  1. So this raving bigot has had ‘diversity training’ & has apologised.Big whoopee-doo! At the very least he should’ve been named & shamed. This ‘man’ is now simply going to know when to keep his vile mouth shut,oh & to make sure the inter-com’ isn’t switched on should he wish to spew his homophobic venom again. And shame on Southwest Airlines for thinking it’s done enough, because it seriously has not.The only way to deal with this kind of bigot is to fire him, having fined him say a year’s salary first!

This from a guy who spends most of his working life in a cabin known as “the cock pit”.
If he didn’t want to work with gays he shouldn’t apply for a job in a working environment named after a gay sauna!

“bigotry is unacceptable on the ground and at 30,000 feet” . What a great line.

Frankly I don’t care what he says in private so long as he can land the plane, but he obviously needed diversity training to get on better with his staff.

Well, as far as I understand from aircraft crash documentaries – any conversation that is not explicitly to do with the flight (and flying the aircraft) is banned under airline rules. This is a safety rule. Therefore, not only was there bigotry – bad enough – , under the airlines own rules, the flight was potentially less safe!

That’s a long silence if they’re on autopilot for 10 hours.

        1. You’re only under sterile cockpit under 10k feet. Above that you’re free to do whatever you want (within reason of course!). The problem with a sticky PTT button has caught many pilots out unawares, but it doesn’t usually result in a rant and rave with the dummy flying out of the pram being broadcast to all stations on that frequency!

  5. He frankly sounds a bit of a nutter. I’m not sure I’d feel safe in a ‘plane he was flying.

    1. I think you hit the nail on the head there. Anyone with that much rabid hatred for others isn’t my choice for someone charged with the care of hundreds of people’s lives.

I’m worried enough with the ranting of the average taxi driver as he weaves his way through the traffic… I don’t fancy being a passenger in a jet flown by this nutcase!

it would have been ridiculous if he had been dismissed. It was an inadvertently broadcasted bit of bigoted banter of the sort that goes on all the time between work colleagues, even gay colleagues. It would have been deplorable if he had lost his career over it notwithstanding the humiliation he has brought upon himself.

    1. Humiliation?? No one knows his name! So what if he lost his job, opinions have consequences. So sick of this “free speech” and “everyone’s opinion is valid” bs. Free speech means the government can’t stop you from speaking your mind, not that a company can’t fire you for spewing hatred – especially when your hatred is aimed towards a large percentage of their employees!

  9. There is no report from any one who has ever worked with him of discriminatory behaviour or personal abuse. (even those he professed to hate). herefore I think the sentence is alright. Otherwise he would have been punished for the whe feels, not his behaviour, which is never a good thing.

  10. He was moaning about the number of gay cabin crew and the ‘grannies’ only because it meant there was a lack of shaggable female flight attendants. Storm in a teacup.
