  1. Oh catholic church, you are so funny. You never seem to run out of ways to make yourself look like pathetic, ignorant, hateful douchebags. Well done for the young folks at the school giving them a lesson in accepting and welcoming diversity. (And hey! I got through a whole comment on the catholic church without mentioning child abuse and the high level conspiracy that drove it and….darn….)

    1. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:22am

the kids should all wear rainbow panties. they could have lots of fun, str8 and gay when the teach wasn’t looking. reminds me of my youth.

  2. the local Catholic District School Board chair Alice Anne LeMay told Xtra then that the board “doesn’t allow N@zi groups either. Gay-straight alliances are banned because they are not within the teachings of the Catholic Church”.
Oh, great comparison, thanks for that Ms LeMay.
Whatever happened to ‘Love thy neighbour’? Too Christian a principle, perhaps.

    1. Damn’ formatting …

      1. Presumably N@zism DOES fall within the teaching of the Catholic church, that’s why they don’t allow groups who are against it.
Well done to all the kids for their ingenuity in making the cupcakes to beat the rainbow ban.

        1. DJ Sheepiesheep 11 Jun 2011, 12:25am

Well, well, well, how quickly the catholic church forgets……..ratzenbuger, the current pope was a member of the hitler youth. FTP

          1. Observeiamjosh 11 Jun 2011, 10:14pm

Following his 14th birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was conscripted into the Hitler Youth – as membership was required by law for all 14-year-old German boys after December 1939 – but was an unenthusiastic member who refused to attend meetings, according to his brother

      2. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:19am

Hitler was a catholic who has not yet been excommunicated despite 55 million murdered.

Pope R@TZInger in 2009 UNexcommunicated Bishop williamson, who is a holocaust denier.

And it was the christ killer and blood libel statements from the church that gave the world the hatred of the Jews.

A hatred Hitler leveraged to gain power.

If the was a god, the vatican would long ago have been swallowed up into the guts of Vesuvius II

tjhe whole Son of god BS is historical – Alexander the great (mass murderer was pulled out of the forehead of the God zeus long before jesus time

And the son of god is an old Jewish construct that refers to people who are godly in dealing with others.

Oh, what a tangled web the christians weave, when they practice to deceive.

If you tell a lie often enough and outrageous enough, it will be seen as the truth. Hitlers lesson from his church.

    2. Ward and George in Hawaii 13 Jun 2011, 7:33pm

For that matter, what happened to “the rainbow sign” offered to Noah in the great book of runes and riddles?

      1. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:13am

ratzi was an unenthusiastic supporter of the german monstrostiy per his brother –

His brother, georg, a high church official, has been found to have abetted the endless hiding of the molestation.

It becomes like genetic when enough poison is one ones mind

  3. Don’t the Catholics read their bible?! In Genesis 19:13 it says that God has “set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

    1. friday jones 11 Jun 2011, 1:24am

You beat me to it. Weird that they are banning a symbol that is the sign of God’s first Covenant with Man.

  4. Great young people. I hope they soon grow up to repudiate their nasty, slanderous, repressive, irrational church. Given the object lessons they are getting from it, it may not be long.

    1. you’re right… they have learned a lesson here.. and we haven’t heard the last of it..

  5. Jock S. Trap 10 Jun 2011, 3:10pm

Disgraceful but heyho Catholics yet again.
Dunno about not allowing N@zi groups very often I think these religions are the modern day N@zis.

Good on the Leanne Iskander for finding a way to get the Rainbow out their.

Just goes to show that yet again it’s not the children that have a problem.
Yet again these Catholics fail to acting in the interests of the children.
Just their own small petty minds.

The children are quite happy to defy the Catholics on this, what does this tell the homophobic bigots?

It’s seems the only hell is the one religions create for all around them.

  6. Headline from Towleroad – (Mississauga is a Toronto suburb)
Catholic High School Bars Lesbian Comic from Anti-Bullying Event Because of Her ‘Affiliation with Gay Marriage’

  7. what a surprise, another story about bigoted catholics.

  8. “Although the pupils raised $200 from their cake sale, they were banned from giving the money to an LGBT charity. Instead, Leanne said they were told to donate the funds to a Catholic homeless shelter.”

That doesn’t sound fair to me.. the people who donated the money did so to promote an LGBT Charity….

I would call that a diversion of funds ..

    1. It is outrageous but then the church has always used public donations in a questionable way. Sending out missionaries to Africa on the donations and goodwill of the public, the missionaries then converting what were perceived as heatens to the Christian faith in exchange for food, medical attention etc. So much for altruism towards those in need, it all comes at a price.

      1. If the parents of the kids who made the cakes and organized the sale of them do not object to this ‘manhandling’, then they are as much bigoted as the Catholic clergy and Catholic teaching staff.

      2. To be fair CMYB, it wasnt just the church who went out to develop the Empire – it was a cultural issue that transcended beyond religion into all of society – so blaming religion of any sort on Empire building etc is inaccurate

        1. I think CMYB is talking about a whole different type of empire-building…

    2. The Catholic homeless shelter will throw you out if you are found to be gay.

    3. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:29am

the church is bankrupt from the endless molestation of children and the assocaited lawsuits.

In the USA, CArdinal Dolan of NYC came from Milwaukee where the church was bankrupted as I mentioned.

And they are talking about him as the next pope.

Of course, remember that the USA is the nexus of the marriage battle.

they know that if the USA goes for marriage for gays, the whole world except the Islamics will follow.

And the vatican in time will become a museum to teach future generations about hate in the name of God.

  9. I agree entirely with Jonpol, this is a diversion of funds. People gave this money expecting it to go to a LGBT charity and instead the school made the kids give to a homeless charity. Is this even legal?

    1. Out of principal I would be making a stand and be demanding my money back! The misappropriation of funds for other uses is an abuse of people’s trust to donate to a worthwhile cause. The homeless shelter is worthwhile… but not the one people chose. Parents with any conscience must now question if they want their children to have their values challenged by the outdated concept of bigoted religious teaching. Fortunately there are many viable school options in the Peel/Mississauga school district.

    2. To add insult to injury this is a government funded Catholic school… and this kind of misappropriation of Canadian taxes will continue until the word ‘god’ is removed from the pre-amble of the Canadian Constitution… so that the separation of state and church will become a reality.

      1. “To add insult to injury this is a government funded Catholic school…”
        This is outrageous
Our Lady would be furious, I ‘m sure

        1. The design and funding of the Catholic school system in Ontario (Canada’s largest province) is a throw back to a different time. To date no government has had to political will to dismantle this archaic system – which would require a federal constitutional amendment (not a simple thing to do). So every year or so a situation like this happens – when public policy runs up against Catholic dogma. Unfortunately with a flagging economy, people (and thus politicians) are more concerned with jobs/healthcare.

          1. Right… until the ‘supremacy of God’ phrase is removed from the Canadian Constitution, we are heading for social problems the likes of which we have never seen.

With the arrival of new ethnic groups in Canada, the word ‘God’ can and does have a different meaning for different religions. That is something that never crossed the minds of the Fathers of Confederation, I suppose, because it was understood that there was only one god… er… the christian one..

Talk about a ‘throw back to a different time’, eh Ivan.. :(

  10. martyn notman 10 Jun 2011, 4:16pm

surprised they dont allow kids n@zi groups…wasnt the pope quite keen on these at one point?

  11. Another Hannah 10 Jun 2011, 4:22pm

Muslims and Catholics again? These two religions are going to end up being regarded the way the deserve, and with many enemies if they don’t watch it. Nothing in the bible to justify what they’re doing, and much to tell them not to – they are in the end just plain evil.

  12. Once again, I refused to be moralised to by the institutions of the catholic church until it has gone 50 years without raping a child.

  13. The Catholic Church has destroyed so many lives with their bigotted, narrow minded, abusive attitude towards many people. I still don’t understand why parents allow their children to attend these cess pits of bigotry and hatred.

  14. Sad… Hopefully there will always be Rainbows in the sky above these schools, mother natures is one force that can’t be controlled. The most unfortunate implication of the ban is it will lead to a new generation of innocent children questioning why rainbows are bad when they proudly show their kindergarten artwork to teachers who will discourage them for their innocent and unprejudiced artistry for portraying a thing of natural beauty. May rainbow colored cats, dogs, people and houses, cars and “cup cakes” become rainbow supremacy.

  15. The Roman Catholic Church is dying and soon, very soon, it will be a shadow of its former self. It is interesting how the young people are reaching out but their ‘teachers et al’ are stopping the work of God namely love. Well done to all the young people who took part and the clever idea of the cup cakes.

  16. Don Harrison 10 Jun 2011, 8:43pm

The Roman Catholics are digging a grave for themselves.

    1. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:32am

I will pay for a power tools to speed up the process.

though a few trailer trucks loaded with chemicals will do a good job of turning the vatican into a smoking hole.

  17. This situation irks me. As a resident of the Toronto area it sickens me that as a public body we are allowing our public funds which in Canada fund Catholic Schools to be delivered to Bigots on the coat tails of religion exclusion. The Catholic School should be governed by the same laws and rules as that of the Public Board as they are funded by the general public tax dollar. To have a representative of the board suggest that funds raised for one charity diverted to another is plain bigotry.

  18. Mumbo Jumbo 10 Jun 2011, 10:52pm

Well, at least they didn’t rape the kids – so that’s progress I suppose.

  19. michelangelo 11 Jun 2011, 12:07am

Yet again, another piece of irresponsible and poorly researched journalism. Presumably intended to cause hate towards Catholics and people of faith. Even the nicer comments on here refer to “the” Catholics – the definite article being employed as an aggressive / bigoted act (ie. the Jews, the gays, the Roman Catholic – the other / lesser).

THE FACTS: The school was running a Social Justice Awareness Week, in which, amongst other things, it highlighted the evil of homophobia.

From what I have read on other, more reliable websites, the students were asked to come up with a logo that the school could use for its social justice campaign. This logo would encompass its policy of non-discrimination and would represent all groups marginalised groups, inc LGBT groups.

The straight-gay alliance attempted to hijack the event by insisting on using the Pride flag only. The school has no problem with the rainbow flag, but had chosen another logo for its campaign, so asked the gsa to respect this

    1. Well I have done some research too and all the websites I’ve looked at say the same as Pink News. Please give us your sources or we will suspect that you are a lying Catholic with an agenda.

    2. What is noteable about Michelangelo’s posts on this and other issues is that comes in, makes highly contentious statements and then vanishes. If you want us to take you seriously Michelangelo please respond with your sources to the question that has been put to you. If you don’t I think certain conclusions can drawn about you.

      1. Staircase2 13 Jun 2011, 2:44pm

I dont see how he should have to wait around on the off chance that someone else might wish to respond. Its a message board not a chat room.
And actually, while the first paragraph is arguably a tad paranoid the rest is interesting.
He does have a very valid point about the way that most people on the here react to the merest notion of religion. Often reacting more to the fact that the story involves a religious aspect than they do to whatever the story actually details. There are plenty of people on here who have their ow religious baggage to bear and find it hard to comment without displaying it lol (you know who you are!)

        1. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:20am

You speak of religious baggage – you mean like being harrassed, and hated-on by religious bigots who are also hypocrits because they condoned and covered up homosexual abuse of male children as well as heterosexual abuse of female children? “Religious baggage” is a “code word” to imply “atheist” or “religion hater”. Is it any wonder that there are those who feel this way?
I hate the effect of institutionalized religious bigotry, whichever religion it springs from. I also hate the part that established religion has played historically in promoting hatred, bigotry and war – all in the name of their prefered religon. I have no problem with any truly religious person who believes and lives by the founding tenant of all religions – the golden rule. Try it sometime, then we’ll see who has “religious baggage”!

    3. And what’s the deal with the money going to a catholic homeless charity that alone is ridiculous even if the day was against bullying whats bullying got to do with the homelessness.

    4. Staircase2 13 Jun 2011, 2:41pm

So why would they then attempt to stop the students from donating their funds raised to whoever they chose to?

      1. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:22am

You asked the question. Why would they? Two answers – political hypocrisy and homophobia.

    5. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:34am

Michaelangelo – you are 600 years old and we forgive you for your mixed up mind.

we’ll never forgive the church till the day it is dead and burried and all its assets are given to the gays, Jews , and others who is mass murdered over the centuries.

  20. jamestoronto 11 Jun 2011, 1:58am

The leadership and the “old guard” of the RC, Anglican and evangelical churches are certainly doing a great job of driving young people away from them and at the same time the churches are burying themselves in the mire of their own hatred and bigotry. Newfoundland & Labrador got rid of their denominational schools; Québec has done the same. It is time Ontario followed suit.

    1. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:23am

      Here Here!

    1. Jock S. Trap 11 Jun 2011, 8:56am

      Please stop shouting.

      1. She can’t hear you J.S.T her megaphone is turned up too loud, she means well..

    2. billy wingarden 18 Jun 2011, 8:38am

its not the catholic people its the vatican and the hierarchy.

Example about 50% of catholics in the USA support gay marraige, and 75% support civil unions.

the catholic church forbids artificial birth control, yet 94 to 96% of the catholic people use it.

One of these days the good catholic people will wake up and the vatican will be sold for a parking lot.

And once again, we will hear “free at last , free at last, thank God almighty we are free at last of that vile and filthy institution.

  22. johnny33308 11 Jun 2011, 8:53am

Institutional bigotry is still just Bigotry.

  24. Brian Souter – the homophobic Scottish business man who ran the hateful Keep The Clause Campaign has been knighted in today’s birthday honours. Please sign the petition to register your disgust at this.

    1. Signed glady!

    2. Staircase2 13 Jun 2011, 2:39pm

      Off topic though
He’s got his own article already…focus, young Skywalker! FOCUS

  25. You GO, kids. Great idea. What twaddle, banning rainbows! Just a bunch of mean-spirited bigots running that school…oh, hey, no wonder…it’s a Catholic school.

    1. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:25am

To be fair, it could have just as easily been a fundamentalist christian, as well.

  26. No rainbows or fun in this school, now bake your no flavour jesus muffins and get selling.

  27. Catholics are now the Grinches who stole the Rainbows, it looks really bad for them.

  28. Gay Daily Mail Reader 12 Jun 2011, 1:48am

Will they ban pink triangles as well? It is time that all governments disestablished themselves from the church or mosque like in France and Turkey. Although we have a homophobic Pope many Catholics are not anti-gay and many Catholic countries have a good record on gay rights. Argentina for example has made incredible progress since 1982. As for Catholic-bashing I, as a British citizen do not wish to see a return of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

    1. Another Hannah 13 Jun 2011, 12:04am

They need to feel similar results to what they are giving out. why should we treat them as christians when they are clearly not. The only thing I will say is that the organisation that will really suffer from this is the roman catholic church and roman catholics – they encourage wasters and criminals into their ranks and exclude decent, fair kind people. They’re hardly going to thrive!

    2. actually Gay Daily Mail reader I agree with you except for one small point as Britain is a Monarchy and not a republic you are a subject not a citizen

  29. Easy solution: Ban the catholic church

  30. The Catholic church needs to be banned from practicing, they are a failure they have declared war on gays by stating that gays are their enemy. Time to take out the trash.

  31. Homosexuals stole the word GAY, which meant happy, joyfull.

    They stole the rainbow too.

    1. They used the rainbow because in the Bible (Please don’t get into a religious discussion okay?) the rainbow was the way God sealed his promise with Noah not to flood the Earth any more. So it seems to me that faggism is a direct spit upon Christian values and the Christian God.

    2. Children. Every child loves rainbows. Be it to draw one or see one children are naturally drawn to it. So it is not conceivable that they are trying to lure children into being deviants?

Its high-time somethng was taken back.

    1. “Its high-time somethng was taken back.”

LMAO! Are you serious? Take it back? Where, exactly? So, how do gay people “lure children into being deviants”? What a utter moron you must be. Seriously, get your genome checked, its missing a few key chromosomes.
“So it seems to me that faggism is a direct spit upon Christian values and the Christian God.”

And one might say “so it seems to me that religious born stupidity (like yours James) is a direct spit upon Human values and the intelligence of others.”
You’re quite the travesty aren’t you?

    2. “Faggism”? If that’s an example of Christian values in action, it’s well-deserving of being spat upon!

PS: Language changes (“fagg0t” being another example. “Jerk” comes to mind too, don’t ask me why). Get over it.

    3. No gay was a slogan for gay equality it means “good as you”.

      1. Actually Hamish, that’s an urban myth, “gay” as slang goes back further (1930s at least in the sense ‘louche’) than you’d think.

        1. Your arguing against the word of Steven fry but I’ll believe you :-P. So where does gay come from then

          1. It’s complicated (as they say), but the article in Wikipedia is actually as good as any.

    4. Staircase2 13 Jun 2011, 2:37pm

      lol you bloody idiot James
Couldnt be because the rainbow stretches out all the colours and is a symbol of diversity within the gay community then?
      You DOUGHNUT!

    5. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:29am

Just another troll! I don’t remember anyone complaining when homophobes stole the word faggot, do you? Oh never mind, I don’t care what you think troll!

  32. Manquareiel de Caveden 13 Jun 2011, 11:19am

STUDENTS!!! LISTEN!! DO NOT LET ANYONE TAKE THE MONEY YOU WANT TO DONATE TO THE GAR RIGHTS ASSOCIATION. DISOBEY!!! You collected the money, they cannot take it from you or tell you what to do with it! I suggest you really mobilise forces, if you stick together they cannot do anything to you. Remember, your hearts are in the right place! You are trying to do good, but whoever’s running your school is evil! I really hope you follow my advice, do not let them bully you or they will walk all over you. Show them what you’re made of. If necessary seek legal advice. What they are doing is ILLEGAL. DISOBEY!

    1. Manquareiel de Caveden 13 Jun 2011, 11:20am

      *GAY not gar

  33. burningworm 13 Jun 2011, 12:47pm

    A school afraid of peace!

  34. Staircase2 13 Jun 2011, 2:31pm

“Gay-straight alliances are banned because they are not within the teachings of the Catholic Church”.

Nor I assume are cupcakes lol but that don’t stop them being sold.
What a bunch of idiotic wankers. It beggars belief (quite literally) that a bunch of homophobic twats could get the message of God and Jesus so utterly wrong that they think that arrogantly suppressing a student group reaching out in love to members of their own student community is somehow the word of God. The words ‘Jesus’ and ‘Overturning the money changers tables’ spring to mind. What a spiritually dim bunch of people. And if you’re reading this, students – then hang onto the money – don’t give it to the charity of their choice – even if it is a worthy charity. Use the money for your own purposes – it is after all your own collected money. Use it to hire a Pro Bono lawyer to chase their sorry arses thru the courts and WIN.
    God Bless :o)

    1. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:34am

Staircase2: I’m finding myself in strong argreement with you and sympathetic to your arguments. I guess I need to review my opinion of some of your posts. My apologies for former harshness of expressions directed at you.

  35. Left Footers! eh? Silly buggers.

  36. David Myers 14 Jun 2011, 8:03am

Chair Alice Anne LeMay should have said, in order to be accurate, that the church “doesnt allow N@zi groups either . . . any more. The Catholic Church and past Popes, including the current one, have a history of co-operation with the N@zis, including the Popes own involvement in the N@zi youth. Shame!

  37. The Catholic Church is its own worst enemy. Im am increasingly convinced that they will continue to alienate themselves from the rest of the world through their ancient, irrational and ignorant beliefs. Im aware that they still have quite a following right now, but they have lost a lot of power and respect over the last 50 years and I hope that continues until they either have to change, or fade into absolute insignificance. When will they see that this attitude they have DOESNT WORK!! On any level. Especially on a spiritual level. Its unworkable! Religion must stay relevant to the times that its being practised in. They have become slaves to religion. Instead of it working for them, they work for it! And that is totally insane
