Two men were attacked and robbed in Spring Gardens, Vauxhall, after London Pride.

The men, aged 25 and 33, were returning home from a night out at around 1.40am Sunday July 4th when they were set upon by a gang of between eight and ten black males.

The victims were knocked to the ground before they were punched and kicked. The attackers, some of whom were on bicycles, escaped with their coats and bags.

Both men were hurt and the younger man has been treated in hospital for severe facial injuries.

Police say there is no evidence to suggest the attack was motivated by homophobia as the gang did not shout anti-gay abuse. However, the area is a popular gay nightspot.

The Royal Vauxhall Tavern and two other gay venues back on to Spring Gardens and police believe smokers outside the bars may have seen or heard something.
