  1. Some people can only do negative things, and these nut-jobs are a prime example of that.

  2. They are professional trolls, nothing but grifters who like to hit a hot button subject (dead soldiers, dead Amish children, a 9 year old shot dead in Tucson) to extort air time or raise funds. The game to them is to cause sufficient outrage that someone will either assault them so they can sue, or the authorities will limit their 1st Amendment rights, so they can sue.

It is a huge con, nothing more. A licence to print tax-free “church” money for an extended family of grifters, lunatics and craven fools. And the right thing to do is to strangle them by cutting off the oxygen of publicity.

    1. Hear, hear.

      1. someone should blow up their church with all of the westboro congregation in it. the whole congregation are all fred phelps family members. the demise of that vitriol-spewing, hate-mongering, unchristian-like family would be a welcome end to their hateful ways.

        1. Dan Filson 6 Jun 2011, 3:17pm

Blowing up churches went out with the KKK era which Freedom Riders 50 years ago fought against. It does us no favours to mimic the monsters we oppose.

As much as that sounds a good plan, any bombing or counter attack would cause repercussions and damage against the positive gay movement across the whole world.

The right to life should be unquestionable – even for those with whom we disagree.

          1. Paddyswurds 6 Jun 2011, 9:42pm

….karma will and is getting them one by one. They will be a distant memory in five years time,….. you watch that space…..

    2. They certainly are trolls

They certainly have a right to life – which even though they pursue bigoted hate filled messages, our reacting in a violent or oppressive manner would damage our honour and integrity and the positivity of LGBT rights achievements of the recent past

I’m not sure if they will ever be history, but they certainly will be marginalised even more than they currently are … that has positive and negative implications – it reduces their effectiveness but it also has the potential to make them more desperate ….

They are nothing but a nat trying to nip with nothing to nip with.

    1. Try gnat , but yes I agreeand everyone hates Westboro baptist homophobes.

      1. Jock S. Trap 7 Jun 2011, 11:25am

If I put gnat I would have had to put gnip…

  4. I think they effectively draw attention to the hate and intolerance towards GLBT people in this country, especially from the Religious Right. You can’t buy this kind of publicity so let them have at it. In the end, it helps the cause for GLBT civil rights equality and anti-discrimination laws.

    1. I agree with Nicole H. This is a very small bunch of deeply unpleasant nutters – who despite being around for years do not seem to have grown in numbers at all – and they do an excellent job of exposing intolerance towards us. The religious right would dearly love them to go away so that they can be more subtle and damaging in their hatred.

      1. Ooer missus 6 Jun 2011, 5:02pm

Agreed, plus they are the only hate group that are so ridiculous they actually make me laugh.

  5. Galadriel1010 6 Jun 2011, 4:07pm

Well done to the person who counter-protested. Where was everyone else? It’s about time that they were drowned out everywhere they go.

  6. Why is Pink News giving this cult the oxygen of publicity that it craves?

This cult comprises of 200 people from 1 family who are being abused by the patriarch of the family.

    NOBODY takes them seriously.

The WBC would cease to exist if media outlets like Pink News stopped reporting on them.

    1. Ooer missus 6 Jun 2011, 5:07pm

Agreed, but they are the only hate group that are so ridiculous they actually make me laugh repeatedly.

    2. I enjoy reading about them on pink news. It reminds me how fundamentally crazy christian cults can be, and how stupid some parts of America are. They may be a laughing stock to us, but a lot of people probably silently agree with them in the good ole US of A (and the UK), and I’m not talking about lunatics, I’m talking ex presidents, military generals, billionaire business men.

      1. Paddyswurds 6 Jun 2011, 9:48pm

        @eddy two…
….i agree, and the more vocal they are will serve to show how ridicolous the whole theism fiction is and just like the paedophilia cult in the Catholic church will slowly erode the whole fiction and expose it for what it is…. a hate cult which should be consigned to the dustbin of history!.

        1. Ever a level headed response and bringing in another factor of hatred for those of faith – what I would expect Paddyswurds …

I am vehemntly against bigotry from all sources – but to then say all Christians or people of faith are bigoted because of the likes of WBC or that all Catholics are paedophiles is an extreme and equalled bigoted position

    3. Pink news is the best place to post about them they’re not gonna get any support here and we can keep an eye on them

  7. Anyone else read the story about how the KKK where doing counter protests against the westboro baptist church.

When you are to extremist for the KKK I feel there is no chance for you.

    1. Interesting … cant find this story can you post a reference to it?

  8. Brandt Hardin 6 Jun 2011, 7:59pm

What are Fred Phelps and the WBC afraid of anyhow? Rainbows? Unicorns? A flaming pink queer apocalypse? I attempted to address this with a portrait of the good reverend on my artist’s blog at Drop in and let me know what you think!

  9. Am I the only one to see the WBC as a force for good? They unite conservative American patriots, military families, bikers, ordinary religious folks and now sports enthusiasts– on the side of gays and lesbians. Think about it.

    1. Heh. True.

  10. I’m getting really bored of seeing their names come up on this website. ll the articles are the same except for the location. What i’d like to see are more counter actions against them like what that comedian did by donating money to a gay health organisation. Also am i the only one curious in how the term “fag enabler” came about? I find it a unique choice of words and i almost like the phrase.
