Surrey newspaper goes pink to celebrate gay award
The Surrey Comet turned its masthead pink last week to celebrate winning an award from a local gay and lesbian group.
The newspaper won a ‘Heart of Equality’ award from the charity Gay Surrey last Tuesday, which was the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).
Assistant editor Julia Kennard told Holdthefrontpage.co.uk: “The Surrey Comet prides itself on being at the heart of the community.
“Our reporters are passionate about covering a diverse range of issues and we strive to ensure we are always fair and impartial.
“We are proud to have won a Gay Surrey Heart of Equality award and in celebration we have turned our current issue pink.
“We look forward to working with the gay community, and the wealth of other diverse groups living in Surrey, to represent and voice the key issues affecting them in the future.”
Gino Meriano, the chairman of Gay Surrey, said: “The Surrey Comet continues to impress with its proactive journalism.
“The reporters are always there to listen to both sides of the coin and while they always deliver news impartially, their support of the charity is unwavering and I am eternally grateful to them for that.”
