3:30 PM — After signing the long awaited legislation to allow gay marriage in New York state into law, Governor Andrew Cuomo addressed reporters and said that New York has regained its reputation as a "beacon for social justice."

1:47 PM — A British gay policeman was savagely attacked in a homophobic incident in Slovenia it has been reported. Oliver McNally was in the capital Ljubljana with straight friends on a stag party but fell out with anti-gay revellers in a nightclub after what has only been described as an 'encounter' who later attacked him with metal police-style batons.

9:13 AM — Late on Friday evening, New York became the sixth US state to legalise gay marriage. After days of negotiation over protections for religious groups, senators voted 33-29 to pass the bill.
