heretic.

    1. Heh – good one.

  10. How do you solve a problem like [Rainer] Maria?
    .
    Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  11. SamB….do you really believe it’s less malevolent? It objects to same-sex marriage saying it will bring about the destruction of marriage, society and worse, herald polygamy, bestiality and incest. If that’s not taking religion to a crackpot level, I don’t know what is. Spewing such absurd claims incites homophobia and violence towards LGBT people in our schools, in our streets, everywhere. Words have consequences.
