i love Joe to bits, and he’s being brilliant on the show- but “brave” bit too much, he was kind of forced out after doing the whole “i like girls really” bit first. I doubt any of that was his decision, but it annoyed me at the time. Fresh start deserved i think though, hes very young and simon cowell is very horrid.

Yeah – he’s VERY young – I don’t think anyone should be berated for being in the closet when they don’t really know themselves.
Bless him – and he’s STILL the youngest out famous person we have isn’t he? (its very easy to forget how young people are when we see them on TV every Saturday night)

      1. It’s not really an option to go back in once you’ve come out, although I think the untalented Tom Robinson did something like that, never quite understood that but it’s of little consequence.

Well done Andy, I know it ain’t easy to come out for many of us until you are ready. But worse if you are outed is a bummer,

  3. Had it not been for the Twitter hacking, he would have never come out. But who cares? The positive effect on people of his age group should be the same, bravery or no bravery. His album still flopped though.

    1. How he handled his being out in the weeks and months after the twitter revelations was demonstrative of a maturity beyond his years – whilst maintaining that innocent look and appeal that he has.
His album did flop. He is doing very well in Popstar to Opera Star. I think as Andy rightly said recently that Joe has a career ahead of him but he may well need to build it back from the bottom

Joe – you are very brave!
I’m just so sorry that you were outed before a time of your choice.

  5. I love andy bell. he was one of the brave gay popstars who had the guts to be open in the 80’s about his sexuality – when other gay popstars were off to hampstead heath cruising and pretending to go out with girls (not mentioning any names george michael). cant believe joe had to be dragged out of the closet thirty years later. but good on him. I’m sure he’ll bring an opera album out for the grandmas to tap their feet to whilst they eat cake in the old folks homes. I like Joe, but does he have sex?

    1. @Eddy two

Wow a post that I entirely agree with you!
Andy Bell was brave and courageous in the 1980s and his honesty and integrity are clear to all who have followed (and do follow) his career.
I’m pretty sure Joe will bring out an opera (and maybe another pop) album that will appeal to grannies, housewives and others (depending on how good it is!)
I like Joe too – but he does have a whiter than white persona and I can’t quite imagine him having sex – or at least I imagine it would be uneasy. I’m sure we all have friends we just can’t imagine having sex – and Joe reminds me of one of those people.
I like him though and hope he has a very successful career.

  6. Joe was the best singer on Popstar to Operastar last night in my opinion. Last week I thought Claire Richards had the edge.

Joe, as I said to Andy who pointed this out to me, well done the media are the pits. I wish you the best of luck. I would have deny it even lied until it was the right time for me. xxx

He is a nice looking boy, and that a shame that he is a homosexual degenerate…. I feel sorry for his parents….

    1. Rich's Dirty Mind 27 Jun 2011, 11:30pm

Aaaw that is soooo cute, you fancy Joe. He’s a little out of your league tho matey, but we do need wank fantasies I suppose. God you’re such a dog Rich! Ach well, you’ll get a Mr Right one day.

  9. Oh,ffs,if one more minor sodding celebrity is hailed as ‘brave’ for coming out/being outed I will spit up a lung! It’d be more of an eye-opener if some ‘bright young thing’ outed him/herself as straight.THAT’D cause apoplexy in media-land! Can this McElderry do what he’s paid handsomely to do? He can? Good, that’s all that’s required.Where said kid wants to shove his knob should be absolutely no-one elses business!

  10. Catch Joe at Pride Torbay the weekend after he wins on Saturday 30th July. Tickets available from
